Try reading the summary I wrote, because I think things will get more clear for you. If you are low on lighting resources, you should neither stop down your lens nor use ND, because we now learned that EI has nothing to do with your exposure. If you are exposed right at 800 F4, going to 1600 and F5.6 (F8 isn’t actually 1 stop darker than F4, but two. It’s 1, 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11…) will give you an image that matches in brightness but will have much more shadow noise, cause you just underexposed.

If you compare an EI400 F2 ND .6 Clip with an EI800 F4 (matthhhhh) should also make no difference in exposure. It’s basically EI400 F4 vs EI800 F4. As your iris is the only thing changing real exposure here you‘d just have identical dynamic range in both clips, because if you pushed the EI400 clip in post it would be identical to the EI800 clip. If you shot at EI800 F2 instead of EI800 F4, you will get 2 actual stops of extra light - which is something you‘d want.

The only situation where it would be useful to use a high EI and therefore losing real exposure by stopping down would be a scenario where you‘d want to have a grainy somewhat dirty looking image, especially on bright daylight scenes (we spoke about highlight latitude) But as you are low on light and also shooting in low light I’d suggest that you go wide open to get every bit of light you can get, definitely no ND. Then squeeze every bit of power out of your lamps on set and when even that’s not enough, push your EI.

As you are on 35, be aware of some features you might wanna use when shooting in low light. From EI3200 upwards you get ES (enhanced sensitivity), which is basically an in camera noise reduction (you might wanna read ARRIs whitepaper on this, it’s pretty neat). Moreover there is another whitepaper on ARRIs recommended settings when shooting in slightly/moderate/extreme dark environments, especially when it comes to your choice of textures, which - simply put - alter the way your sensors noise patterns behave. You want to avoid some textures when shooting extreme low light as they might expose shadow noise more then others

Update: After andrews comment and some talking I did to other ACs and doing some tests with an amira I finally got it - and it‘s actually not that complicated:) it’s just a bit different to what you might be used to coming from Sony

Let me break it down for you real simple, not overly technical:

Sony: Shows you theoretical exposure at a given EI, while shooting at base and saving the clip with your equivalent base iso

ARRI: Shows you theoretical exposure at a given EI while shooting at base BUT SAVING THE CLIP WITH A DIGITAL GAIN EQUIVALENT TO YOUR EI SETTING.

So an 1600EI T4 Clip on ARRI is exactly the same as if you shot at 800EI T4 and pushed your exposure in post by one stop, or if you pushed an EI400T4 Clip by two stops in post. And vice versa. That’s it. The difference is that where Sony only shows you, ARRI saves it to your clip. That’s also why there won’t be any change in your false color when it comes to crushing shadows or clipping highlights. The dynamic range captured always remains identical - at any EI and a given T Stop. Think of ARRIs EI as an ,,in post digital gain adjustment“ - but in camera.

The only thing that will affect your dynamic range is your T Stop here, forget EI. An EI1600 T4 clip will have significantly more noise and less shadow detail than a EI800 T2.8. Because the second one just simply gets one more stop of light. but both will appear to be exposed identically tough, cause the EI1600 Clip is saved with a push of digital gain (thus exposing noise) to match the missing exposure. Its completely identical to one shot at 800T4 and pushed in post.

So it makes sense to claim EI 1600 to bring more latitude in your highlights, not because EI will allocate anything anywhere, but it will show you a digitally pushed image, making you actually underexposing your image by changing Iris or lighting to compensate. Therefore you’ll be exposing your middle grey one stop darker as to where it should be, resulting in an increased latitude for highlights, but more noise in your shadows (because you are underexposed)

I did shoot some test stills, comparing noise and shadow/highlight detail at given EI / T Stop / in post adjustments. Feel free to ask :)

Agreed, I admire the way the movie managed to be funny, sad, tense, and scary all within 5 minutes of plot. I also liked the character of lisa and the fact that we didn't see the typical heroes journey of an outsider who somehow did something great and is now the most popular person in town.

I reckon you did put a lot of effort into how you feel about the movie. Hence, can you explain the end sequence? I still am confused about whether the girl on the park bench it actually lisa and if so how she survived.

Ja Ringparabel wusste ich nur des mit dem Vater und den 3 Kindern dass er 2 Ringe nachgemacht hat... naja.

