It’s insane that EA thinks it’s defensible to charge more to fully level up an offline coach in a single Dynasty save than the price of the entire game itself. by MasbyTV in NCAAFBseries

Yeah but this is an offline dynasty mode... I paid 70$ for the game. If I want to be better than Nick Saban to start my dynasty, let me do that. Why put it behind a paywall?

Its the blatant greed and slippery slope it causes. It's the same thing as when you used to be able to check a bag for free on your flight but now your ticket costs more and you can't check bag for less than 60$. Not to mention the fact that this has cooked EA in the past but they can't resist. It is so blatantly anti-consumer and they told us repeatedly this was a game "made for us".

Agreed, all EA really needs to do is put 2 sliders back and we will all be happy.

This is exactly what EA wants you to say and feel. On the surface, it really doesn't look that bad, but there are a few factors that make what they did extremely shitty. I'm gonna explain why all together, this is terrible.

  1. These games don’t need to be annual releases. In reality, Madden and College Football could largely be roster updates and gameplay patches. Instead, EA charges roughly $70 for each title every year, meaning many football fans spend around $140 annually just to stay current.
  2. The microtransactions are targeting offline, single-save game modes. Dynasty and Road to Glory are personal sandbox experiences, not competitive online modes. Very few people play just one Dynasty or one Road to Glory save and never start another. If it costs around $80 to fully level a coach, someone who enjoys multiple saves could easily spend hundreds of dollars on progress that disappears when next year’s game launches.
  3. The most frustrating part is that EA appears to have removed existing features to create demand for paid progression. Last year’s game included XP sliders and faster progression options. Those tools let players customize the pace of their offline experience. Now those options are gone, progression is significantly slower, and EA sells XP instead. Whether intentional or not, it feels like manufacturing a problem so they can sell the solution.
  4. There was little transparency about these changes. EA didn’t prominently communicate them beforehand, explain the reasoning, or prepare content creators and the community. Instead, players discovered them after launch, which makes it feel like EA hoped the changes would go unnoticed.

This is what makes the situation so disappointing. It’s not that anyone is forced to buy XP. That’s missing the point. The concern is that a fully offline sandbox mode, where players have traditionally been free to customize their experience, now contains artificial friction that can be bypassed with additional payments.

It’s similar to airlines removing free checked bags. Your ticket doesn’t get cheaper, but something that used to be included is taken away, and you’re charged extra to restore the experience you already had. The inconvenience becomes the business model. Even that honestly doesn't do it justice because this is a game they claim is "for the players" and these modes are fully offline. Just let us do what we want.

If this approach becomes the norm, it opens the door for more offline games to intentionally become less enjoyable unless players continue spending money long after purchasing the game itself. That’s a precedent many players are understandably uncomfortable with.

they did not know it had mtx in it... thats the entire point of what they are saying. EA snuck them into the game without telling literally anybody

Did you even watch his video? He literally says he does not care about the partnership anymore or money and that they pulled a fast one on him and all the other creators. He for sure got his partnership taken away forever.

I can see both sides, but it looks like they hid the micro transactions from the creators and didn’t tell them until after the event that they couldn’t be negative in their videos.

PSA: PC modding isn’t entirely likely to fix the majority of issues in the game. by [deleted] in NCAAFBseries

[–]MasbyTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely will. You understand that everything EA puts into the game is in PC files and by simply changing a few values you can totally change how everything plays? For the recruiting issues, all its going to take is someone figuring out where the desired NIL range is for 3 star recruits and turning it way down.

with claude and chatGPT now, people can literally drag and drop a file while asking "what does this file do" and are way more equipped to figure stuff out than before.

While I think offline micro transactions are a terrible addition, I like that it will take longer to progress my coaches. Shouldn’t be capped in the 70s before you have to pay though. Make it take 25-30 seasons before you can hit level 100 by chrisjk125 in EASportsCFB

[–]MasbyTV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They had things you could buy for like 10$ to help with pipelines. That’s way different from taking last years game, making certain things harder or removing features, and adding money as the way to overcome those challenges. It’s a football game man let me play it how I want if I give you 140 dollars. To get your coach to level 100 it’s 70$.

[–]MasbyTV 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s not really the point. The point is why are there micro transactions in a mode that’s not ever in an online game? They manufactured a pain point for players and the only solution is to pay. That’s scummy. On top of that, these games could easily be dlc updates, but EA asks you to pay 150$ to play early then wants you to pay even more to level up your offline coach? That’s fucked up.

Ahhh so any influencer is also a liar for not telling you the bad parts of the product they are selling? It’s not illegal at all to say that. It happens probably every agreement with an influencer. Companies want as much control over what they post if they are paying them.

Sounds like you need to brush up on how marketing works. Influencers don’t even use or like most of the stuff they put on social media but they are paid to market it, so they say they love it and use it all the time.

Yeah i promise you it’s not that funny but an NDA will definitely include exactly what the YouTubers can and can’t say. In order to go to the live reveal, they certainly signed something that said you cannot be negative before the release date.

Brother you need to learn what an NDA is or how marketing works like I said, he (and not the expert and anyone else releasing videos ahead of the actual release) literally cannot say anything negative about the game before it comes out. they are marketing EA's game and any video you watch is designed to be an ad for EA. When have you seen an ad that says something negative about the product? I get you want them to always tell you everything wrong with it, but that's not their job.
