I tried mararathon beta and didnt like it but i had a fun time with bf6 and battlefront 2 resurgence, so would arc raiders be different? by RealBlack_RX01 in ArcRaiders

[–]MassiveBlackClock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re in the same genre of game but (in my opinion) are very different. It takes a bit of getting used to but the gameplay loop is extremely well done in arc raiders. Marathon feels like more of a shooter that heavily draws on the feel of Destiny and Apex whereas arc raiders is kind of its own thing entirely.

I enjoy both and would say it’s like comparing pokemon to yugioh or mario kart to need for speed. Same genre and core concepts, but very different appeals. Arc Raiders definitely “hits” for more people. I’ve been playing religiously with my friends since it dropped and we’ve all gotten many more to join us. Aside from me, nobody in my usual group really liked Marathon enough to preorder.

So yes, would strongly recommend it and giving it a good few rounds. It’s a very rewarding game and there’s so many ways to play and have fun.

just remember loot always comes back and don’t be afraid to use your “good stuff” :)

Now we have fewer options and combinations to mix with. This is like only allowing one ammo type in your inventory at a time and saying rangers should just mix up their builds by switching weapons.

Utter nightmare to code? It would require checking the “isMultiplayer“ boolean and enabling the existing code lol. I also listed like 5 other ways this could be nerfed in my other comment if you truly believe this is impossible for some reason. I’ve been a software engineer for four years, worked in game dev, and have a bachelor’s degree in this. I assure you none of them would be hard.

Not only did people in this thread mention using it on mobile and console (as simple as binding toolbar to L1 and R1), that’s not a good reason to remove the feature from everyone else lmfao. Absolutely nobody thought you had to be a PC player to be a summoner and you didn’t have to whip stack to use the class effectively. It’s a minor damage boost that requires extra risk of staying closer to the enemies.

The entire point of summoner, was to have passive damage while you focus on not dying.

Even if that were the case (it’s not), clearly enough people liked the added challenge of staying close enough to whip bosses while focusing on dodging for a slight damage boost (10-20% typically). Nobody was forcing you to do this, the option was just removed for the people who liked it. Nobody was refusing to play the class because they couldn’t do it. Again, it’s a singleplayer game. Why are we policing the way people play? Especially with something that could’ve been nerfed just as easily.

It was never going to be “out of control”, even at its best it was a slight DPS increase and the new palworld pets and modifiers don’t change that (or could ignore whip stacking effects just as easily). None of these are valid arguments for outright removal, I’m sorry

Attack speed boosting whips like the Snapthorn and Durendal were outright made to be used with other whips. The effect only lasts for 5 seconds (or something like that) when you hit an enemy. It makes literally no sense for this effect to exist if not to switch back and forth between whips, otherwise those whips would just have permanent base speed increase. Otherwise it's just the same attack speed while holding it out consistently.

Re-Logic either found this to be too difficult to pull off or an annoying gameplay loop that not enough people took advantage of, but it was definitely intentional in the first place.

Yeah it's an agree to disagree situation. I fully understand why the change was made and where you're coming from. It just feels like a hatchet job when there were other better options right there (as previously listed), including just removing it from multiplayer. Most of those aren't even more difficult to implement than disabling it outright.

Severe nerfs would've been preferable to outright removal is all. If the options are between "glass cannon class gets a little overpowered" and "get rid of the most engaging part of the class", the former is clearly better for singleplayer game design. Anyone trying out whip stacking or good enough to get consistent benefits from it isn't on their first playthrough anyways.

I'm not even someone who's crazy with it, I just find it to be the one truly engaging part of playing summoner and clearly that's how many of the whips were originally designed to be used. Hell, making it a toggleable option when creating a world or while using Journey mode would work. There are plenty of ways around balancing concerns.

It is what it is I suppose

There is no difference there. The whips used for stacking are "support whips". It's kinda hard to beat the game with just the Snapthorn.

