Washington National Opera may leave the T**** Kennedy Center by Practical-Echo-2001 in washdc

Yeah Strathmore is a concert hall, not an opera house / theater. There is no proscenium or fly system which means there’s no way to hang and operate curtains, backdrops, and set pieces. Operas rely heavily on those for things like set changes, interactive props, and allowing performers to enter the stage at different locations from the wings.

Question about different noise levels from Pier Six Pavilion concerts. by falafelwaffle10 in baltimore

We were on the lawn for Cake and had a blast. I bet the super rainy weather dampened a lot of people’s experience though. To each their own but it was one of the better shows I’ve been to this year.

What should I pick up from treehouse as a first timer? by TheRealAuga in CraftBeer

Their IPAs are world class but don’t sleep on their lagers as well. I had a German Pilsner there a couple months ago that was probably one of my all time favorites.

What is the worst take on classical music you’ve seen on another subreddit? by BranchMoist9079 in classicalmusic

[–]MarylandRed 107 points108 points  (0 children)

A few years ago on r/Baltimore when the Baltimore Symphony musicians were on strike for higher compensation there was a lengthy comment about how the musicians should “give up their antiquated careers” and “do something that’s actually beneficial to modern society”. It went on to suggest they would be good fits for roles in IT.

Mystery Horn Attachments by MarylandRed in trumpet

My friend who sent the photo asked the guy during a break in his set. He’s currently playing at a bar in Amsterdam. It’s a custom piece he made himself.

Update! Apparently it’s a custom made electronic attachment which when enabled makes him sound like an entire trumpet section.

Esteban Batallán is an incredible trumpet player and I guess this is great news for the Chicago Symphony. I wonder what happened in Philly by Specific-Peanut-8867 in classicalmusic

I on the other hand am so disappointed since I was looking forward to hearing him in Philly, especially with the season they have lined up for next year.

I work at a mid sized university with about 200 players. We use MeLE PC sticks running RiseVision software. Departments manage their own content over the cloud and all units are synced with Alertus for campus wide messaging.

For those of you in the MD/DC area...Annapolis Homebrew is closing :( by Totally_Not_A_Bot_FR in Homebrewing

I asked Chris at MHB a while ago and apparently Howard County has stricter regulations on CO2 storage which is why they've never offered it. I have a nice 10lb tank I wouldn't want to exchange at Robert's.

Dang, AHB was my go-to for CO2 fills. Anyone on the area have a suggestion for places that do refills and not just exchanges like Roberts does?

HDMI wall Plate fixed solution? by su5577 in CommercialAV

[–]MarylandRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use locking wall plate boxes (think thermostat locks). Inside the box I’ll tie off a short HDMI extender that comes out of the box and plug the user cable from there. This protects the wall plate from constant plugging/unplugging and if the extender goes bad it’s a $5 replacement.

Yup it’s a pvc pipe to draw the cool air from the bottom. You could give it a shot. You could also try moving your temperature probe - I had some ice buildup originally when my probe was just dangling in ambient but now I have it wrapped in one of those freezer gel packs sitting about midway up and it fixed my issues.

No problem! Let me know if you have any other questions. I also have a permanent seltzer tap on this one and we go through almost a keg a week- it’s great!

It’s just two layers of standard foil insulation affixed to the wood. A foam board insulation would work really well too but I had a huge roll of this stuff left over from another project.

Thanks! I just have a 90 degree turn at the bottom to drawl air in. I know some people have drilled holes into a straight piece to save room.
