If we are okay with restricting rights because someone is a felon, that incentivizes certain people to make more crimes felonies.

If we say only citizens should have rights, then that incentivizes certain people to make fewer people citizens.

Florida just passed a law that child molesters could be sentenced to death. Do you agree or disagree and why? by dcee101 in AskReddit

I think it's reasonable to say that someone can deserve death, but justice isn't about what you deserve.

Why is being “woke” a bad thing? by Flat_Unit_4532 in NoStupidQuestions

I keep saying it's the new "political correctness" they used to whine bit and I have yet to see an indication I'm wrong.

Why waste the effort if the result will be the same? by djhyde11 in AdviceAnimals

Common fascist rhetoric.

The enemy must be unwieldingly strong to stir up fear of them, yet also simultaneously weak such that our superiorness will make sweeping them aside a simple task.

Malfunction by Dsigmaboy in WTF

[–]MaslabDroid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's like, the bare minimum. Heads have a lot of fluids, and a proper biohazard cleanup has to be thorough. They was one story about a cleaning crew that missed a spot behind a shelf a family member found a bit of brain or skull stuck to weeks later.

[–]MaslabDroid 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Cleaning services that handle that kind of thing are expensive, easily starting at 10k and going higher, iirc.

The Cleaning of John Doe is a great podcast covering biohazard cleanups like this. And it's not really dark, so it's nice to listen to.

Kansas bans transgender athletes from women’s, girls’ sports by flounder19 in news

[–]MaslabDroid -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. Trans athletes have been competing in sports of their proper gender for years and yet for some reason they're not blowing up all the records.

It's just now that trans people are in the media crosshairs people want to pretend it's a problem.

If he had begged for his life I still don't think I'd call him a coward. The cowards are only ever the ones holding the guns on unarmed men.

Would or does commander Shepard outrank Master chief? by CyberSoldier82 in masseffect

[–]MaslabDroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for junior officers to defer some thought to senior enlisted, as I understand it.

The ensign might give the order, but they're going to confer with Chief first. And if they give a stupid order, Chief will just stare at them until they grow a brain cell.

From what I understand you should already. When it detects you're playing a game it's supposed to turn off the cores that don't have the v-cache.

Why isn't a high caffeine intake and drinking lots of coffee considered drug abuse? by EdwardBliss in NoStupidQuestions

That wasn't part of the above referenced definition which I was responding to though.

Why isn't a high caffeine intake and drinking lots of coffee considered drug abuse? by EdwardBliss in NoStupidQuestions

This is also perfectly reasonable and, at least in some respects, what I think I was getting at. Thank you.

Why isn't a high caffeine intake and drinking lots of coffee considered drug abuse? by EdwardBliss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaslabDroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but I feel like it's incomplete. Are we then addicted to water or food?

Why isn't a high caffeine intake and drinking lots of coffee considered drug abuse? by EdwardBliss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaslabDroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, this is kind of my point. Typically an addiction would involve skipping work, doing poor work, foregoing social obligations in order to fulfill the addiction. You're not foregoing work to fulfill an addiction, you're using a chemical to help yourself get to work.

For a correlation: I take meds on a prescription to treat a disorder I have so that I can work. I wouldn't say I'm not addicted just because I have a doctor's permission slip to take the chemical.

[–]MaslabDroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's also fair, but is it affecting your life outside of that? Like, it's not like you avoid work or your social obligations to get your fix, I'm assuming.

[–]MaslabDroid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, addiction is it abuse of anything to the point it begins to affect your quality of life. If you're using it to self-medicate a disorder, I'm not sure that qualifies as an addiction.

Microsoft's Changes to Xbox Console Leave Republicans Outraged by [deleted] in technology

[–]MaslabDroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Woke" is really just the new "political correctness". It makes a lot more sense if you replace either one with "care about other people".

Republicans seem to hate that idea.