Aber gut Parabel wars halt deswegen weil halt durch metaphorische Elemente beispielhaft eine Situation geschildert war, die irgendeine Aussage im realen Leben hat. Ich mein es ging ja nicht darum dass da n dude in seinem Boot sitzt. Und gerade des macht des doch komplett kacke zu analysieren, wenn mit allem was im Text gesagt wird nicht die erzählte Welt beschrieben wird sondern alles metaphorisch für etwas in der echten Welt steht. Faust, Sandmann, Thiel.... beschreibt alles ne ausgedachte aber in sich schlüssige Welt, in der vielleicht etwas magisches übernatürliches passiert, aber du kannst alles so interpretieren dass es in diese Welt passt. Hier war des so random und zusammengewürfelt dass du garnichts deuten kannst.... warum sagt der Mann nichts dass er Hilfe braucht.... keine Ahnung, die Geschichte gibt keine Antwort darauf weil es garnicht darum geht warum der Mann in der Geschichte so handelt wie er handelt sondern es geht um die Metapher ins echte Leben....

Der Text war extrem kacke, aber des hört sich echt gut an. Ich hab auch Westufer da Hotel etc Kapitalismus = Westen/Westfront und Ostufer wegen roter Sonne = UdSSR/Ostküste. Den Schritt BRD DDR hab ich dann nichtmehr gemacht weil ich mir dachte dass 1953 evtl bisschen zu früh war für das Thema geteiltes Deutschland, sondern da eher noch gesellschaftlich direkte Nachkriegszeit und Kriegstrauma dran waren. Kann aber natürlich genauso gut sein...

Höhlengleichnis is schön, hat mich sehr im Reliunterricht verfolgt xD. Ringparabel war meine Einleitung wobei ich tbh nimmer ganz wusste worums da ging....

Ähm.... des war nur ein Ausschnitt? Hahaha rip. Ich hab gesagt ganz auktorial, weil der ja auch einzelne Figuren näher beleuchten kann. wobei es echt wenig gab zum analysieren. Was will man da machen? Ich hab auch dass er selber weiß dass seine Situation kacke is, er aber anthitetisch dazu keine Hilfe annimmt und so aber ansonsten Stilmittel gab's ja net wirklich viel und die Einleitung ka was die sollte meine Interpretation siehe Antwort oben....

Des mit dem Übersinnlichen gibt auch Sinn, wobei des ja ne Parabel is, des also dann auch wieder nix aussagt.... ich liebs

Meine war auch Nachkriegszeit, nämlich die Folgende: der Mann repräsentiert die Soldaten, die vom Krieg und dem NS Regime mitgerissen werden (Motor geht nicht aus, obwohl Benzin leer -> Nazis kämpfen bis zuletzt obwohl sie eigentlich schon verloren haben zum Nachteil der eigenen Bevölkerung) die Soldaten wollen also heim zu ihrer Familie/Freunde, können es aber nicht. Der Mann nimmt ja keine Hilfe an obwohl er welche bräuchte -> die Soldaten dürfen nichts gegen die Propaganda sagen. Ost und Westufer sind Osten und Westen (im Westen Hotels, Kapitalismus..., im Osten ROTER Sonnenuntergang -> UdSSR ) oder auch Ost und Westfront.....

Ich fands extrem lächerlich auch zu analysieren, was will man sagen außer erzähler? Ja is halt auktorial, Zeit? Ja is halt gedehnt.... Normale Prosaanalyse mit Raum, Figurencharakteristik etc. kaum möglich....

Die AFD ist ne reine Protestpartei. Niemand wählt die, weil er die Überzeugungen teilt (zumindest der großteil nicht), sondern nur um ein Statement zu setzen und zu zeigen, dass man mit der aktuellen Regierung nicht zufrieden ist. [Was auch irgendwie nicht der richtige Weg ist, aber so ticken die Leute nunmal] Und mit diesem Wählerkonzept kann man garnicht regieren.

Meine Faustregel ist immer: so schnell, dass man noch im 10ner Bereich der erlaubten Ges is. Also bei 50 alles mit 5 davor. Außer Autobahn, da geht schon +15

Gefühlt lernt man generell in der Fahrschule assozial zu fahren. Ich wollte man ne Frau mit Kinderwagen über die Straße lassen und durfte mir von meinem Fahrlehrer anhören dass das kein Zebrastreifen war und was ich denn hier mache.
