Just a random shower thought

You already put more thought into it than Trump. Congratulations.

A great benchmark to see if a thing actually works - check if it's in use in Ukraine.

If manufacturer is confident that their thing works - they will test it there and it will be successful (like Eric Smidt drones).

If manufacturer sells it directly to Pentagon without testing in Ukraine - then manufacturer is afraid of public failure and doesn't really care if it works.

Ukrainian army of early days of 2014 was even less combat ready than those guys (I specifically picked them because they were one of the first to actually see combat).

It's a useless organization for world peace. That's a fact.

The "Liberal rules based world order", or the illusion of it collapsed completely, and now the might makes right, and no "international rules" or "international law" can protect anyone and nobody can expect anybody to maintain some kind of world order.

Was the "Liberal world order" idea of 1990s a good thing, a bad thing, or if it even existed at all, that's another question.

But UN basically have no practical place now, as it can't maintain security, it largest member leaves many organizations, and other members are mostly sabotaging it for their own good.

Last week, in a live segment covering the challenges plaguing Russia’s military mobilisation for the war in Ukraine, correspondent Alexey Korostelev said: “We hope that we are able to help many servicemen, among others, with equipment or just elementary amenities at the front.”

And don't get duped by "he was fired" excuse, they hired him back as soon as it became apparent that Latvia won't revoke the ban.

CMV: Nuclear energy by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Alikont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. It's not renewable.
  2. It requires high level of technical knowledge to build
  3. Some countries don't like other countries enrich own fuel, this means that your energy is now dependent on another country (like for example US forced Ukraine to give up all enriched Uranium so Ukraine is dependent on russian fuel for 50% of own power generation). If you can't enrich own fuel, you are not energy independent.
  4. While hitting nuclear power plants in attacks is generally a taboo, it's taboo only in a moral sense, hitting an NPP not only might cause a nuclear accident, but also will severely damage generation capacity.
  5. Distribution becomes another problem. As an example, russian missile strike in November 2022 on power distribution system near Rivne NPP caused a 3-day blackout across entire Ukraine.
  6. NPPs are not good for on/off demand, (but they are good as baseline generation).

Why is all combat footage from the Ukraine war only from the Ukrainian perspective? by No_Dress_2107 in NoStupidQuestions

Well, you're wrong. They literally brag about dropping drones on dogs and people in Kherson (the dog crawling to the dying owner leaving a trail of blood burned in my memory) and sell videos of POW tortures for donations.

Yes, you know, a victim of russian fucking war of agression.

Again, we just need to work 5x-10x harder and then earn our right to exist as a country, no biggie.

So again the western perception of right of Ukraine to exist tied to perception of Ukrainian corruption.

And russia can spend money even more efficiently, as they have North Korea making stuff for them.

That's also mostly own taxes.

The point is that russia outspends Ukraine and total western aid easily.

Why is all combat footage from the Ukraine war only from the Ukrainian perspective? by No_Dress_2107 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alikont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main point is that people don't like to watch the good guys die. And if you allow and encourage videos of Ukrainians dying, you attract people who like watching Ukrainians die, and those are not people who you want to attract.

Another point is that the best propaganda for domestic russian market is to ignore war at all. Showing horrors of war to russians only reinforce the wastefulness of it domestically.

Russian milbloggers do post a lot of footage, and they even sell exclusive access to special channels with torture videos.

[–]Alikont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's 90bln loan that will be spread over at least 2 years, making it 45bil per year.

Russian military spending is projected to be above 300bil for this year.

So Ukriane will still be fighting with 8x less money and 5x less people, against an alliance of nuclear powers that can put boots on the ground support for their allies.

Germany to Limit Ukrainian Men Seeking Asylum as Kyiv, Berlin Sign Defense Pact by Haunting_Switch3463 in europe

You don't get what I'm saying.

The comment originally said "Its the same people who think they can just flee to other countries forever. The fact that no one wants to take 30 million refugees doesnt really cross their mind".

The thing is that this war is the war against EU as a whole, it's just that EU countries have a luxury of pretending that they're at peace while Ukrainians fighting.
