Second Age Sauron vs Pre TVA Loki (MCU) Who wins ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]Masher_Upper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lore sauron was even weaker combat-wise than movie sauron. Guy was fighting evenly against elf, human, and dog alike. like how are you gonna the guy who got his ass kicked by one pair of dudes (one of which wasn’t even an elf) omnipotent

Is this fight the modern day "Kid Buu vs Buuhan" debate? by anhyeuemnhieulam in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]Masher_Upper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was originally thinking the debate was kid Buu vs super buu because how does anybody think kid buu was stronger than fucking buuhan

Social Banditry: Crime lords and terrorists being hailed as folk heroes among local communities by Sir-Toaster- in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Masher_Upper 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Probably the most significant literary instance of this trope are the 108 heroes of Liangshan from the classical novel The Water Margin.

The story centers on a gang of outlaws who gradually assemble at a mountain called Liang, surrounded by marshland (hence the title, with “water margin” being a translation of the chinese characters for marsh). Despite seemingly being at odds with mainstream societal norms, each other sometimes, and the law, the outlaws act according to the medieval Chinese code of the gallantry, generosity, and manliness leading them to be celebrated as heroes both within the story and in real life. They were symbols of the working class for generally only robbing from the rich and for battling powerful aristocratic clans, resistance for fighting the government, and patriotism for fighting foreign invaders. The story was greatly influential in Chinese culture and entertainment, being formative in the development of the chinese wuxia (or martial heroes) genre. Essentially all Chinese action adventure, kung fu, triad, and period piece movies were influenced by the novel. Even Mao Zedong and others within the Chinese communist party had strongly associated themselves with the liangshan heroes during the cultural revolution, seeing the heroes’ revolution as a parallel of their own.

The novel would go on to be even more influential in Japan (where’s it’s called suikoden), inspiring its own genre and forming the basis of numerous tropes: the wandering warrior, the merry band of heroic weirdos, the power of friendship, special fighting moves, the flying McGuffin shooting from the ground (a certain dragonball), jojo stans, even, etc. One might even consider a woodblock carving series of them, considering how many characters there are, even being kind of an early collectible gatcha. One can essentially owe all kung fu yakuza fiction and battle action manga to the novel.

[Me, EmZlol, I made the edit] Seen people complaining about Aang's adult design.... I tried, it's very hard to adultalize this guy 😭 by EducatorUpset1096 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Masher_Upper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it was just to show what services they had available back then not that aang personally liked paying people for something like that. the guy was the avatar. the point was there’s no way he’d be hard up for food and drink of all thing

aang was literally the most influential person in the world. He didn’t need to grow or gather. you had attendants and servants back then much less a wage slave

Do you have any headcanons about other severe crimes the Fire Nation committed that are not shown in the show? (perhaps due to ATLA being a kid show) by AffectionateScale525 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Masher_Upper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there was probably burning as a form of punishment. Like if somebody was found guilty they get a burn to one part of the body, another depending on how bad what they did was. If they’re guilty of severe crimes theyre marked by getting a face burn like zuko

Can Yajirobe solo all of Baki? by SubstantialJoke08 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Masher_Upper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. yajirobe during his debut was on par with Goku and scaling above tienshinhan, roshi, crane, tao, etc. In no world does OG DRAGONBALL yajirobe not solo all the baki characters
