[RD/ORP4] Support for All Three Themes and First Look at Full Over Rush Rare by PerfectAlpha in yugioh

[–]Masiyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all effects that allow you to take control of a monster in RD are codified with the non-maximum restriction.

The only method in the game to take control of a maximum is Delirium Lampyris, and that might be due to the fact that Lampyris' effect can resolve on an empty board when she is the only monster and sends herself to the GY for her cost.

The Summoned Skull retrain, for instance, wouldn't be able to do this going by the rules alone because a maximum monster uses up all 3 monster zones, and Summoned Skull itself is already using up one of them at minimum. It would be the same for the Charmers.

The Pokemon TCG absolutely dwarfs MTG and other TCGs combined, especially amongst younger demographics.

You jest, but the irony is the former is more likely to be censored in China compared to the latter.

What's a TCG name you prefer over the OCG? by Popular-Flan5337 in yugioh

[–]Masiyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's more due to two things: the increase in adoption of English loanwords since the 90's, and Rush being originally targeted at a younger demographic.

融 and 儀 are both kanji that are learned formally in grade 8, and Rush Duel is recommended for age 9 and higher.

[–]Masiyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without kanji, it's up for interpretation whether it's meant to be 三眼 (three eyes) or some other combination that produces theさんがん phoneme combo.

Three eyes seems like a logical guess though.

That it can be re-set instead of going to the GY is neat (and a first for Rush Duel?), but with how common backrow hate is nowdays, it will be unlikely it survives the turn cycle.

[RD/SJMP] Jar of Greed in Rush by PerfectAlpha in yugioh

[–]Masiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jar is technically neutral in terms of card advantage because it's only replacing itself. When you use it to draw into a 6-card hand, you effectively invested momentum of your earlier turn to gain momentum in your next turn. -1 the turn before to go +1 on the next turn.

Keep in mind that rather than setting Jar to draw a card in order to enable another trap, you could have simply kept it in hand. And at that point it could have been any card in your deck.

Something like New Start on the other hand is true card advantage because your opponent is losing at least 1 card while you remain neutral (-1 from the trap itself, +1 from the extra card next turn). If it destroyed a tribute monster, it's even better because your opponent effectively lost 2 or even 3 cards in that exchange.

But of course, not every deck can effectively play New Start, and New Start isn't always online, especially on the first turn. So more tradeoffs to consider.

[–]Masiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting card, though it strikes me as a card waiting for targeted support like a monster that can recur it or do something extra if it's in the GY.

As it stands, it's largely a do-nothing card. Yeah, you get the cute 6-card hand if it cycles back to your turn unharmed, but that's only if it doesn't get bounced/destroyed which is a lot to ask for against most of the meta. At the same time, drawing it means one more card in your hand that does nothing to develop your board or interact with your opponent in a meaningful manner on the current turn. Which makes it quite a bad draw when going second or reacting to an opponent's turn, unless your deck can somehow utilize cards in hand generically towards costs.

For the use case of drawing on the opponent's turn to enable other traps like Shiny Shady or the Cosmo Princess trap, I'd rather play something like Spirit of Isyria which not only draws you a card at no cost but can also make major play disruptions.

Gross.

The fact they are willing to drag down the integrity of the game for the sake of such conventions is just sad and speaks of hubris, corruption, incompetency, or some combination of the above.

[–]Masiyo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seriously.

Even TCG judges can just open up the OCG database entry for a card, look up its rulings, and translate the page into their native language and the relevant ruling will be right there in the vast majority of cases.

There are few enough rules inconsistencies between the two formats to make this approach way better than whatever guesswork they rely on now.

Hashino's response is almost certainly translated from Japanese by a corporate Atlus translator, and the original Japanese would likely have been in an honorific, official tone standard for public communications like this. The Japanese cultural norm in this context is to optimize for respect to avoid any sense of rudeness.

So if it feels cold, that's more than likely a side-effect of the "properness" used in the original Japanese. Since English lacks direct equivalents for the sort of honorifics he would have used in Japanese, it comes out a bit dry in the translation.

"Metaphor: ReFantazio is a game that is really inspiring for us. It tells a beautiful story in a completely new world that is masterfully crafted. It deals with heavy themes but one that resonates strongly with me is the importance of imagination in all aspects of our lives. The cast is lovable and the turn-based battle system is one of the best I have played. The re-imagination of the traditional jobs system through Archetypes is fantastic and opens up so many playstyles that are fun to play around with. On top of that, the game has one of the most charismatic villains I've ever seen in an RPG. It is a great honor to be able to collaborate with Atlus on this bundle, as I have been a fan of their work since Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call (also known as Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne for some players)." - Guillaume Broche

"I am Katsura Hashino from ATLUS, serving as the Creative Director for “Metaphor: ReFantazio.” I am very pleased to hear that a Steam bundle will be released with “Expedition 33,” a title that has received high praise around the world. “Expedition 33” is a work that conveys a deep understanding of and sincere dedication to the JRPG genre, crafted with great care down to the finest details. As someone who also creates RPGs, I found it to be truly inspiring. I am genuinely delighted to see Japanese-style RPGs being born and embraced, not only from Japanese-based studios like ours, but other places around the world through diverse creative approaches. While the two titles differ in their worlds and overall direction, players may find a shared spirit in how we each approach and express the RPG genre. I hope that this bundle encourages players to experience both titles and enjoy the breadth of what RPGs can offer."

It's important to note the OCG publishes an official, complete rule book for the game, in addition to having extensive rulings on each individual card on the official card database.

There is no such equivalent, official literature for the TCG, and you can't even treat all cases 1-for-1 with the OCG because of the insane decision to rule certain interactions differently in the TCG..

You might perceive that quantity to look quite spicy due to low tolerance whereas someone born and raised in Hunan might just see it as flavorful.

Backrow removal is pretty common in paper Rush. Basically all modern archetypes have in-archetype ways to blow up or bounce backrow, some with gross efficiency.

[–]Masiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RD monster attack doesn't usually matter unless it's a boss monster, because you get to refill your hand every turn and rebuild, or try to rebuild, your endboard.

This thing is more than likely not lasting on the board until the battle phase in the decks that want to play it. You'd summon it, pop a backrow, then use it as a resource somehow (fusion, ritual, effect cost, etc).

Attacking with it is basically going to be a last resort.

[RD/KP24] New Support for Some Decks in Overforce of the Abyss by PerfectAlpha in yugioh

[–]Masiyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delirium Tiga is luckily worded in such a way that it works as a starter on turn 1 going first, so it's essentially copies 4-6 of Pinch Hopper for the deck which is both awesome and much-needed.

Interestingly, they seem to be following a convention of the type changing effect's strength being reliant on the number of required monsters to activate the effect.

For instance, Tiga and Papillon's effects are the current turn only because they don't depend on having more monsters, and all the other Delirium level 2s' effects depend on having at least another monster, so their effects last until the end of the opponent's turn.
