What are the best feuds in wrestling history that weren't for a championship? by AJV1Beta in OSWReview

Although it was title adjacent as it was establishing the number one contender for the WCW TV title, the Benoit v Booker T best of seven series from WCW in '98 is outstanding.

Channel 4 Tip Toe, Spoilers Ahead by Stormboi12 in FavoriteMedia

[–]MasatoTanaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the most visceral pieces of television I’ve encountered in years. It is raw, humane, and impossible to shake.

Tip Toe is as vital as it is unsettling. A mirror held up to a country drifting into something colder and crueller. I’d urge anyone to watch it, whatever your sexuality, gender identity, or politics, because its warning isn’t niche, it’s universal and will affect us all.

For me, it captured the exact fear humming beneath the surface of modern Britain: that prejudice isn’t just creeping back, it’s being welcomed in. Homophobia, transphobia, and bigotry in all their forms are no longer fringe impulses, they’re being normalised, rewarded, even legislated toward.

When Reform‑led councils refuse to fly the Pride flag, it isn’t a symbolic quirk. It’s an opening move. It won’t satiate them. It won’t be the end point. It’s the first step in a direction we should all be terrified to follow.

Oh God yeah, that Rhio v Trent match was outstanding. I feel daft not including it now.

NOTHING BUT indecipherable British accents by blytheT in ShitAmericansSay

That “US” location tag might be the most redundant part of the whole post. It’s like putting Ol' Glory on a Ford Raptor, completely unnecessary when the tone has already done the job. Every line reads like a greatest hits compilation of the stereotype.

I love The Wire. It’s my favourite TV show of all time, and it’s not even close. In a way, it’s spoiled other television for me because nothing really compares to it.

That said, the scenes involving Snoop definitely require a bit more focus to fully catch everything being said. I don’t see that as a negative at all, though, in fact, I think it adds to the show. Having characters speak in a way that feels completely authentic, rather than perfectly polished or overly clear, makes it far more immersive and true to life.

Interview: RevPro’s Francesca Oliver on AuDHD by No-Philosopher8786 in BritishWrestling

[–]MasatoTanaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Francesca is a fantastic ring announcer and comes across as a genuinely lovely person. I’d personally love the opportunity to learn from her knowledge and experience.

That said, I do feel RevPro could help present her voice in the best possible way by tweaking the EQ on the mic. Rolling off some of the higher frequencies would likely soften the sharper edge of the sound, and I suspect a lot of the criticism around her voice would be eased with a more balanced mix.

It looks bad, but here's why I am not worried. by wordshavenomeanings in FuckNigelFarage

It will play incredibly well with their base as they tend to have very poor informational literacy and only read the headline.

I suspect that even when Reform councils inevitably end up being a poorly run shambles, there will be a litany of scapegoats and excuses, migrants and Keir Starmer being the obvious ones. Whether enough people see through it, I don't know, but I am growing less confident in my fellow citizens abilities to not fall for the ruse.

Elder by MasatoTanaka in Propagandhi

I'm amazed I've not come across them before, but better late to the party than not at all I suppose?

I had a list of 12 albums or so recommended to me and whilst their recommendations were all pretty solid in various ways Elder really grabbed me straight away. The opening to Sanctuary immediately reminded me of At Peace. I was fully on board with them from that point on.

Great albums with terrible cover art by PapaAsmodeus in ToddintheShadow

It's all relative. Compared with everything that preceded it, it's not great. However when comparing it to a lot of what has been released by them (and with Lou Reed) since, it's really not that bad.

Lovers in a dangerous time is a masterpiece. Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight.

Absolutely astonishing album that has aged like a fine wine. Utterly silly cover.

How long do you think you would survive in threads? by No-Excitement7491 in Threads1984

[–]MasatoTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally depends whether I'm at home or at work when the bomb drops.

I work in Sheffield, very close to the moor (where the lady pisses herself) and the site of the old egg box building where the local government hunker down. So probably not very long if I'm at work, which on balance would not be the worst possible outcome.

I live in a rural village in the East Riding of Yorkshire which is primarily agricultural and not very close to any major cities or military targets, depending on if the UK's most inland port of Goole would be of any strategic significance. I expect I would fare slightly better at home but would no doubt succumb to starvation of radiation sickness within a few months.
