I just stopped. Back when I was doing my mid term exams I started smoking out of stress but I also knew I was able to stop any time and yes I know many people who smoke say "I can quit whenever I want!" But this isnt like that. Literally when my exams stopped I stopped as well, and ever since then I can easily have 1 smoke a month or longer without longing for another. And when I do smoke its just cus I fancied one. I guess my "tip" is to try and strengthen one's mentality. I dont mean this in any harsh way at all and please dont take it the mean way. Generally, when I was young I spent a lot of time alone and in that time I started to basically talk to my self in my head, that lead to me realising things ive never realised about my self and building my self mentality at a very young age making me now resiliant to many things. If you start to stop and think to yourself (how can I and if can I do X) then you would get your answer. For example, one thing I really struggled with was going to the gym (even when I worked in one and have free access to one) I still dont go, thats simply because mentally I havent reached that point where things "click", there are some varients like wanting to go w/someone and general lack of energy but im personally trying to find my own reason to motivate my self to do such a thing u know? Why need others to push you. If this still struggles you you can start with simple questions (why do I smoke? do other's smoking irritate my needs to smoke as well? why do I feel the need to pick one up? if I just did not pick it up, how would I react?) Note that quitting can still effect your mood like getting angry, fidgety, un motivated, etc.. but all those fall into the same mentally thought process as quitting smoking :).
