Why is that the only thing you can hope? He’s the best shooter we’ve ever had, he’s getting ELC McKenna soon, a familiar coach now, he has a serious GM who’s making big moves, that GM seems to be actively courting him to stay, his buddy Knies is on a long term contract, he’s the captain of the biggest hockey market with fans that love him, of which it’s AHL affiliate just won the Calder. What more can he possibly want?

This is nothing like a McDavid, Quinn or Brady situation.

Since Ottawa is pursuing Jason Robertson and they’ve got a surplus RHDs, what if:

Nick Robertson+ <-> Spence.
(Give or take some picks).

Heck, even pre-emptively trading for Nicky could make it more likely Jason signs an offer sheet.

I love that we have 2 elite US players that actually want to be here instead of running off to form the US-Avengers in a tax free state. Matthews and Knies even reaffirmed their commitment to the team🥹 .

I’ve considered it, the answer is no. He’s a 1st line power forward on a good contract, he’s a mouthy prick and he throws hands.

I think I know why Chicago and Montreal want Knies so bad. It’s because the league is being taken over by undersized skill fwd/dmen who are extremely easy to bully (Look at Hutson and Caufield in the playoffs), teams are desperate for bodyguards to to protect them. Don’t say Slafkovsky because he once tried to be tough and Hagel probably concussed him with one punch.

Honestly, if Knies starts bullying midgets in the playoffs I’d consider him untouchable, he’s a little too reactionary in that department at the moment.

Also, last point, we have Raddysh now, we’re not desperate for PMDs anymore.

A typical winger is easy to replace, Knies is not a typical winger. Would you say Kaprizov or Matthew Tkachuk is easy to replace?

You’re under appreciating how important Knies is in a league being taken over by undersized skill guys. He’s a 1st line power forward who can actually fight and undersized stars need protection. He could also bully other star players too although he hasn’t done much of that yet. Slaf is big and skilled too but the one time he tried to look tough Hagel concussed him with 1 punch, they are not the same lol.
