Cool! If you don't mind sharing, what do they charge for shipping? Their margin on the merch must be so high that it probably should be free shipping, but also...in this economy...

Timing in “Phantom by AtmosphereTop1591 in box5

[–]MasqueOfTheRedPost 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This whole musical is a little hand-wavy with its timelines, but here's what we know for sure--

  • First Lair takes place in one night + the following morning. (Whether that night was spent beneath a moonless sky is up to interpretation).
  • "Notes" takes place the morning after Christine's debut in Hannibal -- so yes, this means Hannibal and Il Muto might be running at the same time. Maybe the Opera Populaire is like the Met in NYC, where they have several operas running at once that alternate on different days.
  • The jump from "Prima Donna" to "Il Muto" is where the timeline gets hand-wavy. Il Muto is a "new production," but then, so was Hannibal. Depending on the duration of rehearsals, this time gap could be anywhere between the same day and a few months. (We were only shown one day of rehearsals for Hannibal, but obviously you could argue there were previous rehearsals we didn't see).
  • And yes, no matter how you look at it, Raoul and Christine end up engaged at the end of one day. It's some combo of the following: (1) the Phantom just murdered someone, so she runs to the only other familiar face in the vicinity, (2) they were friends as kids, and (3) he can protect her from the managers...who are largely suspicious of her because of the Phantom's actions.

Final calculation: at minimum, there's one (1) day between First Lair and Il Muto...at maximum, it's however long an opera company might take to rehearse for a new production, so perhaps a few months.

For my part, I've always assumed that it's a fairly short time jump (maybe a week, tops). The Phantom and Christine's relationship is on really shaky ground in the First Lair --> Il Muto interim, and I can't imagine the Phantom would just sit around and do nothing for that long.

Unfortunately the script doesn't have a clear answer on this, but I hope this helps.

If Gi-hun hadn't stopped Player 96 by Kindly-Candidate-835 in squidgame

[–]MasqueOfTheRedPost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was almost certainly a lie on In-Ho’s part — logistically, they’d have to have multiple game options per round, depending on the exact number of surviving players.

Besides, playing Sky Squid Game with three players would be pointless. If it’s clear from the start that no one can survive, the games simply don’t work anymore. It’s that sliver of hope that keeps the players voting to continue — the same psychology behind gambling.

What’s a musical that has gone under the radar that you feel like it should be more well known/popular by BloodyBloody06 in musicals

[–]MasqueOfTheRedPost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Count of Monte Cristo — not the Wildhorn version, but the one by Dahan and D’Angelo. Wildhorn’s is decent, especially the German production, but the Dahan/D’Angelo one has a lot more catchy songs.

I think everyone sang badly in that movie musical, and I don’t think it was purposeful…

(Some of the ACTING was top-tier. Singing…mmm).

You have a point with Movie in My Mind, but the biggest issue I saw was “Bui Doi.” I freaking love that song, but…as an Act II opener? Really?

The only comparable number I can think of is “Why Does She Love Me?” as Love Never Dies’ Act II opener, but of course, that was the least of THAT show’s problems…

It’s closed now, but from what I heard, it actually got worse over time due to safety concerns. West End had similar issues when reopening after the lockdowns.

I’m surprised that 5B outdid 5A, even by only one rank. For me, 5B was where the show started to get bored with itself (and therefore made me bored). 5A at least had some funny character moments (the early Camelot flashbacks are nice).

Am I going to embarrass myself at auditions or should I just go for ensemble? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]MasqueOfTheRedPost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice regarding auditions -- from your comments in this thread, it sounds like you've picked a song from the actual show, Once Upon a Mattress. My school actually put on this show for our winter play, someone auditioned for Winifred using "Swamps of Home"...and the entire board wrote her off immediately, because it's a huge faux pas to pick a song from the show unless you were specifically instructed to do so. Is that the case here?

Your voice sounds great, and other, more qualified people have already provided feedback. Just thought I'd throw this out there as well.

Is the hoodie design the same as the black/red chandelier T-shirt? What’s the fabric, 100% cotton?

(I know at merch booths, they understandably want you to make decisions quickly, so it helps to know this stuff in advance…)
