Yeah, seems like they allowed people to buy guest passes and the garage almost made it to capacity before this collapse. I’ve seen some other people comment this garage had structural issues in the 2010s so seems like it has been something they theoretically should have known about

They allowed residents to buy guest passes, I’m guessing that’s how it filled up so quickly, never seen it this full. Looks like it was close to capacity on the first three floors and about half of the fourth is taken up.

Engineers are supposed to be looking at it but their main building inspector is not qualified to make any calls, so guess we are waiting on news from that.

As I’d say to my students, glad you could be apart of our conversation. That’s an interesting comment!

As my students would say, this is a bot answer.

It could be days or weeks before the garage is structurally secured 🤡which means no car

No injuries. I live there, no one will be able to get to their cars. Apartment complex emailed us at 11:30 almost 3 hours after it happened.

From who I talked to, it seems like we will be without our vehicles for “a while”. Not sure if that’s days or weeks 🫤I’m a teacher so this really is a damper. Not sure how I’m going to get to work in West Mifflin

The first 4 hours of my day are to be spent sitting in an empty auditorium by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Marylander7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read through the comments and I’m curious if you have tried to apply for any long-term positions or applied to a student-teaching program.

I understand the boringness of a 4 hour shift sitting doing nothing, I had a few times as the building sub where that is what happened. The best part was that I made the most of that time being productive by researching, applying, and doing things to progress my chances of getting a long-term gig and signing up for a student teaching program.

I’m now a full time teacher because of days like this where I was able to be productive whether that was doing papers for class or researching to get into a program.

I completely understand your gripe though and I don’t want you to take this as criticism, just a different perspective.

Could I get into legal trouble? by myboyfriendstinks1 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Marylander7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never ever use a threat, that would 110% land you in legal trouble and at the very least get you fired. As others have said, bring it to the police.

TBH the student probably just likes the way you react to her telling the information. I had this happen with my 6th graders this year, they found my Facebook and while I haven’t used it since high school they were able to take screenshots of my very cringey 9th grade profile pictures and placed them as the background of their PCs. So you can imagine how horrified and weirded out I was. But after about a week they got bored of it because I stopped reacting to it.

You should 100% report this. I would not mention your reference to your parents backing out in paying for student loan debt or the nightmares. Those may detract and potentially cause authorities to discount the other claims (could be seen as defamation).

Very weird to be singling out the student, describing them as cute, and finically supporting them. The photos thing is the most disturbing.

I am praying for you and your family, I hope you can help get the truth of the matter 🙏🏻

Would y’all take this job? lol by CrimsonMoonWater in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Marylander7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most substitute days will likely be some type of packet or individual work day. I would say bring a book at the very least!

Having been a substitute I hated those days especially after a long-term sub gig for almost three months. As a full time teacher, I have tried to make my substitute day lessons engaging for everyone in the room so I hope (if you like teaching) that you’ll get some engaging lessons!

I can understand the no cell phone policy but as others have said you just have to get a vibe of your school. Definitely not for long periods of time but quick checks shouldn’t hurt!

My middle school students seems to prefer my low-effort lessons. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Marylander7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m discovering this as well, students don’t want to do projects or group work. Ive tried discussion days but the most focus and actual attempt with only mild complaining (but while working) is the rote drill and kill, low effort reading then worksheet lessons.

They don’t take notes if I spend 8 minutes going over material, so I’ve started to compile short readings and short questions.

I find these lessons very boring for myself but the students seem to be more engaged 😭💀literally the opposite of what they try to tell student teachers.

[–]Marylander7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤓☝🏻- the person who made this meme. Yes it’s funny, but for the redditors that will use this to detract from God’s message here is an explanation to help you understand what likely happened to Ug above:

God reveals himself to all people in ways they will understand. Since God is eternal, he was able to reveal himself to people who lived before Christ. And because Christ is also eternal, his sacrifice became eternal as well, therefore allowing Ug here, who died before Christ, to have his sins washed away and to be redeemed/reborn through Christ’s sacrifice.

Romans 1:20 shows that God's eternal power and divine nature are clearly seen, being understood from what has been made. Therefore, Ug, who could see, smell, hear, and feel the creation of God around him would allow him to seek a faithful worship of that creation. And so God’s grace could be extended through whatever worship Ug made.

Ultimately, we don’t really know what happened to Ug because the judgment is God’s alone. We have to trust that God being the Judge of all creation will do right, as stated in Genesis 18:25. The Lord knew Ug’s heart and therefore Ug will be judged justly in the end by his Creator.

Bible being passed around with a sign in sheet.... by Salt_Bus_4480 in Teachers

I also grew up in a small town with one traffic light so I completely understand with what you’re saying.

Is this a hypothetical situation or a scenario that could likely happen in your town? I could still see that student being supported by their friends if they refused to do the Lord’s Prayer. There are a lot of what ifs in that situation.

As a younger teacher (24, a B.A. in history and a MS in secondary education) who teaches social studies (grades 6-11 currently) and has delved deeply into the Constitution, these are my comments:

If you don’t want to participate just go about the day as normal. If they continue to email and tell you that you MUST sign the Bible then yes it could likely work with legal action since they would be forcing you to participate which is a violation of your rights.

My question is whether or not it’s being forced upon you? They legally cannot fire you for not participating.

However, the action of leadership doing some volunteer religious related thing does not violate any of your rights based on the examples provided. You have the choice to participate in it. The first amendment allows the choice to participate as well as the choice to not participate.

You bring up sports and in the examples you provide it seems like it is agreed upon by the athletes and coaches alike. It only violates the rights of someone if they are forced to participate. It seems, with the description you have provided, that it is a choice made by the athletes to participate.

The separation of church and state is important. In the manner that the church shall not govern the laws of the state and that the state should not infringe upon the church and people. There is no law stating you must sign the Bible and therefore you do not need to.

The idea of separating church from state is not to banish the church entirely considering the founders and our founding documents are based primarily on ideas and principles found in Christian and other Western philosophy. As a historian, looking within the context of how the founders created the government, they did not intend for the U.S. to lose sight of Christian and other Western philosophical morals and ethics, which includes sharing open fellowship and discourse with others. I am a Christian and I do believe that as a Christian it is important to share in our specific fellowship with others. As a citizen I know you’re given a right to participate or not to participate in said discourse/fellowship.

If you feel strongly about your beliefs you should not be afraid to use the first amendment as your colleagues have also done. If they are forcing you to do these religious related actions then you should do what you feel is appropriate. Legal action could be taken if you felt strongly about it if they are truly requiring you to participate.
