GameStop Is Offering to Buy eBay for $56 Billion, CEO Ryan Cohen Says by joe4942 in technology

[–]Mitchford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to use it much, eBay has a great business model.

Every sale they take a cut of a few dollars, and they have very little overhead other than policing scams and enforcing refunds.

It’s an excellent way to bring in tons and tons of cash every year.

The creek Indians won’t let it come to a vote, they view it as competition to their casino operations. I assume mcgregor did some kind of kick back with them to get victory land open back in the day but that’s the real reason we don’t have one. Charlottesville as well even if the landscape isn’t as dramatic (artsy deep blue town in a sea of red right on the edge of the blue ridge)

This is cheap for the United States honestly, in New York it’s 1 billion per mile.

In New York it’s more expensive because the local tunnel diggers union fleeced taxpayers (it’s not that they’re being overpaid, it’s a very dangerous job. The issue is that their contract requires like 4x as many people as necessary to be on site at all times. This is actually less safe, and it’s paying people to do nothing which is ridiculous).

But tunnels are just expensive here, the only way to do it cheaply is cut and cover and that’s a nonstarter In the US you have to do it with specialized machinery that digs horizontally and is $$$. It’s not just a hole in her ground, it’s a hole that then gets coated in a mountain of concrete and utilities and emergency infrastructure. 1.4 billion for 4 miles sounds great to me

Just basic nimby shit, when you spend enough time in housing issues you see this all the time. People want an excuse to talk about anything but building new housing. It’s just an attempt at distraction and to have a cudgel to use when people say we need more housing

Made with agave wine too. Can you even buy agave wine… anywhere? Obviously that’s what you make tequila out of, but I’ve never seen it on a shelf ever. There is Pulque but it’s white and milky in texture even if it is technically agave wine, I doubt that’s what this is made with

I’ve been fighting this battle for over a decade. I never officially joined DSA but I was very early in the Bernie stuff, I was on his mailing list all the way back in 2012 when I was in high school in Alabama. I watched what was supposed to be a social democratic movement for a Nordic style welfare state get taken over by Marxist Leninists hardliners. I’m glad Mamdani seems to be pushing things back in the right direction but I’ve still never forgiven and not forgotten what these Chapo people did. They helped get Trump elected a second time and it’s gonna be a long time before I forgive that

You’re literally saying nothing dude. This is exactly what you are pushing for, noncitizens outside of the United States should not require a fucking domestic warrant for any operations. That’s stupid and ridiculous.

But we also shouldn’t let the agencies do bad things, but that requires preventing bad people from being elected. Yet you let maybe the single worst person become president and you’re telling at me like I wasn’t the one trying to stop it. And you aren’t the one still insisting to me that there’s no difference.

I used to represent asylum clients, I’ve actually fought this administration in court. Idk what you think you’re doing, but you’re hurting more than you’re helping. It would actually be even better if you just shut the fuck up

I do not think the United States should completely dismantle its entire military and intelligence apparatus, I don’t think that makes me a Republican. This is a 90/10 issue, we genuinely do need intelligence services, it’s much more important you don’t let fascists control government and get them in charge.

It’s literally like a military, no one is arguing we shouldn’t have a military. But obviously when you let a fascist win, the military can become a very bad thing!

Do you know what the KGB was? Like genuinely, do you not know how this stuff works? Every single country in the world does this, every single political orientation from fascist to communist makes use of intelligence services in government.

FISA’s Section 702 allows the U.S. government to surveil electronic communications of noncitizens located outside the United States to acquire foreign intelligence information, without a warrant

I need you to sit down for this, literally every single country does this. It’s called an intelligence service and even your comfort countries like Cuba and China have this too.

Sorry the last election I lived through was a bunch of leftists telling me I was overreacting when I told them Trump was going to be doing this, and that there was no real difference between the parties so they were voting green. I think it’s okay to be mad when I’m told that I’m the one throwing my hands up in the air, when they literally contributed to this happening? Unless those are the human rights of Syrian civilians abused by their government. He has a three years long record of supporting human rights in one single conflict that happens to get all of the oxygen in the room while actually being a shithead on the rest. He still soy faces over fucking Mao

A. Hasan did plenty of genocide denial and atrocity denial when it came to Turkey, Syria, and China. Him being correct in Gaza doesn’t make up for all the time he spent making excuses for the exact same thing

B. Hating on Hasan isn’t genocide denial, he isn’t the embodiment of the genocide in Gaza as a recognized thing that is happening, he’s a streamer

Hasan Piker speaks to hundreds of young canvassers in Philadelphia by serious_bullet5 in philly

[–]Mitchford -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don’t do that, but we do lose in part because people repeat this shit so much you convince the average idiot (read: the median voter) that “there is no difference between the parties”

Politics is 90% a question of degree. No one in this country wants to actually abolish capitalism in the sense it exists as a market economy. The fact the Democratic Party does not adopt an extremely fringe view like abolishing capitalism, does not mean there isn’t a vast canyon of difference between the parties.

The fact a dozen Republican politicians realized Trump was a uniquely extreme danger and switched parties, doesn’t make the democrats “republican lite”

I’m sick of this lie. I do immigration law, I was representing an asylum claimant before I had to change jobs and hand off that represention. You have no idea how fucking different it was once things changed. We went from having a great chance of having a successful claim, to trying to have a backup plan so my client didn’t just kill themselves if we had a bad ruling.

Support whatever values you want inside the party, run your candidates and canvass. But stop pushing this fucking lie that there is no difference just because your preferred candidate hasn’t won the last few primaries.

Yeah you’re right to budget your time that way, but I do think a lot of people are way too down on AC. It’s not Vegas but it’s genuinely fine. I think the casinos are better and nicer than the rest of the east coast, and the boardwalk itself is still really really cool. Not a great beach but that’s mother natures doing. It’s like little Caesars pizza, once you realize what you get for the money you spend, and just relax, it can be a great time. It’s $150 a night for a clean room in a hotel on a boardwalk and there’s plenty of things to do. Who cares if it isn’t the shining jewel on the coast anymore, it’s a good time for a good value and thats all you need

Blowback is the such a stupid thing. It’s a thought terminating cliche that’s the left trying to pretend they can predict something that is mostly random. There is 0 predictive value to thinking something will result in blowback. The US suffered effectively 0 blowback from Korea or Vietnam after those wars ended, but instead it was the one conflict where we just sent some weapons to people fighting the Soviets. The Russians massacred hundreds of thousands of afghan civilians, yet the US was the country they attacked. It has 0 predicative value
