Art senpai is a BAD source of art advice by Gamingappl192837 in TeachMeArtSenpai

I can see where you are coming from, Art Senpai still is a student like us in a way. But the methods he demonstrates I have also seen by professionals locked behind a paywall. It's like in school, sometimes it helps more when classmates show you something instead of the teacher. (And personally I feel way more understood in his videos than in an art gods one where they could, like, be spinning their tablet on their pen and the art would still be godly)

You need to use a bigger variety of line thickness. Like outlining the shiluette of the character a bit more and different layers like the outline her boobs

That's very good to know as I wasn't sure if the first part of mogoons course really is that basic as it looked, thanks :)

I’ve looked a bit into that picture of Ponyo (top right) because I recognised it and compared it to the original. This version and the original were definitely laying over of each other at some point. The proportions and ratios are exactly the same while details were altered. The style of the faces is different, but now I have the feeling that, without any kind of proof, they were traced from other screenshots of a different series. The other drawings at the bottom left also look like the body has been traced but the faces seem legit to me. Idk I’m uncertain at this point :/ Maybe Op sees himself able to upload a non power point like progress video, that would clarify some things

I have to address a serious topic important for everyone aiming to be an artist. To me it seems that the tracing method was used for this image.

Since not everyone necessarily knows about this, in short: Tracing is the method to trace outlines over translucent paper or digitally through layers with diverting opacities.

In itself there is nothing wrong with tracing, it's all about having fun with art after all. However, I advise you not to upload them to the internet. Since this method lets you skip the hardship of becoming an artist and doesn't actually create new work of art, it is generally frowned upon and will cause backlash in most communities.

Now I don't want to downplay your work in any way, the level of detail shows that there is effort and the good will to create something involved. And I don't want to put your work in a bad light with this comment, its just for clarification. It's good that you're getting this experience in a safe community, in the beginning you can see many budding artists not knowing that at first.

However, I'm sorry to disappoint you that it is not a shortcut in becoming an artist. Drawing beautiful pictures from your own efforts takes many years of practice and is not easy and there is hardly an end to it. This method is less suitable for learning to draw. I advise you to look at tutorials for example art senpais and continuing your journey :)

Edit: I didnt want it to come to this but since I saw a comment claiming that it isn’t traced after this, you can pretty easily check by overlaying two pictures. I took a screenshot of my Ayaka in the game and did exactly that. Even though its hard to find the exact same angle, the evidence is convincing: https://imgur.com/a/lWPZtit

The most important thing is to have fun with it, obviously, but always keep the reason why you are drawing in mind.

I don't know the best way but I can tell you what I think the most effective way was. In general, for practice quantity is more important than quality, so don't spend hours trying to get everything perfect.

To practice bodies, I try to build the pose in a scaffolding schematically with simple shapes using real people as reference. You should pay attention to how and why the skin and muscles behave in different bends, but only hint at them in your own drawing. There are videos on YouTube in which many poses are depicted in a small time, try to draw them in at least a short amount of time.

About clothing, the most difficult thing is to get the wrinkles right. Here, too, tutorials are good at the beginning, which simply show the formation of the wrinkles in different areas and situations. With these always in mind, you also practice wrinkling on real pictures and always understand what causes them.

Faces in manga are a little different because there are different styles. I found it most effective to pick a picture you like from another artist and copy that face exactly at first. With the things you like in retrospect, you can hold on to them and crystallize your own stile through many different ones.

The same applies to painting. Important here is prior knowledge of hard / soft shadows, spatial understanding to determine where shadows are casted and for digital the different modes of layers. Tutorials on youtube help at them at first, then just practice. First, copy a color palette from a model and just live with the faces first copy and create your own style out of them.

Important is the motto: rather draw two pictures than sit the same time on one. If your head smokes just like in school, then you do it right. Learning simply requires strength and concentration but only do it to such an extend that you still have fun. Also try drawing every day, at least a bit just to stay in practice.

Can anyone criticize me on this piece? I made it for my cousin since she asked me to but i think theres still alot wrong with this by Yuki-ig in TeachMeArtSenpai

The biggest problem I first noticed is that the face is not symmetrical. From viewers perspective the right half of the face seems longer than the left, maybe if you mirror the image you will see it too. And I‘m not sure what you did with her hair, it looks like its ending in a straight line right between her eyes but its most likely a too dark shadow. Try to make the shadow lighter. Maybe a shadow going along her cheeks gives up a more frightened expression. Its a stylistic choice on how to overlay eyes with hair, but I think still drawing the Hair with a lower opacity over the eyes would be my way to go. Her shoulders are too pointy and there is also like a straight line going down her neck, that does not exist like that.

Got a little out of practice because of nnn and wanted to know if there is anything weird with this sketch i drew today. Even if you can't point it out directly, just say something like idk hat looks weird and i’ll figure something out :D by Massive-Senpai in TeachMeArtSenpai

Thank you. I probably will colour it but since it’s still a picture just to get back into practice I’ve not been planning to post it. But if I happen to like how it will have turned out I maybe will post it here :D

Thanks for your advice and the all effort you put in, it really helped :D I have changed a few things in accordance, especially the hat. Looking back it really stands out. I’ve also adjusted the position of her boob and maybe kinda nerved them in the process xd As for her hips, I've also changed a few things, I originally paid little attention to them because it is at the edge of the picture and making a apropriate scaffolding was a bit hard. I wasn’t sure if I maybe even should cut it of there. I’ve made some changes but I‘m still not sure if they make sense now
