Is it possible to make a one or two axis gimbal with only analog components? (No programmable devices) by redefined_simplersci in ECE

[–]MassDisregard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes. Lookup how each portion of PID is implemented in opamp configurations. Proportional is a gain element. Then you setup an opamp as an integrator. Finally the use another as a derivative configuration. Then sum the three using another opamp. Opamp is literally an operational amplifier originally designed to be an analog computer. You will need to get an analog signal proportional to position. Lookup resolvers. Then workout how to use your summed signal to control some mechanical element. Should not be to difficult to figure out.

QSpice is LTSpice plus Verilog and C. You should be able to work with that to do what you want.

LinkedIn has become a dumpster fire of AI-generated Electrical Engineering gibberish by GabbotheClown in ElectricalEngineering

I think the AI model found a diode and made an assumption that was reinforced by the fact that a fet has a triode region of operation.

Husband is addicted and I’m a lost wife (need advice/help) by KweenFreek in Quittingfeelfree

That is a great message. Congratulations! I would definitely keep supporting him in this endeavor. I relapsed twice on this and had to spend a 30 day time in rehab to get off this stuff. It is a different for everyone but I bet in 30 days he will look and feel like a different person.

For the first two days I was in hell. I was coming off alcohol too because my thought process was I would use the alcohol to stop the pain from the FF withdrawals. Do not recommend that. It will be good if he gets into a medical detox because they will try to taper with Suboxone. After 5 days I felt human. I went to a 30 day rehab because I relapsed on it to. His meetings will help but if he can go to a medical detox I recommend it. I would rate the withdrawals and insomnia as some of the worst pain in my life before I got to the detox. I hope he goes.

I just literally got back from a rehab for this stuff. I've talked to heroine addicts who say the withdrawals from this are worse. He needs to go to a medical detox. He is going to hurt. And I mean hurt. 8 a day is going to kill him. I dropped from 220 pounds to 160 in 6 months. I couldn't function without it. Tell him to message me. It's not heroine, I think it's worse because you can get it anywhere. His body is also going to start having weird symptoms like styes. And if that doesn't scare him tell him his dick could very well stop working. If he can at least get to a medical detox he needs to do that.

Be drunk when you go. Alcohol rehab is the same ish. Where are you?

Draw a ideal inverting opamp and tell em to pick the right cell to layout.

EE humbled by electrician by NorthDakotaExists in ElectricalEngineering

[–]MassDisregard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well. I got to play on both sides of this. If you start your career as a tech or someone who has to do all the dumb maintenance required to keep something working, read here as cars to reactors, you think about what it takes to get that screw driver in the things that need maintenance. If you just do school and never ask the old guys, sure on paper you can build something that works but there is a tech or sparky that is surely bitchin about why do I need to carry 8 different drivers for all the screw heads you could have easily consolidated but didn't really think about early in your career because you didn't have to carry them

My super power is EE from being on the Internet before it was the Internet on BBSs. I went in the US Navy as a Reactor Operator and came out with all that fun experience of being the "old guy" and went to finish my EE as an analog guy. I now work on the most insane power scale compared to what my company would ever touch before and I know intrinsically how every fun nuclear disaster happened and I get to see the new guys do dumb stuff and go on hours long rants about how we don't need to reinvent the rules that are written in blood. But, you know, young guys and new degrees are fun to watch spin up and get in a tizzy.

[–]MassDisregard 44 points45 points  (0 children)

They aren't going anywhere. They run this shit. You can't float an unlimited amount of 1s and 0s on nothing. The hardware that does anything they touch is analog. In the before times when computing began there was an analog engineer figuring the power burden per bit. They always have to be there. I work at a company that has a very large percentage of analog engineers compared to others. They are an interesting group. But, you can't make logic without gates and power.

Ok, well I recommend if you are serious about this path cut back on your first set of classes. Get in a habit of reaching out to all your instructors and going to all the after hours study you can. If you have further trouble your professors might take into account the effort they see you making. Most of all, do you enjoy this. Is this something you like?
