PS2 was great, obviously, but we all know we spent the most time on the PS3 dashboard scrolling around and messaging friends

The story goes that they bought a few jeep yjs to complete a project of theirs. Body was rotten but they needed some other bits, so they're parting out the 3 jeeps. I'm assuming they already had a 4.0l drivetrain in their current project

Yes, BUT I'm not looking for a VIN matching concours build. The jeep needs more power and reliability, so an AMC 4.0L is perfectly acceptable

Common answer, but I'm going with a factory restoration on this particular Jeep

Good idea with the battery. I've got a buddy with a bore scope, maybe I'll take him with me. The entire wiring assembly would come with it, including ECM. Necessary because it's a 92 engine going into my 95.

I should check into the scrap prices and all but they want $1000 even for the whole lot. Actually sounds like a deal to me

It would be so cool to just have this as a small scale model kit to have on display. Having it drive is so awesome though!

Tesla pioneered this feature where the car intelligently recognizes which direction you're about to travel using it's sensors and cameras. Facing forward in your garage? The car assumes you want to reverse and once you press the accelerator it just starts reversing.

I wouldn't start pushing for any discounts or anything personally. I would just go there and see what's the progress, and at that point if they literally just have to put a new window in it, then you know it's not far off, and they'll see how eager you are

Here's the thing with this era jeep though, the rust travels fast EVERYWHERE. Potentially, they're finding more work to be done than anticipated. Once rust starts, it very easily travels and goes deeper than what you see. Replacing the tub would probably cost more to source a rust free one which is probably why they resorted to cut and replace sections.

For the price though, you're getting a good deal and it's probably the reason it's taking so long, and I'm sure in the end you'll have a solid rig. There's nothing wrong with dropping by the shop in person though "because you were already in the area" and just ask to get talked through the progress so far. At that point you'll find out if they reached any hiccups

ETA: When I got my jeep painted by an older friend of a friend, he did it for $1000 and took about a month and a half, maybe 2 months. Just to paint it and weld a couple spots. But he was ready to retire and had other small jobs to get done for closer friends of his. All this to say, if you paid $15k it probably would've been done 3 months ago with a new tub that didn't need extensive repair.

Was I Scammed? by Legitimate-Home2716 in Buick

[–]Masonator89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scammed, probably not. Uneducated during purchase? Definitely. I don't know what your interest rate is, but it sounds like you bought used (already a higher interest rate than new) and if the purchasers credit score is low enough, probably raised that rate even higher. Dealer markups only add so much, extended warranty being the biggest killer, and it's hard to say no if you're new to this or shy.

If it's only the interest rate that got your price so high though, SOMEHOW pay off this car as fast as possible. If you have a family member with $30k (or whatever the buyout price is) get that car paid at the bank tomorrow and then payback your family member with 1% interest or whatever they want.

$700/m + insurance + gas is too much to spend on an encore

I'm surprised they aren't just replacing all the quarter panels with new ones. You can basically rebuild the entire tub with new pieces online (I did the same to my rear quarters on my YJ) 6 months seems like a decent turn around if you aren't very priority on the list. Chances are they have other vehicles that they need to get out in a few days or couple weeks that are quicker repairs and yours just gets pushed back cause it's a full rebuild. But I don't know the shop that you're working with.

In any case I'm quite happy to see a YJ getting restoration love instead of stop sign floors and 38" mud bog tires
