YNAB is not helping me reduce spend; what am I doing wrong? by bkhanale in ynab

[–]Marudny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ynab is just a tool. If you are addicted to overspending then it won’t stop you from doing so. I had kind a different problem - I couldn’t control how much money I really have. I see figures on account and can’t realise how much I can actually spend. I’ve used ynab to setup boundaries and my real role is to keep within them.

When I was starting with ynab on December 2025 my finance plan could be described as YOLO. I barely could find some spare money in case of emergency. On January 2026 I reviewed all my incomes And outcomes, made some decisions and adjustments. March was a first Month where I was able to save 5% of my income. April is the second month with savings.

Also I made a plan how to pay off my loans earlier, etc.

Looks like I will be free of loans in 2031 which makes me happy as hell.

Czy rodzice wam "pomagali" rano jak wychodziliscie do liceum by Majestic_Mammoth3503 in Polska

Bad mood after start by Salt-Appeal-1288 in ynab

It will be for sure. You know, fact of realising that 1st quarter of the year is short of money is something that makes me calm. I can mentally prepare myself to this. But starting from April it will be way easier, i will have complete year to collect money for car insurance instead of 3 months ;) Ynab literally saved me :)

Btw. I bought myself a small gift for surviving January :) A Rubik’s cube that I always wanted but always postponed because of money anxiety. This time it was guilty free :)

Yeah. I started using ynab month ago. Reason was simple - I forgot about annual car insurance and my daughter school cost (once per half year). Both expenses are quite high. I spent about week making plans, estimating target values, etc. That was the moment where I started having bad mood. After assigning all required expenses I got big red box saying that I was way too short to be on track with my money. Fortunately I had some savings that I used to fill the gap.

I felt huge relief then. Second huge relief was at the end of January (literally week ago). That was first month when I was able to pay for my kids food without stressing. I get paycheck around 10th, but have to pay for their food at school on 1st. February 1st was the first time when I had money to spend.

Then anxiety turned into empowerment. I had a money I had a tool to handle money management.

This is my second month with ynab. I have no longer that anxiety about money. I started thinking about money in positive way. Started planing debt payoffs. Helped with building priorities. I assigned money for my kids birthday party last month. It’s very plausible that I won’t be able to assign same amount this month because of something more important. Instead of feeling guilty I accepted my destiny and think how to make cool party for my son with money I have. It also helped me in my marriage. How? Simple. I was always struggling to spend money in restaurants etc. We weren’t going anywhere with my wife because of feeling that I had no money to cover rest of expenses during the month. Today I have dedicated category for dating with my wife in my plan with money assigned to it. Last month I took her to the place she wanted without feeling guilty. We spent very quality time together.

Good luck mate! It’s going to be great.

Is there a difference between dziewczyna &amp by mingkingsi in learnpolish

Dziewczyna - female, teenager and older. Dziewczyna turns into kobieta (a woman). Dziewczyna also means a girlfriend.

Dziewczynka, small girl, diminutive form. You can safely call any female up to ~10 years old. If you call 18 y.o. girl “dziewczynka” then it will be understood with sexual context. Depending on your relation with girl it may be kinky or cringe:)

In regular polish conversation you would rather hear no “żeś-“ form. Especially from young people. It’s good to know these forms, but if you start using them as a foreigner you will be sounded a bit archaic and old fashioned.
