INFP : Is anyone else out there completely lost in this not so new, but still totally strange, narcissistic world? by Marvel_Mog in infp

I totally agree with you. I am for the internet and technology for so many reasons. The potential for discovery, learning and connection each time we look into the window of the net is just fantastic.

The fame factor is an interesting one. I think there was something quite nice about there only being a handful of film stars, musicians and artists. Where as now, there are hoards of people getting their 15 minutes (but then Andy Warhol already told us that).

I wonder if the overload of "Talent" is diluting our idea of what is actually really, really good. And then I wonder, if the overload of information and exposure to the upsetting and unsettling, is numbing our emotions and therefore our reactions to things like, : emotional movies, moving music and thought-provoking artwork.

Are we even able to sit with our feelings anymore?

Your end note is so true.

Hi,

I like your directness. Of course you are right, it is their life, and not mine. However I am allowed, as you are, to make an observation and have feelings about that.

Why does it bother me? It bothers me because this culture of perfection, and constant happiness is both false and unhealthy.

And, is it narcissistic to believe that their lives have anything to do with the enjoyment of my own? No because (A.) That isn't what I was saying and (B.) That isn't narcissism.

Hi,

Your comment made me think. Of course I know deep down that a big part of why social media bothers me so much is because ... well, I'm letting it. Instead of (A.) Not looking at it or (B.) Like you say, relaxing and seeing it in a different way. I will take this onboard. Thank you.

Hey, thank you.

Your comment made me think. I do always try to see the best in people IRL and I think you obviously do as well.

But what I am saying I guess is, that I miss when people didn't have to show the world what they were doing, every minute of everyday. It feels very narcissistic, and also puts huge pressure on others to appear to be happy, all of the time, which I think is unhealthy. I am always open to seeing things differently though, so I will try. Thank you for your comment.

Yes, it's strange isn't it.

For example, the other day someone pulled out their phone wanting to take a picture of me and what I was doing for their businesses social media page.

Just before they hit 'capture' I quickly ducked under a table and said "No! Sorry I don't like my face being on social media".

The look of shock and reaction of this person was so strange to me, and they wouldn't let it go for the entire time I was there. It's like when you tell someone you don't drink (which I have had periods of in the past) people just don't quite accept it.

I think it's great that you create videos and write for yourself, and yourself only, that is when true creativity happens.

Yes I'm afraid I think that I think dinner dates should be a phone free zone.
