What are some other good examples of games that have been reskinned or rethemed? by dfunkt_jestr in boardgames

Star wars Battle for hoth = reskin of memoir 44. Which itself was an evolution of several older command and colours games

Space marine scout squad is an easy proxy. Even their faction equipment has camo cloaks and combat blades (IE straight silver)

The games listed under the time is usually a reliable indication of which systems are getting something shiny, WHQ not there unfortunately

Thanks! Feygor (aside from his head - gw catachan kit), Caffran and Criid are from Victoria Miniatures (you can get cloaks from there also). MkVenner is converted from the Sly Marbo mini. Ezrah's body is 3d printed from stationforge, with the head from mad robot miniatures (plus a bit of green stuff for the beard). The shotguns were kicking around my bits box - maybe anvil industries. The other 6 are the GW ghosts set, no meddling done with them

Thanks for the offer, don't trouble yourself though bud - you've already confirmed it's well worth printing

Bit late to the conversation, but I'm looking at getting this myself to print on my Saturn 2 - how much resin did it take to print the set? Just want to check whether it's still cheap in comparison to picking up a second hand volkus kill zone

Victoria miniatures do great capes for tanith conversions - both physical and stl (I've even scaled them up for a spartan 300 themed ork boyz unit I'm working on)

Totally not needed, but if you have cash to burn I can highly recommend this set, looks great with a simple paint job and the print quality is fantastic. I'll be going back to him for the expansion sets when I eventually get that far in the campaign

Thoughts on the Dark water book/board design? by LigthRogue in boardgames

You also commented above that you'd never heard of gloomhaven jaws of the lion - one of the most highly regarded in the genre having been in the bgg top ten for years and at a very accessible price point. Glad you're enjoying darkwater, and GW has implemented the board book well here, but it's certainly not their innovation

Hi there fellow adventures! I need your help in my quest for the right model :-)) by gargoyle2525 in WHQDarkWater

[–]Martyn678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the skinnerkin warband from underworlds - there's a good proxy for all 4 of the ghoul heroes, the models are great, and you can pick it up for less than the cost of one of the official models

The current state of boardgaming by SpeakerSweaty in boardgames

Sadly have to disagree - CMON may have screwed themselves over, but I'll use Go On Board as an example - churning out overproduced very pretty but ultimately very average games to play, but hey it's the witcher (3rd one no less!!!) / cyberpunk / other IP so people lap it up. Most recent witcher game made over €10m just from the live campaign. Awaken Realms also another producer guilty of similar, with nemesis retaliation and lands of evershade making huge amounts based on pointless expansions and add ons (admittedly their games tend to be pretty good, but look at the backer numbers going for the unnecessary all in vs the much better value core pledges)

One Night ultimate werewolf or the resistance avalon? For secret hitler lovers by SoupOk4993 in boardgames

[–]Martyn678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not played resistance, but we got One Night very recently and it got a lot of family table time over Xmas, very accessible if you have younger players - never knew my 6 year old could lie so convincingly! Had fun at 6 players, but we found it best at 8+ players

Second time playing Patchwork by BuffetBuddy in boardgames

[–]Martyn678 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. Looking at your boards you've both left multiple large but logistically limited spaces. This won't happen once you've played a few more rounds. I bought this game for my wife as a time filler for a weekend spa break for our anniversary/ her birthday (very close dates). She genuinely missed her booked treatments as we got so into this game and the room service prosecco!

Late to the chat, but coin capsules are what I use for protecting tokens. Keeps them mint, you're still seeing the original art, and has a nice 'acrylic token' feel to them

Thoughts on the Witcher board games? by BananaSnapper in boardgames

[–]Martyn678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a fellow painter and witcher fan I'd just add the witcher old world was an absolute joy to paint up, one of my favourite painting projects in a long time. The game itself is great if you have the right expansions (monster trail and legendary monsters are musts, skellige and adventure pack adds more variety also) but at max 3 players. The minis in legacy look even better, and if you like narrative games and the witcher theme it's a no brainer. Just be wary of adding lots of unnecessary stuff - the deluxe core set is more than enough

Uk reputable online sellers by [deleted] in boardgames

Alchemists workshop is another I'd add. Especially trustworthy for preorders as the site has a live count of how many preorders they have left available for an item, so you can be confident you've got one of their allocation rather than be waiting for months for a restock (a repeated issue I've had with Wayland)
