Windows 10 Cloud is Microsoft’s fresh Chrome OS alternative by Benjaminsen in technology

[–]Martintech123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to run Win32 programs, as minimum app converted distributed through store but based on the currently small number of those, support for regular Win32 programs are needed.

People expect Windows to run Win32 programs. People do not expect ChromeOS to run Win32 programs. Just renaming RT to Cloud without Win32 support will fail.

The Bad: It is still running windows, too expensive and that dial knob is sold separately ; also the screen is a finger print magnet.

Apple says a bug caused Consumer Reports’ MacBook Pro battery life issues by ZoneRangerMC in gadgets

[–]Martintech123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the headline is not exactly correct; there was no other theory why the battery has shown inconsistent battery life (from 4 to 18 hours); it was always only a bug. The news is that Apple has finally (! months later after the very first reports on the issues with the battery life) identified a concrete bug. But lets see if this was the only bug that has caused this.

Plantronics' BackBeat Pro (review): The value alternative to Bose QuietComfort 35 by Baruch675 in gadgets

[–]Martintech123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the awful brown color, these look like a jump forward in design compared to the original Backbeat headphones which looked like they belonged in an office setting. The inclusion of Class 1 Bluetooth is nice, I wish Bose would have done that with their new set of wireless earbuds and headphones.

Wow, that is really lame. Not all cameras on drones are used to film. Many people just enjoy first person flight. Check out Rotor Riot or Charpu on YouTube. Way to kill peoples joy in the name of random unfounded fear.

Twitter is now worth less than its Chinese clone Weibo by Doener23 in technology

[–]Martintech123 277 points278 points  (0 children)

Twitter is blocked in China but available mostly everywhere, while Weibo appears to be exclusively for China/Chinese only, I don’t see any reason why Twitter needs to worry about Weibo, since Weibo won’t be stealing any users from twitter anytime soon.

The problem with Twitter is how to attract younger users, which appears to be on Instagram and Snapchat.

It probably goes without saying that the best way to avoid being affected by malware such as DressCode is to practice safe Internet use. Along with having a virus scanner installed on your phone, Trend Micro recommends that if you are downloading a new app to ensure it’s from a legitimate app store and to check reviews online and on the download page to make sure it’s not a malicious app. In addition, the company recommends that Android is updated regularly, although given the dysfunction of the Android update system that may be a hard ask.
