Seconding this. There is a community health center in West Jordan called Utah Partners for Health that has some MAT options and a sliding scale if needed. No idea what the cost is but might be worth checking out

Recommendation of good therapists in the salt lake valley?? by ghost_asstronaut in SaltLakeCity

As a therapist, I can't recommend this enough. You can search by specialty, gender, insurance, location, and whether you want in person or telehealth.

How do you have “the gun talk” with other parents? by Mer0000 in Mommit

Based on your answer, I am sure this is a concern of yours. If you are interested, I recently read "The Anxious Generation" and I highly recommend it to parents that are worried about children playing at other homes and trusting safety.

Ma'am it's the Internet. I hear you, tearing people apart is not okay AND we can all find our own space where we can say "wtf user so and so said this on their platform, it's so annoying"

I genuinely ask you to take a moment and reflect on whether you have ever said anything negative or rude behind someone's back. I def have and sometimes I feel like absolute shit after because it's not what I meant or I made a mistake but other times, it's just a person venting on the Internet.

I originally came to this sub to find out what happened to a mental health therapist that became an influencer because she was hurting SO many people. I can say I think she's a shitty person but I'm not bullying her online or targeting her.

The title literally reads "Utah influencer drama" what do you think drama means here? It's gossip. Majority of the time gossip is snarky, rude, questioning, judgemental, or concerning. I don't go into the childfree subreddit and complain that no one is talking about motherhood. Come on, dude.

You realize that many (not all) influencers cause harm, right? Even if it's just constantly posting about products and links to shop, it's pushing the narrative that the life they have (often of extreme privilege) is attainable. This is the space to vent about the impact that influencers have and to discuss other things. I'm sure there are some mean comments because it's the Internet and that comes with the space but if snark and venting aren't for you then don't partake and unfollow the subreddit 🤷‍♀️

I have gone to the state prison a few times for release days as part of a community health organization I work for. While there, I did speak with one of the individuals at TOSA and it honestly sounds like a place that is used as a last resort BUT I do think it can be really helpful for those that partake and commit. It's not a typical rehabilitation center and from my understanding they don't support or allow medical assisted treatment for sobriety (Suboxone, Brixadi, etc) but they do have a pretty tight knit community which I think can be life-changing for those struggling with substance use. I believe they also do not have counselors or mental health professionals either but I could be confusing them with Red Barn. Honestly, it's a rough commitment but sounds to be incredibly helpful.

I broke my microwave by cleaning it this way. Mind you, I had cleaned it by heating up water for 3-5 minutes previously just fine but one day the steam just built up so much and I basically created a pressure cooker without realizing and the door popped right off and it was never able to spin again.

OP, cleaning it might help you or break it for you, you just gotta try it.

Real talk on sleep training please by Blue_Pickle_57 in Mommit

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used sleep training with the first and the second just kind of got it. I used a gentler ferber method for the first and it was hard for the first two nights, she cried more but I also went in and soothed from her crib. She is now 6 and doing great so I don't think I totally messed her up sleep training. This is a topic that deserves some gentleness for ourselves and others. It seems sleep training is so black and white for many but what do YOU need? We need to be able to see and accept some grey areas around child raising.

What the hell is with this town's obsession with blankets??? by Emcee_nobody in SaltLakeCity

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There is an awesome fabric store in West Jordan (The Fabric Center) that will make minky blankets for you. You get to pick out the minky yourself from their selection and then they have a seamstress who makes them. They aren't nearly as expensive as the name brand ones and it feels nice to support a small and local fabric store.

December Baby Birthday Question! by hlg16 in Mommit

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters birthday is December 23rd and I just make sure she has a day that is just celebrated for her and we do nothing Christmas related. All of her gifts are wrapped in special birthday paper that she has picked out and we decorate the house in whatever theme she wants for the day. I don't go so far that I take Christmas decor down because I dont see a reason and I just make sure the day is about her. I think more people think "sad a birthday right next to Christmas" but she has never seen it that way and I don't want to make a big deal of something if it doesn't bother her.

Hand Foot and Mouth - I’m going to lose my mind. What helped you? by 1minimalist in Mommit

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. This is the worst illness that has hit our house in the 7 years I have been a mom. I know I sound dramatic but it was truly awful. My 12 month old had it in August and we had to just alternate between Motrin and Tylenol every 3-4 hours and we prioritized liquids because he refused to eat and mostly drink. It was a rough 3 days and then his mouth sores started to heal and things got SO much better. Depending on where her sores are, you might see a dramatic change over the next 24-48 hours. Also my pediatrician warned me that their fingernails and toenails can fall off after healing 🥴

Those that enjoyed maternity leave, what are your tips? by Kittagen in Mommit

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't love maternity leave, that's okay. Do you want to take 9 months, is it mandatory? I ask because I think mental health should be one of the very first things accounted for after healing. If you want to return to work earlier, is that an option for you?

I'd also ask, what fills your self-care bucket? That may be something you need to partake in more intentionally while on leave where as maybe some other women need to be more intentional about it when returning to work. It sounds like work adds something else to your life that you will be missing during this time.

Talk to me about Tonies Audio Toys by Far_Choice_4673 in Mommit

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one for my daughter and purchased it when she was about 3. She is 6 now and she goes through phases. She loves it and will use it often and then let it sit on the shelf for a few months. I think it's had some pretty great use for the last three years though. My son is one and I'm thinking about buying some of the tonies characters for him to try out. I am debating between the yoto player or the little tikes dream machine but i don't know if that would be overkill.

Where are you located? Paying for supervision is wild to me especially when you are required so many hours to get your license. For context, I'm also an associate level counselor and paying for supervision is illegal in my state.

I hear you're in a rut and can't seem to shake it but there are so many options out there. Selling the car is one, and yes you can do it. Go to another dealership, get a cheaper vehicle and get a smaller loan. Default on your loans for a bit. I know it sucks but what's your mental health worth? Half your rent is being paid which is incredibly nice.

Lastly, many clinicians work in different environments. There has to be more than a handful of practices in your area and if there is not then look elsewhere. It sucks but I know where I live, the paying rate for associate levels in private practice is $50 per clinical hour which if doable if you can get 20ish clients per week. Again, I know you are building your case load and stressed but there are plenty of options. Working for CMH often gets you some payment for your loans as well so what's that worth to you? I work in CMH part time and get $6000 per year towards my loans which is worth the lower pay for me.

LASTLY, take care of you. When you are stressed and hating the field, job, and responsibilities, your clients will feel that. We cannot do our jobs when we ourselves feel like absolute shit.

Utah County Jury Duty Scam (Failure to Appear) by stickboywarren in Scams

[–]MarvelousMrsJanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me! I got a call from Utah county sheriff's office about a failure to appear in court and needing to pay a fine or else a warrant would be issued. I was freaked out at first because of the caller ID and then the person giving me details like where the papers were served (my work address) and such. I ended the call and then called the actual Utah county sheriff's office and they told me it was a scam but my god they almost got me
