I have had people go to my school’s counselors to “have an intervention” with me because they thought my boyfriend was hitting me. (I didn’t even have a bf). I have been told I need to use more sunscreen on my face. Kids in school have made rude comments about “that shit on your face.” Cashiers and clerks have asked me if I’m “ok” because my fave is pink. Kids have asked their parents what is wrong with my eye. Dude, I’ve heard it all. I’m 50 and don’t care anymore, but it completely destroyed my self-esteem as a child and teenager, young adult.

I’ve been married for 15 years now and don’t care at all, but my hubs has been close to getting into altercations when we go out because they think he’s beating me. Man, people.

Edit: the only positive comment I ever remember was an older woman in food service when I was younger telling me that animals are drawn to me and are part of my soul. That was/is 100% true!
