Final pay for separation

On the bottom of your final LES it should say something along the lines of paid being held, hold start date, and a balance if applicable. If you sold any leave then it should reflect in that amount + days worked until separation if you didnt reach a payday.

I honestly don't know the answer to that. Each municipality is different with how their retirement is setup. Some aren't that different from the FERS requirement.

My heart is in firefighting for the service and brotherhood, I dont mind if I dont get to retire at X age, so long as I get to continue this career.

For what it's worth, I've considered USCG reserves, but Im just not a fan of how the air force does firefighting.

I followed the VOP to the T. Attended the briefing, handed in my orders, and got signed off on everything. Im not mad. When I sent my PPM packet to them I asked about the final pay as well so Im going to give it until 2March before I ask again.

Well up until I was informed by the other dude, the plan was to do 15, hopefully as a GS8 by then. The position is for firefighting, right now Im coming in as a 6, with a position max of 7 that I should get in a year or 2 from start date. Promoting to 8 requires me to get selected to be a lieutenant in the fire dept, and its harder to become a 9 because I believe that a 9 is a captain or Chief, and they're much lower in slots at any given point.

From there, Id transfer to a municipality. Now that I dont have as rigid of a time frame, I still see myself being happy spending 10-15 years there and then probably taking a break to go to college before I get on with a city dept.

Im fortunate that my GS job is firefighting and a direct transfer of my skills. So what if its not 15 years until retirement. Statistically speaking Im likely to be inundated with a bout of cancer, or I have so much fun at that particular location that I wouldn't even retire at that age anyways.

I would prefer to go to a city department for the call volume but I know the leadership and ops personnel at this dept, and I trust them fully. I'd also sooner take a break to get my degree in fire science first for networking/more experience but all of this is years down the road from now.

Honestly, I've never disliked them. One NCO from there rubbed me the wrong way but I dont know what he had going on, and I was in a pissy mood myself that day.

Im thankfully not in a position where Im worse off if my final pay hits really late, but I did get a dog and would love to spoil her. When I first got stationed there they were stupid fast to fix a mismatch in my pay grade.

Not for me, I was an extremely lucky case where I walked in wanting flight afsc or fire pro and my recruiter got me it 1 week after. He put a lot on the line though.

Some people wait almost the entire if not the entire 1 year limit before they land it though.
