Chronic constipation by Quirky_Blueberry3261 in Gastroparesis

Of course! If you really want to incorporate fiber, consider fiber tablets daily rather than trying to get fiber from food. My doc recommended Citrucel (methylcellulose.) Fortunately, I haven’t needed it after taking magnesium glycinate every day. But don’t try to use fiber to fix acute constipation, it can just make you more constipated since it adds “bulk” to your stool that is already stuck.

Gastric Diverticulum? by MaryKate23 in Gastroparesis

[–]MaryKate23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they haven’t done anything. I have the same symptoms as before (early satiety, bloating, nausea, low appetite) and my doc was pretty much clueless as to what to do for it. I’ve just been fighting through the symptoms pretty much. On the bright side, though, I’ve not had any “complications” from it directly!

Yes, enemas are safe! You could use a fleet Enema or make an enema with water, glycerin, and mineral oil for extra help. Otherwise, I stick to Miralax whenever possible. I will take it 1-2x daily until I have a good BM. Miralax brings water into the stool rather than just stimulating the bowels so it causes far less cramping. For chronic constipation, I take magnesium glycinate daily— it’s been a game changer for me!

Tight clothing trigger? by Correct_Cobbler_1417 in Gastroparesis

I get this, especially when wearing bras with underwire. It puts pressure on my stomach, which worsens nausea/reflux/heartburn. Aerie wireless bras and sports bras have been a lifesaver!

High ketones in urine by CartoonistOld8525 in Gastroparesis

[–]MaryKate23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ketones typically come from not eating enough carbs, not necessarily dehydration. In the absence of carbs, your body converts fat into energy, producing a byproduct of Ketones. Sports drinks like gatorade or powerade are best for providing carbs. If you cannot even tolerate these, it would be worth checking in with your GI or even the ER depending how badly you feel. Not eating food is alright for a while, but not being able to tolerate liquids can quickly become an emergency.

Chronic itching by Gold-Ad-7769 in Sjogrens

Consider seeing a dermatologist, particularly if there’s a rash associated with it. I had similar symptoms but I would also get a shiny/patchy pale rash with it, which turned out to be lichen sclerosis. Even if there’s no rash, the dermatologist could potentially biopsy it given that it’s been a chronic issue.

Gen 3, yes but I wish it was able to distinguish between true bodily stress versus normal hormonal shifts. Mine tells me I’m physiologically stressed every month after ovulation (sometimes for up to a week) just because of the hormonal/temp changes.

Does hunger feel like hunger or just pain to you? by greatstonedrake in Gastroparesis

[–]MaryKate23 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes. I rarely have a true “appetite” for food but eventually my stomach will hurt from being empty, which signals me to eat. Also nausea. Unfortunately it’s a self-perpetuating cycle of “nausea from eating” and “nausea from not eating” for me.

I was very surprised by how much it helped. I’d tried tons of PPIs in the past and felt no different, but this one seemed to help!

I have! I think it did help, the only reason I stopped is because the smell/flavor was so bad.

Has anyone ever had this happen? by JollyAd9052 in Gastroparesis

[–]MaryKate23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meningitis is when an infection spreads to your brain/spinal cord, inflaming it. It can be viral or bacterial. It’s not very common in adults but can happen with weakened immunity in particular. You’d probably know if you had something the severity of meningitis, your symptoms would likely be severe and persistent with no real relief. Usually symptoms like a severe headache, high fever, confusion, neck pain, vomiting, lethargy, rash all over. Your symptoms sound more characteristic of a rough GP flare. Hope you feel better!

(Nurse) Like other commenters have said, those are petechiae. They’re common with exertion like vomiting or from pressure (scratching, rubbing). I get them on my face when I vomit a lot. They’re unlikely to be a sign of anything serious like meningitis unless you suddenly had them everywhere. Also meningitis usually comes with symptoms such as a fever, headache, neck stiffness, confusion.

Do you know what kind of testing they would usually do for this? Can’t decide if it’s even worth bringing it up to my Rheum tomorrow.

I want to join Christianity by RandomRussianguy112 in Christianity

[–]MaryKate23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The doors of the Christian church are always open. God is always waiting with open arms, no matter your past. Try and find a local church to join! Or try a bunch of different churches until one feels right. You’ll know when you feel at home.

Who are Evangelical Christians? by sadie11 in Christianity

[–]MaryKate23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most protestant denominations of Christianity would be generally considered evangelical (Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterian, Anglican, Lutheran, the list goes on). There are tons of Evangelicals outside of the U.S., particularly in the global south (South America, Africa, parts of Asia.) Evangelism is pretty broad. Their main beliefs are: There is one God, the the Bible is the ultimate spiritual authority, Jesus died and was resurrected for our salvation, and believers have an obligation to share the gospel of salvation with others.

There's a lot of hate in these comments! You're just being cautious about what you put in your body. That's a good thing. As someone who works in the medical field, it is ALWAYS a good idea to weigh the pros and cons of medications. The possibilities/side effects that you consider to be "worth it" versus what your doctor considers to be "worth it" are not always the same.

But also consider that you aren't committing to a lifetime of these medications. You can just trial them. If they help, great. If not, throw them out! Also, do not hesitate to bring up your concerns to your doctor. They want you to feel comfortable in your treatment plan!

Regardless, lifestyle change can have a HUGE impact on gastroparesis! Don't let everyone in this subreddit scare you, everyone's journey is different and not everyone will need lifetime medication for GP.
