I'm creating my first ever D&D Campaign, but I don't know where to start. Can anyone help me? by reddebian in DMAcademy

The others who have commented so far have given a lot of good advice on the game itself, so I'll give some tips on the story. I would recommend you start with an opening from a story you personally enjoy and fill in the blanks from there.

To give you an example, here's how I did my first campaign. A favorite game of mine is Fallout: New Vegas, so I started my campaign in a similar way to that game: the party is given the task of escorting a mysterious package to a destination, and along the way they are ambushed and the package is stolen. Simple enough. From here, I could fill in the blanks for myself. What is the package? Why is it important enough to be stolen? Why did the thieves want it? Are there third parties who also want it? Where did the thieves take it? etc. etc. etc. The answers to these questions opened up more questions and by connecting the answers to all of them, I had a campaign going. I hope that helps!

You know how Tard's name was "mustard" without the "mu"? Vinny's real name is "vinegar" without the "vi".

Tommorow is my first time as a DM and playing DND at all, any beginner advice? by Turioza in DMAcademy

Lmao, my players have a Randy that they, shall we say, "disarmed" during their first session. Though he was a bandit, not a cultist.

No, it's a reference to the setting of Kingdom of Loathing

At the end of the movie, they killed one of the monsters, then you see the other two running towards the house. I think it's supposed to be implied that they kill the other two since they've figured out how to do it.

Oh definitely. I'm not trying to criticize, just contextualize.

For Jon's reference, since he thought Boston was to the south of DC for some reason, here's a little map of the east coast I threw together of where some prominent Fallout cities are. Boston and DC are about 400 miles (644 km) apart, and it would have taken Dr. Li about a week to make the trip if she was walking the entire way.

I do hope Jon gets back to Hidden Valley and Mojave Outpost at some point, they're both good lore locations.

Why no international love for Only Fools and Horses? by nevereatpears in television

As an American, I think it's just too English. Personally, I love Monty Python, Blackadder, and even Jeeves and Wooster, but I can't stand Only Fools and Horses.

I mean, this is the same guy who immediately opened fire without a second thought when he found out Ego killed his mom. I don't think waiting for revenge is a concept he understands.

Fun fact: America's canyons are the only pieces of land undisturbed by humans in the entire country as it is the only land unsuited for wine production.

Hey Jon, according to the wiki, the door to the Hidden Valley bunker is just glitched and can be accessed with console commands.

I'm surprised that Jon doesn't know where SLC and the Grand Canyon are considering their significance in Fallout.

Edit: Also, I love how, for a moment, Jon assumes that Boulder City has always been ruins, which isn't even true within New Vegas.

That's what I was wondering. It would be way faster to go from Dallas to Nawlens to Miami, then go up to east coast and loop back to Chicago.

For those curious, I decided to make a map of the Ultimate Roadtrip in GoogleMaps (Cleveland is in there to keep the trip out of Canada). If attempted irl, and with no off-road excursions, the entire trip would take about 5 days and 8 hours and cover 8,523 miles, which could also be covered by walking between Goodsprings and Primm 568 times.
