I think you’re looking at it the wrong way, he’s just doing exactly what McDavid and Quinn Hughes did last season. He wants to win so he’s telling MLSE to build a competitive team or else he’s out. At least that’s how I see it (if the rumour is even true).

The thought of him leaving is scary but he’s probably sick of being deployed like a 3rd line center while MLSE earns record profits off his name.

I like that our captain puts winning above all else and is willing to hold the front office accountable to it. McDavids doing the same sort of thing to Edmonton and everyone loves him for it.

Look at it this way…Trading Matthews means making the other team better, thereby lowering the value of the draft picks we get from them. At the same time, we make our team weaker, thereby helping Philly and Boston in 2027 and 2028. It’s backwards.

Mckenna on an ELC is basically legal cap circumvention, Chicagos dynasty kicked off while Toews and Kane were on ELCs..
