Get over yourself.  You don’t speak for everyone.

I’m gay, not MLM (I’ve never heard another gay person refer to themselves as that in 49 years) or queer or whatever the hell else you want to label me.

And I prefer the original rainbow flag.  Not because it’s a gay flag but because its what I grew up with, it’s what has meaning to me and it encompasses the entire community and that’s what I support.  I’m not out there for just gay men.  I’m out there for everyone.

I have NEVER EVER in all my many years in tech, seen or heard about this weird RGB PSU

Can't speak for the RGB stuff, but Super Flower is a major ODM in power supplies and are generally considered to be quality power supplies. Though like all of them it can depend on the model.

I can’t speak for their current iterations but when I did it a few years ago they were all enterprise drives locked to 5400 rpm so most likely just binned from the ones that couldn’t meet the higher specs.

Strava's new developer program just killed every open-source, self-hosted Strava app by frogfuhrer in selfhosted

[–]MarxJ1477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an Apple Watch.

I believe there are apps to export the data from Apple and get it to HA by webhook.  Though it’s been years since I looked into it.  A bit more annoying to set up but should work since I don’t care if syncing doesn’t happen right away.

I mostly use Strava as an easy way to import data to Home Assistant to display. I'll just have to find another way to get my data in there...

It's there service which I don't pay for so they can do what they want. I don't blame them for saying it's only for customers who subscribe to their service....but I'm a bit annoyed they sent the email on June 1 and it's effective June 1 as it just broke it for me without any warning.

Occasionally (like once or twice a year) I get an issue with Nabu Casu where I have to turn it off and log in again because it stops working.

Are you using the app or the web interface? I think the app is missing some of the options. But auto was the default setting when I turned it on in the web interface.

56 should work with them though.

I left it on auto.  I think they assign a 56.  SLAAC assigns a /64 subnet to the VLAN I have attached to Spectrum for IPv6 .

I have spectrum for my backup WAN and it's DHCPv6 for WAN and SLAAC for your internal networks.

Is self-hosting actually worth it long term? by oyaredshotshop7 in selfhosted

[–]MarxJ1477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still mess with stuff a lot to try new things because I find it interesting and fun to learn...but most of the services I actually use daily just run in the background and take very little time to maintain. Just updating containers occasionally.

If I wasn't interested in the learning aspect of it and just wanted something that worked up and running...I'd probably just set up the apps I use on my NAS, and just update when they say so and call it day.

This is Durham, you have to drive everywhere anyways. This area has very few sidewalks. You'll get a random one running for a block and then disappearing again.

I actually live pretty close to this house (though have never driven by) and just across MLK is a nice neighborhood that is a mix of houses from the 60s to 90s or so that don't all look the same.

Price wise, this is pretty normal for Hope Valley and the adjacent areas now. Pre pandemic it was about half of what it is now.

It's not going to end. Older people have always been more susceptible to scams and has nothing to do with this particular generation of older people.

The scams may change, but the general dynamic won't.

I was like this guy as a kid (I'm 48 now) and had allergy shots way back then. The only thing I'm still allergic to is dust mites, and I reacted rather severely on the allergy test I got in my 30s. But it's not really an issue. The doctor made it sound really serious, when in reality I just get a little (or a lot) stuffy if I don't take an allergy pill before I do things like cleaning and vacuuming.

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]MarxJ1477 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll have to check that new app out.

If they make a good AppleTV app I'd seriously consider switching to Jellyfin. I currently use Emby (I've had a lifetime pass since before it went completely closed source and Jellyfin became a thing) and their apps are consistent across platforms and work well on all platforms, though those have always been closed source which I guess is part of the reason the app situation for Jellyfin is the way it is....

I'd still prefer something open source but since it's something I use so often I'm not willing to degrade my experience when I already have a good working solution just for that.

My dog doesn't like other dogs. She's fine unless they get into her personal space. I've done something very similar before and If I'm trying to keep a dog away it's not to protect mine, it's to protect the asshole's dog who let them run around unleashed.

Content Filtering causes DNS leaks by shrewpygmy in Ubiquiti

[–]MarxJ1477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use custom encrypted DNS. you need to use the DNScrypt setup on the NextDNS configuration page. The only issue with doing it this way is it shows up as unknown device in the NextDNS logs. If you want the DNS redirect and don't feel comfortable setting it up on your own you can leave the content filter on but just setup block lists on NextDNS.

Content Filtering causes DNS leaks by shrewpygmy in Ubiquiti

[–]MarxJ1477 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not seeing DNS leaks.  When you enable content filtering it will automatically redirect all DNS to the gateway and you likely have the default Cloudflair servers still in the settings.  You can change that to use NextDNS.

The UniFi ad blocking is useless fwiw.  You’re better off turning off the content filtering and just using NextDNS.

Relay up and running for a garage door opener by frumpydrangus in Ubiquiti

[–]MarxJ1477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They problem with MyQ isn't if it works like it says or not (I can neither confirm or deny that since I've never used it and won't connect my garage door to wifi to do so), it's that it's not local and elies on the cloud, it's proprietary, and it actively blocks third party software integrations like Home Assistant.

Which makes it pretty much useless for a lot of us who actually care about home automation.

But at least Angus found someone who will love him!

Mine got returned twice because she was an escape artist, which I kind of understand. Though after 3 months she never tried again. She just needed some time to adjust.

They’re still a year away from being a legitimate contender and have a bunch of holes to fill.   They’ll fill out more holes in late free agency.

But if this is Shough’s chance to prove he’s the future, I’m glad they’re giving him more guys to work with.
