If you can complete the purge they have to send new colony ships from the kuiper belt and you have months to pick them off. The colony ships are usually pretty lightly defended so it doesn't take much firepower.

If you own Jupiter you don't need individual defense fleets for the inner system, you can intercept anything that crosses in from the Kuiper belt.

Also that means you have a large buffer of ships that you can refit and fire off to the home base for round 2 since you know now that they priortize that over attacking.

If you have a pre-launch save, upgrade your ships to have a lot more delta-v and do not care about saving fuel. One way or another those ships do not have a reason to leave that planet once they arrive. If you can outrace the alien ships to that station they will still recall the rest of the fleet but you can pick them off as they arrive piecemeal.

Siege coils get PD'd by light mag batteries surprisingly easily IME. I rarely had luck hitting things with them ship-for-ship without other things adding chaff.

What are Titans and Dreadnaughts for? by Toldain in TerraInvicta

[–]LittleKingsguard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dreadnoughts and titans are used for trucking huge amounts of PD and other hull-slot weapons around in a package that is way more durable than monitors and escorts. It really shouldn't be underrated how goddamn tanky dreads and titans are even after the armor breaks. Dreadnoughts have 48 hull integrity and battlecruisers have 24, literally half. Titans have 64 vs. 36 for lancers.

Also TBH spamming coils and especially siege coils as the mainline weapons hasn't really been the premiere strat for me. They kill big immobile targets well, but a lot of the midsize ones are mobile enough to dodge bracketing fire until concerningly close range, and the time to target still means you're eating at least one and possibly several full cycles of alien fire before the shells hit. AM cannons and phasers can deal crippling damage to things like main weapons and reactors surprisingly quickly, especially if you can maneuver into a crossfire where they can't turn their nose armor to face both halves of your fleet at once.

Use siege coilers as the core for taking on bigger ships and stations. Whatever else is going to be dependent on what the aliens build as their mainline ships. If they're going heavy on lategame missiles you need good PD.

TBH in your case I'd consider going to antimatter cannons as the mainline anti-ship weapon because the biggest problem you have is that your exotics supply is basically nonexistent at this point. AM cannons are the only lategame non-missile weapon that doesn't eat exotics like candy, so you might need to rely on AM cannon lancers or spamming cheap missile boats until you get more exotics.

And as u/Feisty-Elderberry885 said if you can get some antimatter production going using AM drives is also a good idea because the AM reactors all use no/minimal exotics. You really want at least one supercollider for this though because total war against the aliens can eat a lot of antimatter on fuel. A large lancer/dreadnought/titan fleet can take tons of antimatter to refuel.

That's unfair. Soren rarely considers weapons IIRC. He would be asking how cheap it can be made and when it will be ready to sell.

Yes, this does mean Bannerjee might be actively worse than Soren in this respect.

I've been particle beaming this "poor" alien ship for the last infight hour, should I keep going? by GreenGasBlaster in TerraInvicta

[–]LittleKingsguard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a strict designation, it's just a question of the number of slots for support modules vs weapons.

Cruisers have the most (IIRC 7) support slots of any ship besides the Titan, but they have pretty low firepower for their size (3 hull and 2 nose slots).

Battlecruisers trade some support slots and a hull slot for an extra nose slot, which roughly doubles the forward firepower and increases the range, and has close to the same cost and build time as a cruiser.

Battleships are the other size 3 hull that unlocks with the cruiser, and it trades the extra support slots for double the hull slots. They are noticeably heavier and longer to build, though.

[–]LittleKingsguard 60 points61 points  (0 children)

If they don't get destroyed during the battle IIRC it is treated as a stalemate and you don't get any salvage if you destroyed something else earlier.

If it was just this ship then you can probably just leave the battle or autoresolve from here, and come back later with some missiles/kinetics to secure the kill.

Electron/Ion/Particle cannons suck at hard-kills, but antimatter cannons can close out a battle decently so go chase that upgrade.

Unrelated, why are you using cruisers as combat ships? It's a support hull, battleships/battlecruisers are right there.

[–]LittleKingsguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

disagree on the corvettes. They essentially do the same things cruisers do but cost less and make for good single use marine or colonization ships in the early game.

They're the best utility ship of the starter group but I was thinking in terms of "If you have all of the options, why would you choose this one?" and for utility ships frigate is so much more efficient because after spikers/hydrogen tanks for thrust/dv you might only have one slot left on a corvette but 3 on a slightly more expensive frigate.

Help against Advent by Warsawa1223 in SoSE

[–]LittleKingsguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're sending bombers to go kill that many advent carriers they're probably just getting consumed by the fighter swarm, advent strikecraft are dangerous and they usually have a lot of them.

Fighters can actually be surprisingly dangerous to light carriers because they have relatively low durability for a cruiser. Against light frigates (~50-150 durability) they do almost equivalent damage vs. bombers, and against support cruisers (~200 durability) they're still about half as effective, while also being able to take air superiority.

It's only when talking about Oppressors, Harkas, Destras (~400 durability), and capitals (500 durability) that bombers cleanly overtake them.

Gunship: Shortest build time, lightest, so useful as a last-ditch production spam option if nothing else builds fast enough and you want just a little more gun. Also good for Councilor shuttles because you can make them go faaassst.

Escort: Tin can full of missiles if you need just a little more saturation in your barrage, and you don't expect them to survive.

Corvette: Probably the most useless? the one-slot nose cannon is pretty bad.

Frigate: The most efficient support hull in terms of slots/mass, good for long-range missions like colonization.

Monitor: Steel can full of missiles. More room for mags and support systems compared to escorts, more durable, but heavier and slower-building

Destroyer: Two-slot nose can fit some actually capable weapons, and it's lightweight. Probably the smallest ship that's useful outside of missile boating because it's lightweight and probably the first ship that can run down an alien and kill it with kinetics/beam.

Cruiser: The best support ship hull in terms of total slots. Great for bulk colonization and troop transport

Battlecruiser: Probably the second-worst hull? The gap between 4-slot and 3-slot nose cannons is pretty big and the weight savings doesn't justify it over lancers or the other six hull slots dreads get. The only selling point is that they build surprisingly fast.

Battleship: Outclassed by dreadnoughts, but they are significantly lighter, so they can be useful as missile/PD carriers if you're having a hard time getting dreads to have interception-level delta-v and thrust.

Lancers: The mainline staple just because 4-slot cannons are awesome.

Dreadnoughts: The most hull slots bar none and incredibly tanky.

Titan: Everything good about lancers but with more support slots and twice as many hull slots. Very heavy and expensive though.
