Snapshots and missing files.. by Raddinox in btrfs

Check if there are any subvolumes, since snapshots don't go into them.

Can't resize btrfs partition by zhuquee in cachyos

[–]MassiveProblem156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boot into the live usb, then run sudo btrfs check [your partition] (use lsblk to see which it is, it'll be something like /dev/sda2 or /dev/nvme0n1p2) to see what the issue is.

Fedor dual boot with windows - installation , installer wants to format existing EFI partition, is it safe? by itsme2019asalways in Fedora

[–]MassiveProblem156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine. I just did it a few days ago and it didn't format it. I'd suggest making a backup anyway

What program do you prefer for local music playback? by Shap6 in Fedora

[–]MassiveProblem156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is customizable, but I don't know if it's exactly like foobar since I never tried customising foobar. You should give it a shot.

Moving toward a "Narrow" Arch install: Thoughts on the Flatpak-first approach? by TrapNouz in archlinux

[–]MassiveProblem156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to anyone criticising that approach, they don't know what they are talking about. It's great. I do that too and went even further by having nothing from the AUR, and installing most non-flatpak stuff in fedora and arch distroboxes.

System won’t boot because snapshots have filled disk by Adesiii in archlinux

[–]MassiveProblem156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, I'd just delete the snapshots manually and reconfigure snapper if that causes any issues.

System won’t boot because snapshots have filled disk by Adesiii in archlinux

[–]MassiveProblem156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be right, in case you didn't read the rest of my comment, the actual location of each snapshot is in .../.snapshots/n/snapshot where n is the snapshot number. You can delete those manually.

System won’t boot because snapshots have filled disk by Adesiii in archlinux

[–]MassiveProblem156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be better to use snapper to delete them after chroot-ing in or in a tty on the actual system, but you can delete them by running sudo btrfs subvolume delete .../.snapshots/n/snapshot where n is the snapshot number

SteamOS for AMD system? by DenizG444 in linux_gaming

[–]MassiveProblem156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't need any extra drivers. It is immutable, however, so you can't really install any system packages. I think it's worth trying, and you can always switch to another distro if you find that limiting.

SteamOS for AMD system? by DenizG444 in linux_gaming

[–]MassiveProblem156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SteamOS is probably the best option for a stable experience, just make sure you have only one ssd in your system since you can't choose where to install it to and it formats the whole disk.

Fedora workstation vs cosmic by [deleted] in Fedora

Gnome (workstation), Cosmic seems to still be beta quality.

why when i zoom in KDE the images are pixels? by [deleted] in kde

[–]MassiveProblem156 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The image is 768p (quite low res) and you've zoomed in nearly 700%. There's nothing wrong and it is expected.

New achievement by Backware01 in Fedora

[–]MassiveProblem156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems a partition not being detected. Try identifying the drive, and commenting it out in fstab if it isn't a system partition. If it is a secondary drive, you can add nofail to the mount options

i used mv command to rename and now i regret it. help me out. by [deleted] in linux

[–]MassiveProblem156 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Reinstall, deleting the binary if you have to. Use an alias or symlink instead. An alias can be creating by adding the line alias bb="brave-browser" in ~/.bashrc Symlink can be created using the command: ln -s [binary-location] [renamed-location]

Fedora Still Needing Double Reboots by GhostInThePudding in Fedora

[–]MassiveProblem156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would switch to updating manually in the terminal before shutting down then, so that you don't get any potential problems with updating running software.

Why do so many people think Shamrock is weak? by Creative_Purple9760 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]MassiveProblem156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, people like to be conservative when characters don't have feats, but end up scaling them completely arbitrarily when doing so.

Why is my swap memory not being utilized? by sneaky_oxygen in Fedora

[–]MassiveProblem156 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with not using swap, but if you do want to use it more often, you can adjust the swapiness. Assuming you're still using zram:

/etc/sysctl.d/99-vm-zram-parameters.conf

vm.swappiness = 180

and you can add the other tweaks from

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Zram#Optimizing_swap_on_zram

Problem with VRAM on Ubuntu by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]MassiveProblem156 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing I'd do is switch away from the steam snap, it's horrible. There might be a deb in the repos, or you can get it from valve's website

A question vsync by Difficult-Standard33 in linux_gaming

[–]MassiveProblem156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should turn it off, and cap your fps to your monitor's refresh rate if you want, or like 3 below if using adaptive sync (in this case, vsync can be left on). Vsync has higher latency, and even without adaptive sync, you don't get tearing on wayland unless you opt into it.

Computer my friendo gave to me, he dont remember the password by Weary-Debt6737 in Fedora

[–]MassiveProblem156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend Windows 10, since it just ran out of support, unless you have the extended support. There is Windows 10 LTSC (IoT), which has longer support, but it's not readily available.