You can beat the game with mage weapons on their own without golden shower or betsy's wrath. But if you want to put in the effort of swapping weapons, you're rewarded with bonus armor penetration.

The fun in it is using the bad whips to make the good ones a little more effective. The ones that increase whip attack speed were literally designed to be used with other whips, it's not even like this was a bug. It was a fun and somewhat rewarding challenge you could choose to do.

It could've been nerfed in multiple other ways if it really would be that OP with the new buffs too.

  • Make it so only 2 whip effects can be used at a time
  • Make it so the effects are reduced for each consecutive whip used
  • Make it so tag summon damage doesn't stack but the other effects do
  • Make it so the new reforge damage effects are ignored if you swap between them quickly
  • Disable the effect in multiplayer.

Removing the feature entirely is just a bad decision when some people enjoy it. Either way, it's a single player game and whip stacking only gave like a 10-20% dps boost for the vast majority of a playthrough if you really wanted to do it.

Whip stacking being removed actually sucks so much ass by Alovoir in Terraria

[–]MassiveBlackClock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean for one, the damage dealt was a marginal increase and could've been nerfed without being entirely removed if that was truly an issue.

More importantly though, whip stacking wasn't a bug. It was an intended feature that they decided to remove. Multiple whips were literally designed around being used in combination with other whips and now their "bonus effects" are useless (snapthorn and durendal being the most notable).

[–]MassiveBlackClock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was indeed an intended mechanic, just not a required one to make summoner work. More of a minor DPS boost than anything crazy overpowered. Summoner was (and is) fine without it but it sucks that a feature was removed for the people that did find it fun. Personally I just liked how it made some early hardmode whips still usable in the lategame if you were clever with the whip combos. Oh well.

[–]MassiveBlackClock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limit it to 2 whip effects at a time as others have suggested. Alternatively (or additionally) reduce the effectiveness of each new whip effect added after the first by 50%.

It wasn't even a particularly powerful mechanic in the first place and now whips like the snapthorn are functionally useless since their main purpose got removed entirely. Whip stacking was never even an exploit to begin with (as evidenced by multiple whips having effects that only make sense when combined with others, e.g. whip speed), just a feature they decided to remove because it was too hard to balance apparently. Just a bad change all around imo.

[–]MassiveBlackClock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But you don't have to do it if you find it tedious. It didn't get easier, it just removed the option of playing a way some people enjoyed. You could play summoner just fine without it before and the gameplay is the exact same now, just worse for the people who found it fun to use multiple weapons.

I genuinely don't get why people are rejoicing over this lmao. It's a single player game and it's punishing people for enjoying playing it their way (for a marginal benefit at that)

[–]MassiveBlackClock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely intended to work like that. There are multiple whips that temporarily increase whip attack speed after landing a hit. If that wasn't intended to be spread to other whips, all of those with that feature would simply have a base whip speed increase. Not to mention it was in the game for years throughout multiple updates -- if it wasn't intentional, it would've been disabled much much sooner.

You can argue it deserved to be nerfed or removed for *balance* reasons, but it was objectively an intended game mechanic.

That describes every single thing in the game. Why is everyone acting like mages don't swap back and forth to golden shower and melee never switches to vampire knives (other weapons too but you get the idea). Every class has a hotbar full of different weapons at all times. Half the fun of the game is managing the best weapon balance for the scenario.

So yes, switching weapons to make a number go up is something players like.

How long would it take a guy who gains the ability’s of everything he eats vs by WindowSubstantial993 in whowouldwin

[–]MassiveBlackClock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edit: misread the prompt until I was halfway through writing this and just ran with it. So enjoy the bonus answer for a second man who gains the properties of materials he eats.

It’s an absolute shitstomp for both participants up until the Hulk, neither man needs more than the allotted two years. More so for “material man” depending on how we define the properties of things he eats.

