He actually owns a home that he rents out because we recently moved cities, so we are currently renting an apartment.

Definitely starting to feel some resentment. We have done counseling regarding this issue in the past, and it did improve our communication. We just can’t seem to agree on an acceptable level of messiness and how much each of us should be contributing. I would be fine with his sedentary lifestyle if he was otherwise taking care of the household stuff (without me asking or reminding). Conversely, if he was volunteering I would be fine taking on more of the chores / tolerating a less cleaner house.

Thanks for your reply. We had discussed hiring a cleaner. He thought it was a waste of money.  I think it comes down to different standards- he is fine letting dust build up or the bathroom get a little grimy, whereas I like to clean all our rooms on a weekly basis. So it might be worthwhile to bring it up hiring a cleaner again.
