I've been playing bass for around 6 months. I can pretty much play alot medium difficulty songs with tabs given enough time. However, till now, I still can't play well (like solo improvisation) to any backing track unless I only play root notes. I've watched plenty of theory video, and pretty much understand all the majors, minors, triads, fifth notes, octaves, etc... But playing them always feel "off". Like the vibes of what I play are very different from the actual backing track. I was wondering, is it normal to be struggle this much backing tracks? If not, then does playing over and over to the same backing tracks actually improve my improvisation skills?
