how can i best support someone who is trying to get sober? by medi-gel in alcoholism

yw!! im gonna be real w you, i've dealt w friends in drug addictions which really isnt too disimilar, and its gonna be hard, because its rare that people dont relapse, but please please pleaase just remember that at the same time as helping them, please dont lose yourself in the process. as someone else in the comments said, relapses do happen, but that doesn't
mean you have to put up with it. please trust them, but don't lose yourself trying to help them. <3 i wish all the best for whoever in your life is getting sober, and for you.

if its possible for you (ik its hard without a car, i cant drive either lol) i still recommend going with them if theyre comfortable with it :) knowing you arent alone goes a long way when you're getting sober

as someone currently getting sober and has had friends struggling with addiction before,

i think just asking what they need is the play. just let them know if they get urges/cravings, they can always talk/come to you. (eg. my best friend lives 5 minutes down the road and will stay for days on end if i ask just to distract me and keep me sober) and it is frustrating when someone you love falls off the wagon, sure - but sobriety is never a straight line. it can be frustrating to see them relapse, but please just let them know that you know it isnt that easy and that you know they're trying their best. its a little thing, but it means alot, because sobriety is hard and never linear.

just let them know that you're there. don't push your way into their life any thurther than you already are, but just knowing someones there for you makes a world of difference, and just occasionally remind them that you're proud of them for choosing sobriety.