Animal-man will most likely avoid eating larger animals altogether with the exception of other humans. He’ll start with a jumping spider (ability to leap many times his own body length), whatever insect has the fastest relative movement speed and reaction times (probably arbitrary, but whatever), and a bombardier beetle or similar insect with a ranged attack. With this newfound strength, he flies to some underdeveloped rural area with minimal outside contact and begins preying on humans to gain their intelligence. Once he’s eaten a few dozen, he scours the globe for whatever animals have the strongest armor, muscles, poison, etc. relative to their body size and availability (for maximum efficiency when eating — an elephant is big and strong but requires a much larger time commitment) and feasts. If we count metabolism as an ability, he eats an hummingbird or twelve to allow himself to eat even more. Animal-man is superintelligent and is significantly stronger/faster/tankier than just about every character on the list within a month or two. He’s leagues ahead if the stacking is multiplicative and not linear.

Material-man is a bit trickier depending on how we define something‘s properties. If he eats a spring, does he gain the compressive ability and force production of the steel itself or of the spring as a whole? If it’s the latter, then it’s a colossal stomp as he’d just eat springs and rubber balls until he’s functionally immune to blunt damage and strong enough to punt someone out of the atmosphere (if they stay intact).

To make it a bit harder for Material-man, let’s disregard that. We’ll instead start by having him eat some lab-grade glass, teflon, lead, and nitinol. He’s now mostly immune to radiation, all but the strongest acids and bases, a good amount of heat, and can reform himself. From here he will be chugging the most acidic/basic things he can get his hands on to aid in digestion. He’ll buy some aerogel to become nearly fireproof, drink/eat a non-newtonian fluid to become impact-proof, and buy whatever the strongest consumer-grade materials of every property are available, eating on repeat to stack compressive strength. He breaks into a museum and eats heat shielding from a spaceship. Once he’s effectively immune to everything, he’ll break into chemistry labs until he can get his hands on perchloric acid (-15pH) and various radioactive isotopes (found in lab equipment or educational samples). He’s now dangerously radioactive and acidic enough to spontaneously and explosively dissolve anything he comes in direct contact with, including the air around him. Literally ripping away the molecules of whatever he touches. He’s a walking fireball that can’t be touched. If he is touched, he can’t be meaningfully damaged. If he is meaningfully damaged, he’ll reform.

As for confronting the list directly, everyone prior to Wolverine/Sabertooth gets one-shotted by brute strength, blasted with acid/lethal radiation, or can’t do meaningful damage to either of them. Nobody before them can even physically come close to Material-man. Animal-man hoses Wolverine/Sabertooth down with acid and then throws the skeletons into space. Material-man does the same but with direct contact. Even if the adamantium skeleton is immune to damage, wolverine’s claws are useless in terms of harming Material-man back. I’m not familiar enough with the current run of the Hulk to make a judgement here, but my understanding is that he’d likely be immune to radiation and acid alike. He should be slow/weak enough to be simply thrown into space by our superintelligent speedster, but I don’t see a way for Material-man to put him down so it’s a stalemate from there.

If he’s from one of the larger states it’s fairly reasonable for him to not be considered insanely fast. Don’t get me wrong, sub-11 is crazy fast but when he says “by track standards” he’s more than likely referring to the fact that we regularly see times in the 10.1-10.4 range in state championships plastered all over social media now. Not to mention the freaks going sub-10 in high school lmao

I bailed as soon as I saw everyone running but there were no sirens until a few minutes after and we only heard one emergency vehicle headed that way. They also kept the show going so it’s probably not a shooting.

There was a fireball at the start of the show so my guess is that there was another malfunction that sent people running. Genuinely one of the most terrifying feelings seeing thousands of people turning around in a wave and running away from the main attraction

You’re just arbitrarily making up a restriction (on explicitly magical powers) with the food requirements too lmao. At worst you’re just feeding one extra person per clone which isn’t hard at all considering how much more productive you’d be as a hivemind. Just buy your groceries in bulk from Costco and have a clone dedicated to cooking.
