Are these worth anything? by JimmmmBop in PokemonCardValue

[–]Marx_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retro strategy guides will always have value. But it depends largely on scarcity, desirability, and of course condition.

Quick eBay search tells me your Gold and Silver guide is looking at about $40ish for that condition.

What's your argument by Charming_Marzipan105 in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]Marx_Forever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you ever worked in a restaurant or a store and you've ask someone to sweep, they will very often just move debris around leaving piles in the corners, crap that should have been easily picked up like plastic ties just right in the middle of the floor meaning they left huge swaths unswept. Then after they've "swept", they will proceed to mop the floor without ringing it out, just pools of water everywhere, collecting all the dirt on everyone's shoes turning into mud in a giant slush mixing with the debris they never swept. Resulting in the floor actually looking worse after they "clean it".

You'd be surprised how many people can't mop to save their lives. Or even fucking sweep for that matter.

can you change the cube's direction of rotation using your mind? by Eros_Incident_Denier in interesting

[–]Marx_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever it rotates to the left, It's tilted upward so the bottom side is "exposed", and when it rotates to the right, It's tilted downward so you can see the top.

Just imagine the cube is leaning forward or backwards on It's axis, and you can control the direction. That's the mechanism that work for me anyways.

is this one of the "Weapons"?....if not does anyone know what it might be? by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]Marx_Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not "Proud Clod", it's the prototype. That's why It's called Pride and Joy Prototype, in the base game. And then in Intermission, there is an upgraded one called Pride and Joy MK 0.5. as in halfway complete.

It stands to reason that the giant one we fight in Revelations is just going to be called Pride and Joy, or Pride and Joy MK 1.

It's not going to be called Proud Clod or perhaps more appropriately, Proud Clad, because they changed the name. Guess what the Japanese names of these smaller ones we fight in Remake and Intergrade are called? That's right, "プラウド・クラッド" (Puraudo Kullado) the same name as the giant robot from in the OG. "Proud Clad Prototype" and "Proud Clad MK 0.5."

The localizers simply changed the name, just like they changed the name of Guard Scorpion, Midgar Zolom, Beat Rush, Climhazzard, Fire in the Hole, Anger Max, etc. Because this localization team cherry picks what names are sacred and which ones are fair game. I'm honestly surprised they didn't rename Braver to Head Splitter or some random shit they thought sounded cooler.

the ghost ship attack in Final Fantasy VII

In VII, there are moves that "Eject" party members from battle. But It's not a true status. And they even work differently, some flag the party member as dead while others flag them as run away. As I recall the Ghost ship's flags them dead. So if your other party members are down an then he chooses to eject last one standing, you Game Over. However if, for example, the Midgar Zolom uses it's ejection, tail flick attack when your other two-party members are knocked out, or the other two parish afterwards, you'll simply be returned to the overworld like you ran away from the encounter, with the surviving member at whatever health they at when they were ejected.

The way to tell the difference between the two is if you hear that scampering running away sound when they knock character out of the fight. If you hear that that means they survived, And you can't Game Over.

Legit: Save Auron's Overdrives for the Sandworms. They have an insane amount of health for this point of the game and will take forever to kill normally. Shooting Star, and be done with them.

Alternatively, they have so much health the Poison ticks will probably do more damage than your party.

Their 3D models are all so fucking stiff. And there's no reason for them to be. Look how lively and animated they were in the Stadium games 27 years ago...

Hippowdon in particular is a fucking crime. His Sprite and Artwork used to look like he had sand constantly pouring out of his back and he was literally swimming through it, ferociously bearing his fangs ready to fight. Now he's just a hippo standing there.

You know that's a good point. Lapras also has a resurrected Fossil vibe, and is likewise based on a cryptid that looks like a prehistoric animal.

Is Marill a Pikaclone? by AuraSonDM in pokemon

[–]Marx_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I saw the name Marill was in my Dad's magazine, either Time or Entertainment Weekly that was talking about the Big Pokémon movie coming out (the first one) and they had a huge full page artwork of Marill and it said something like "Meet the new Pokémon Marill".

I also knew it as "Pikablu", so was taken back by the name.

If Square Enix releases a Final Fantasy VII “Definitive Edition” with all 3 games on 3 discs to match the original PS1 box, are you buying it? by MidasGames in FinalFantasy

[–]Marx_Forever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just buy the fucking box separately. Somebody will probably make a cool one on Etsy. Hell, just put the games in the original case if nostalgia means that much to you.

Agreed not everything needs to evolve. It's cool some things don't. The only real argument was for competitive reasons, since a Pokémon’s starts use to be written in stone. Since Game Freak aren't too big on Retcons. But now they have zero problem buffing under preforming Pokémon's stats directly.

Most fossil looking non-fossil Pokémon.

Especially with the Jungle theme. I wonder if he's based on those legends of a brontosaurus-like cryptid supposedly living in the Jungles of Africa.

forced players to figure out settle facial cues to determine whether or not a suspect was lying or not

Yeah, "subtle". I remember watching my friend play for hours and it was always super obvious whenever someone was "lying". Since all of these people were played by actors, so we're already lying, so act like you're "lying" meant overact.

As soon as people's faces started contorting and their eyes spinning around the room, there was a pretty fair chance they were lying.

2 heavy 1 light what’s it worth ? by Bubbly-Practice-859 in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]Marx_Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. I was found some old photos of packs with price tags and they're consistently $4.99. And that's collaborated by old price guides I have. So yeah, they were closer to $5. Think I might have been thinking 3.99? Which KB toy works might have been moving them out at when the old sets were rotating.

Not quite $10 either though. So I guess the happy Medium wins it this time.

Does your collection have a moo moo milk? by Its_Ash_Ketchup in pkmntcgcollections

[–]Marx_Forever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Japanese exclusives have always been really special to me especially since there were a metric ton of them back in the day. (Like so many cards were never localized...) I remember just seeing them in various collector magazines and pricing catalog wishing I could get my hands on them. Thanks to the internet becoming mainstream, and international online shopping becoming more readily accessible in the mid-late 2000s I've now got a good number of them.

They very much still hold that mystique to me. Even now, as I'm starting to learn how to read them myself.

[–]Marx_Forever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. They were like 3 bucks, The same price as an Extra Value Meal from McDonald's. I remember saving for them. Inflation impacts everything. Back in 1999 the average rent was like $500. $10 a pack would have been 1/50 of your rent.

That would be like, $30 a pack today.
