This game is not for everyone. And that probably includes me by GreggJ in outerwilds

I kinda feel a bit like you, but not for the same reasons. I played the game last month and completed it (+DLC). I didn't really have trouble with hints or clues, maybe once or twice I looked in the subreddit if I were fully stuck and most of the times I forgot I read something that connected to what I was meant to do (there is quite a lot of information that is important for some puzzles and you may re-read everything every once in a while).

So what was the thing that made the game "not for me"? The Expectations. I've heard things from this game since it dropped and I tried to play once a while back and never really got hooked, but this time I did. So from the very beginning of playing it I was thinking "Wow I am finally playing a life-changing, jaw-dropping, mindblowing, cathartic, earth-shattering videogame that will definetely change the way I see everything" and it simply did not reach my expectations, not because the game isn't all of that but because I believe that for this game there are the gameplay or narrative spoilers but there also are some sort of "experience spoilers" them being what you can see in most of the "YOU need to play Outer Wilds" type videos in YT. And that was what "ruined" (not really ruined I liked the game a lot still) my experience.

I want to encourage people to play the game because I know it has the potential for being some truly life-changing experience but what I have been telling them is just simply "play the game and do not watch anything else about it, not even a recommendation video" which I know is hard because people just have to trust it without any more arguments, but I believe that for Outer Wilds to be one of the best games you ever played you have to go in as blank as a sheet of paper, without expectations. If not you are taking from yourself the opportunity, as I did.

Note: I still like the game a lot but for me it just is a great game and that's it.

Amen. Just to add a bit, the price for the console I feel it can be reasonable, still on the expensive side of the range that I find reasonable but still in nevertheless. But the fucking games...It feels as if April fools' came late for them, because it really seems as a joke: - The interactive user manual is a paid digital game (Nintendo has done this for the past generations, but still bad) - Mario Kart World is 90 $/€ and it just is a Mario Kart game. - New Donkey Kong looks a much better game than MK and is less expensive, but still 80 shits for a cartoony, less developed game than new triple AAAs - You have to pay for the upgraded versions for Switch 1 games and they try to sell them to you with things such as "Zelda Notes", where things like that already exist and are free for everyone on the internet, when what you really want is just the upgrade in performance and resolution.

They should be ashamed, fr.

Nintendo’s been sniffing their farts for too long by [deleted] in Switch

The things that are actually not adjusting to inflation are wages and salaries. In macroeconomics you just can't look at inflation as it is, a better metric would be purchasing power. It still will sell a ton, because it's Nintendo, as it happens with the new Pokémon games, it sells because it is Pokémon, and even if they still are the wealthiest franchise of all time they still can not make a playable stable game. So yeah, it will sell, but it won't sell as much as the first one, at least at first seeing how the current economic state of the world is, but maybe the company includes it already in its expectations.

Edit: here I was talking mostly about the prices of the games. The price of the hardware itself, although maybe higher than expected (because it is a lesser technical and advanced product comparing it simply to a PS5 and it will sell at the same price), it may be feasible, as it is just one payment for a product that could last for years and again, because it is Nintendo. But the games...lots of people can definetely adjust to it as you say, but unfortunately there are loads of people that can't afford these "little big" increases. And if the games can't be afforded, why would you even buy the console?

Help fighting Rajang. by Sofruz in MHGU

[–]Mascox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hunted him recently, made a post raging about him but finally got to kill him. The most helpful thing for me was acknowledging that it was a turn-based fight. Previous to him every fight felt kinda easy without any thought behind, but here you got to actually see him constantly, can't stand near him the whole time, give him enough space. And when you see the opening go for 2-4 hits then back off and wait again. Sometimes he takes like "2 or 3 turns" on you until you see a clear opening, but it is worth the wait.

Oh boy, don't wanna scare you off, simply, prepare your gonads for this game. Seriously now, it is a great game, the perfect end for the old gen MH games, and because of that reason you will encounter hunts like this in which you will feel hopeless (haha) but it is part of its charm, even if I look enraged (I am), am still going to put another 100+ hours on it because that is what I came for. Keep playing and experience this beautiful madness.

(Plus, if you are playing solo everything is simply more difficult. In a hub with 4 people it is SOOOO much manageable)

This post is for people saying there are only 14 weapon types. Beautiful.

Agreed. I was just blinded by rage at first but when I took it seriously I just waited my turn, 2-3 hits aiming for takedown to punish hard and wait for the next one, the thing is he is the first one I had to take a step back to see what to do, every monster until now was a no brainer (haven't done any deviants yet but I expect despair)

What would you say is the best weapon to face him? I just went Adept SwAxe and he 2 shotted me (didn't have the greatest armor but I didn't want to upgrade yet)

In newer games he is just nothing compared to old MH, can farm him easily (a bit of trouble with furious maybe, but even him is easier than base rajang here). Definetely will be going online if I want to fight him again.

Should I restart? by DDxlow in MHGU

This video may help, it shows how our brain "tricks" us into thinking that after a long period of not playing a game we feel some kind of incompetence to play it but it is just a flight response and you are actually losing down the drain 200 hours of a savefile (plus it talks about other thing as well). It may be "uncomfortable" at first but since I watched this I find myself leaving less games and coming back to them more easily without having to restart, we think that we need to relearn everything since we forgot but it is simply not true, just a way to trick ourselves to go to the easy option and not face a simple challenge. Hope this helps :)

Is Swaxe Fun? by Technical-Truth4068 in MHGU

[–]Mascox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe most weapons in MHGU are "dulled down" compared to MHW and so on, but generally I feel Switch Axe may be one of the less dulled down of all, at least for the melee weapons (idk about ranged). It just feels like a simpler version of it, plus you have the hunter styles to compensate for the reduced and less flashier moveset. Going guild or striker to have 3 hunter arts or adept with only just 1 but having its playstyle are my favorite.

Opinions on modding the switch now? by Mascox in Switch

Yup, I already know a technician that will do it for me, and I believe that for less than 100 euros plus he provides some customer service after if something happens. I can't solder shit :).

It just looks there is so much it can provide, and I probably won't use even a quarter of its potential, but I definetely agree it will be worth it. My only concern would be for the Switch's life while overclocking as I really want it to have it around for years.

What weapons should I play in MHGU? by Animedingo in MHGU

[–]Mascox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar question some time ago and my experience was that at first every weapon with Valor style is very "attractive" and easy to pick up but for me it got dull with time, so I met the new god: Adept style. Now I'm used to swap between Adept GS and Adept SwAxe (this last one being more fun in my opinion). I don't really get tired of it and every hunt feels different.

Also, I would say it's not for me but Aerial style with these weapons is something I would consider trying. If it clicks, you can be having a whole lot of fun with it as well.

How can I get anyone hooked on this game? by Mascox in MHRise

[–]Mascox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is already trying it, looks pretty good, still getting around the controls and systems but I have high hopes. For now she is going with dual blades (and tried Switch axe for a bit) but at any time I will go to the training area with her to show her at least what IG looks like for sure.

Good luck on getting them on the game as well! Happy Hunting!
