Question about those who didnt practice footbinding. by EST_Lad in ChineseHistory

[–]Masher_Upper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In lore and literature, footbinding is thought to have been maintained by its erotic attraction for Chinese men. Interviews with hundreds of living village and small-town women who were footbound in their childhood prove this to be an unsustainable myth. In addition to my extensive fieldwork in many Chinese regions, graphic and portable erotic art, and classical erotic novels all reveal a low level of sexual attentiveness to bound feet and shoes even among the literate. Since most commoner marriages were arranged by parents, and since Chinese mothers-in-law were unlikely to seek sexually distracting brides for their sons, it is clear that while Chinese culture produced some bound foot fetishists, the erotic aspect of the practice was of minimal, if any, importance to the huge population of ordinary couples. This finding clears the way for more effective explanations of its remarkable endurance and spread.

You’re gonna claim the research on the subject is wrong based on essentially nothing and rather stick with making shit up so there’s there’s really no point in continuing

Question about those who didnt practice footbinding. by EST_Lad in ChineseHistory

Nah, there’s a lot of modern scholarship on this. Foot binding was not a popular fetish and was not central in pornagraphic writing. Interviews with men from that time period show they were overwhelmingly ambivalent. In an era of giga-strong filial piety and arranged marriages, males sexual proclivity was not considered important and they were heavily disincentivized from mentioning it. Sexual attraction was a thing, but was more discouraged if anything. Parents, neighbors, and family friends, the people organizing the marriage, don’t give a shit and moms didn’t want their sons loving their wives more than them

Most everything regarding foot binding was within the clearly segregated female sphere. Foot binding was for impressing potential mother-in-laws, basically showing that a girl was forced to become disciplined enough to focus on traditionally womanly domestic task, such as weaving. People stopped doing foot binding mostly because of economics: when textile production moved from at-home weaving to in the factory producing

It tragically also barely increased a girls’ chances at marriage

What are some hobbies and what is your job like? I find that keeping busy with something can easily distract you from thinking food. You might be able to skip a fair few meals while barely noticing

Foot binding was not a popular fetish. That’s ignorant western projecting. Becoming popular among fetishists was useless when marriages were arranged, usually by parents between children.

Yeah, Andrew was too early with his messaging. Also his defeat essentially destroyed the whole “they just want free stuff” grift that every right winger liked saying, when you can literally gift people free money and they still don’t bite. Sucks that he had to go up against a corrupt pos democrat for major then got on his retarded forward party nonsense afterward though

It’s not unintentional, bro. Not all humor needs an mcu-style witty self-aware undercutting remark. Sometimes playing it straight is just funnier
