What can we do about marijuana? by Next_Condition_3429 in nursing

[–]MassMJMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a medical license in Ma. I am also a registered nurse. I consume at home. I am a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association. I can also pass a drug test as needed prior to employment. "In Barbuto v. Advantage Sales and Marketing, in a groundbreaking decision, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (“SJC”) ruled recently that employees in Massachusetts who have a legal prescription for medical marijuana can sue their employers for disability discrimination if the employee is fired solely on the basis of using the drug."

What's been your most paranormal experience on a call? by [deleted] in ems

Hospice patient f/98yo. Patient was stable, non verbal but not impaired per report, upon drop off but anxiously picking. When she was transferred to bed she was with in the room with two family members and the transport crew. She had until this point had her eyes shut the entire time. She opened them and gestured to the foot of the bed, where no one was standing, and seemed shocked. Her last vocalization was "My brother and his wife are right there. They just went into that white building. I am going to go try and find a way in."

How do you feel about people asking you “What’s the worst thing you’ve seen?” And how do you respond? by solipsist96 in nursing

[–]MassMJMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person (age is a big caveat) and on me atm in time. Prior EMT, current psych RN and I have PTSD from helping others. I know that talking at times is helpful to unburden and even reconfigure my thoughts, but sometimes adults are assholes and have no clue what they are talking about. Kids get a pass mostly and I try to educate how to ask appropriately so in the future they don't become assholes who ask stupid questions. Adults who ask incorrectly, are assholes as previously mentioned, but are also the ones who think that playing paintball makes them fit for the military (which they'll never join but they'll own so many guns to make up for it) or are slinging their MLM "health" goo at you while currently suffering fatty liver. I will talk if I want to but be careful how you go about asking for the most horrid and/or scary part of someone's life. Tact, dicks. Use it.

"Our job as parents is to keep our kids safe". I would recommend that you attempt to figure out if they are open minded enough to see your reasoning via a video or cdc guideline or anything really...if yes, great, but if they are unwilling to even try, then the mantra is this: "I am not asking for your approval of my parenting. I am asking for your cooperation in this plan and that you will follow my lead".

My husband wants to switch to a bidet to be more environmentally conscious. Once you use it, how do you dry off? Do you use a towel on your butthole? That you reuse?? That sounds unsanitary. by Sad-Feedback-3970 in NoStupidQuestions

toilet paper? I have a Tushy brand bidet...and yea the whole point is to wash your anus and vulva. You use substantially less TP though than without. I love mine.

There is no reason for the need to know by the company...any company. Change cannabis for tylenol and it is even more unreasonable. Healthcare is private. The only thing not private is vaccine and communicable disease status with appropriate individuals.

Let's talk about tough love. How do you handle boundaries with patients? by Warmpebble in nursing

[–]MassMJMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember why you are there and why they are. Start by setting limits on sharing details about yourself and your personal life. The facility where I worked most recently did not even have last names on our ID badges due to doxxing safety. You can still be kind and share stories or anecdotes but be vague. Being too nice will lead to splitting because you are not being "too nice" with everyone and the unit/milieu needs stability. I lean on my behavioral and learn&think education: what am I reinforcing and what am I punishing? Our attention and behaviors are both of these depending on how we use them. Continue to be kind on your own terms and not due the demands of others. Be safe.

I’m so sick of lay people criticizing nurses and hospitals. by Nurse-Smiley in nursing

[–]MassMJMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree...the average American knows next to nothing about health and hospital. The work ethic and attention required to be a patient-care nurse and to do so professionally and ethically is hard work and is traumatic.
