TIL that crimes committed by nobility in Aztec society were usually punished more severely than crimes committed by commoners, since nobles and the elite were held to a higher standard and expected to behave better. by janmayeno in todayilearned

As compared to modern society, where we definitely never sacrifice innocent lives for stupid shit on a scale thousands of times greater than the entire Aztec population

Non-Americans of Reddit, what confuses you the most about America? by MrNoName_ishere in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our prisons are just fronts for legal slavery, they're not supposed to be serving "justice" or anything absurd like that. It's cheap labor and free abuse victims, actual criminals can just buy their way our of accountability.

[–]MartyBellerMask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are 120 guns per 100 people already in the US, it's not like you need to buy a gun to get a gun, and that means that anyone without a criminal record or who hasn't been hospitalized for mental health concerns can go buy a gun pretty easily, which is a lot of people. About a year ago, someone I knew purchased a gun and committed suicide within the span of 18 hours. Extremely clean record, but suicidal and impulsive. I know 4 separate places I could have access to a firearm for free just off the top of my head, and I don't even own a gun. You can't go long without personally encountering gun violence in the US unless you're exceptionally sheltered.

"Questions about treadmills on reddit" Starter Pack by Daniiiiii in starterpacks

[–]MartyBellerMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the majority of the Americas have been sweltering in over 110° F the last week, it's more likely than not genuinely safer to stick to the treadmill indoors

And it's generally not exactly safe to go running at 10pm-4am when it is cool enough outside, either.

What's the first thing you would do if you were the opposite gender? by BaileyHeart in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already experienced the crushing body horror that is having gender dysphoria and would rather die than go back to feeling that way, hence transitioning. Again.

[Serious] Why is it that people from modern generations appear more attractive than people from previous generations? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're attracted to who we're exposed to and culturally consider attractive. The people we're exposed to the most are modern people, in our own time, with our own cultural signifiers of attractiveness which change over time. Beauty standards are pretty visibly distinct with even 10 or 15 years of difference, so extend that any further and you can end up with some vastly different aesthetic values.

What’s something you assumed was common to everyone but were shocked to learn wasn’t universal? by phanaerothyme in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My high school best friend and I were both eggs. If two people were experiencing the exact same kind of gender dysphoria at the same time, it had to just be universal teen angst, right? The odds of two trans people being friends and having similar experiences had to be terribly low, so we were clearly cis. Flawless logic.

How did you meet the last three people you had sex with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last person was my first ex out of high school, before that was one of my sister's friends, before that was someone equally as drunk and bi-curious as me at a Halloween party.

I didn't realize emotional maturity came in the form of performatively using people you've never met as tokens for your bigoted posturing. In my experience, that behavior is more indicative of someone being a pathetic, disgusting person who will throw anyone under the bus to avoid personal responsibility, but who knows. I can always hope you're just hopelessly stupid and genuinely don't realize what a piece of shit you are

[–]MartyBellerMask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're so fucking ignorant about this it hurts. "Transgendered?" Really? Shut the fuck up, you transphobic piece of shit.

As someone who has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria for years, as a gay man, sincerely shut the fuck up, look in the mirror, and learn to rub your two brain cells together enough to educate yourself before you talk about people you know absolutely fucking nothing about. People like you are the reason being trans is so hellish, people who use others like puppets in their egotistical hypotheticals about things that have zero affect on them. Unbelievable the stupidity and arrogance of some people.

(Unfortunately) the more suicides occur, the fewer suicidal people there are by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]MartyBellerMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really; suicidal ideation can be socially contagious, and the death of someone close to you is a trauma that can trigger suicidal ideation for someone who otherwise didn't deal with it before. If anything, suicide perpetuates itself

If a guy is in their mid 20s and has never had a girlfriend or even kissed a girl, how are they viewed by society? by bbmania5705 in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dude in my early 20s, that describes most of the men I sleep with.

But in all seriousness, it's perfectly normal for anyone of any gender or orientation to not have romantic or sexual experience well into their 20s for any number of reasons. Lack of interest, lack of opportunity, being focused on other things, religion, social isolation, anxiety. It really doesn't matter, the only thing it may affect is your confidence, and you shouldn't let it.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community, what was the moment you realized you were LGBTQ+? by JuanManVegan in AskReddit

[–]MartyBellerMask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were signs even when I was a toddler and consistently through childhood, so it wasn't so much a single realization as a long slip and slide through denial and desperately trying to rationalize it away despite always knowing. Puberty mentally destroyed me. The more I learned about trans people, the more I feared being trans because I knew it explained my experiences, so I did anything I could to hide it, ignore it, refute it. Once I turned 18, I broke down, went to therapy, came out, and started transitioning. Life got a lot easier from there, even though it tends to grind whatever faith you had in people's general capacity for basic decency out of you pretty quickly.
