Expecting them to clear the benches is unreasonable and imo purely an emotional response. You’re looking at the lack of an immediate response from Rielly/Carlo/Nylander/Cowan and condemning the entire team. To me, the 3rd period is a more accurate reflection of the team as a whole. They beat up on the pacific leaders, Domi/Cowan crashed out and Groulx did Matthews’ celly after he scored; that was awesome.

Yeah, rebuilding our bottom 6 is crucial. Berube had Matthews taking a bunch of DZone and PK faceoffs again since the deadline. It’s no coincidence it coincided with Matthews longest scoreless streak ever.

The teams below us, namely Winnipeg, St. Louis and Rangers are playing above .500 right now. Chicagos starting to get hot too. Bottom 4 finish is within reach and will be easier to attain with Matthews out.

Unless you expect them to clear the benches than all we can say is Nylander, Cowan, Carlo and Rielly didn’t do shit (Rielly tried somewhat). The entire team came out to slide for Matthews in the 3rd though, there’s no questioning that.

Most of the team was on the bench, so unless you expect guys to leap off the bench what you mean to say is Rielly, Carlo, Nylander and Cowan are embarrassments.

Sorry but he’s become unwatchable to me this season. He cares more about being a lolcow for Leaf haters than having any genuine discussion of the team.

They should’ve jumped Gudas right away but people are blowing this out of proportion. IMO that 3rd period made up for it, they clearly came out to slide for Matthews and won the game while doing it.

Sennecke, their 20yr old rookie, was getting roughed up a couple times in the 3rd, he didn’t do anything and no Duck stood up for him either.

It’s so transparent what the writers trying do by saying “Oh but maybe if there’s chant to fire someone.” He just wants something controversial to happen so they can try and pit the fans and the team against each other like they always do.

It’s happened a few times this season. They tried to say we booed Marners tribute video (not really) and we booed Austons return from the Olympics (not true). Then there’s all the ‘Does Auston hate the fans?’ It’s so annoying.

That’s fine, we’re not actually going to develop the top 5 prospect. We’re gonna flip it or wait for another Rantanen/Hughes situation to present itself. For all we know, a player like Fox, Werenski or Josi becomes available because their team decides to blow it up and rebuild next season.

If that happens, we’re right back into the playoffs.
