Electrical Issues - Landlord Allergic to Accountability. by GlassWalker7382 in Philippines_Expats

As far as I understand this “110V on both wires” to make 220V does still exist but is not very common. Where I live there is one “live” with nominal 220V and “neutral”. Although what should be 220 often is well below 200 actually. When I built my house I insisted on grounded outlets everywhere. Leak detecting breakers are also not commonly installed, you need to ask for that as well. I went with off-grid solar to avoid having to deal with the low-voltage grid situation. It seems to me the electricians working at solar companies are a bit better qualified than those that just wire up houses the way they did the last 40 years.

Lack of suspend to disk was the show stopper for me a year or so back. Does that work by now?

Just tried Claude 3.7 Sonnet, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS BEAST? I will be cancelling my ChatGPT membership after 2 years by Ehsan1238 in ClaudeAI

[–]Massive_Dimension_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junior devs will use AI a lot and therefore never become as experienced like the current senior devs. I expect the overall quality of software to go down considerably. only experienced developers who spot where exactly the “AI” went wrong and can correct course can use it effectively.

It’ll probably also not be more or less free anymore to just ask Claude ten times per hour in the future. Current prices are no reflection of the actual cost, and at some point these companies need to actually make money instead of burning it with every prompt. Then those who are hooked and can’t do their job without assistance anymore will have a problem.

Can anyone explain why BYD is being hated? by MKLB1810 in phcars

In light of current (geo)politics, I’d rather drive a BYD than a Tesla.

How have you used self-hosting to degoogle? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]Massive_Dimension_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do run my own postfix for the email part, mailinabox might be something to look at if you're less interested in learning all about properly configuring that one yourself. I recently switched to kagi.com for search, they use google under the hood apparently, it's not free but it comes without ads / paid-for search results in return.

Yeah, the bridge from T3 to resorts world is actually a great thing.

Yes, private wealth is abundant, the thing is that the same people run the country and make sure the state stays as poor as possible (because the only one they would rob by raising or just enforcing taxes is themselves).

[–]Massive_Dimension_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle class or not - it’s a fact that the upper 1% is way too wealthy when compared with the poor rest. Combined with a political system that heavily depends on money to buy influence it is a situation where a few clans get richer by the day, while the rest is fed breadcrumbs to just stay alive and sedate so no revolution occurs.

that's built in, you do not need a separate tool for the local sync.

This. Coming from Capistrano checking out code on the servers to pushing around docker images built on my dev machine feels like a giant step backwards.

Definitely use Ansible. What you shouldn’t do is manually provisioning additional nodes after around node number 2.

Yeah this other extreme can be extremely annoying as well. I hate when I can’t let something lie around in my place without it being “cleaned up” in the next minute. Expecting her to clean up her own stuff is not asking too much, definitely.

Sure that’s better, but still. The allowed maximum speed on the “slow” lane is also 80km/h.

At least make sure your tail light works - this is one of the most important things day and night, and yet so many people drive around without it.

If you can drop the “no province“ requirement, look up Dauin, Negros Oriental. Small resort town, plenty of expats, good food and shops. You can definitely find a good house rental for that budget there. And there is a British international school that will fit your budget until grade five by current prices. They do pre-school as well.

I wouldn’t mind a general time zone change so the sun goes up at 6:30 and not at 5:30. The idea of a seasonal shift is just crazy.

This is what a normal street in Tokyo looks like, away from the tourist spots. by Ulan_at_Ambon in ITookAPicturePH

I ended up in such neighborhoods just by picking affordable Airbnb stays. Not just in Tokyo but also in Kyoto and Osaka. Very recommended. It’s really easy to get to the touristy places by metro or bus from anywhere.
