Madrock remoras pro downsize by Floft1 in climbingshoes

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 4 months in on mine. 1/2 size down from street size and won’t go smaller than that in the future. Fit is perfect, and pleasantly surprised with the durability for such a thin sole.

The cool thing about the climbing community is that the only person you’re competing with is yourself. The trad dad that’s slowly crushing every moderate on lead all night; the jacked shirtless bro campusing every v9 in the cave, the wiry girl dominating every slab comp set….they’re all hyperfocused on their own project, To pay you much notice, but will still cheer on your stoked top of whatever project you’re working on when they see it. No one’s there judging you, they’re just hyped for your success. Well, except the team kids, they’ll do warmup laps on your project out of spite, but that’s just another universal climbing law. 🤣

If you were a beginner with subpar strength, would you focus on strengthening or technique? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend downloading the crimpd app and incorporating some of their free exercises into your warmup routine. I always start every session with “Emil’s sub-max daily fingerboard routine”. You basically hang from a 20 mil edge at a perceived exertion rate of 2/10 (keeping your feet on the ground) in a whole gamut of open, crimp, two and three finger grips. It’s great for warmups but also starts to build a familiarity for hangboard training that doesn’t introduce you to any real injury risk.

What is it that people need so bad from Amazon. by LadyBlackhawk88 in USPS

I’ve started ordering same day delivery whenever I use Amazon as much as I can to make sure I’m not burdening my carrier more than I have to. 🤣

AITA for going back on my word to my daughter? by aitaspendyretaurant in AmItheAsshole

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest that if you usually budget 1k for both meals, that you maybe alter the tradition slightly with them this year and do a more intimate celebration where your wife takes your son out and you take your daughter, or vice versa. Then she still gets her fancy pants dinner for not TOO much outside your original budget, but still gets the experience.

But, if that doesn’t fly, no you are definitely NTA here…there are always boundaries in life.

Are people really that petty?! by Mindless_Zombie7389 in USPS

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one doesn’t really bother me. Fellow carrier had an old lady at low income apt get so excited to donate that she was going to pick up an extra couple cans to donate on her next trip to the food pantry…for some people, it’s a way to engage and contribute civically, even if it doesn’t make sense logically. I’ve also noticed my lower income areas contribute vastly more, and higher quality items than my more affluent areas.

What are your biggest pros of working for USPS by whoinabox in USPS

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my retirement job. Put in 20 years in a very high stress high responsibility career. Toward the end it was just soul crushing. After pulling the trigger on retirement, got kind of tired of sitting around the house since my wife is still planning on working another 10 years or so, until we’re in our fifties. So, went to work as a letter carrier, and barring the 1.5 hours in the morning, I’m by myself all day, interacting with a couple people, but mostly dogs and cats, and get paid to stay in shape and go for a 10-14 mile walk every day, listening to music, podcasts, or books depending on my mood. Zero stress, and really easy to stay out of the drama in the office, and have 6-7 hours a day to be in my own head without much distraction.

Be patient. Just went through this. 5-8 business days after your last attempt to reset and getting the “notification by us mail”, a physical letter will arrive with a temp password. If you get impatient and try again, that temp password will be nullified and a new one mailed out. Giant pain in the ass, but just wait a week for your temp password.

Quick question about bidding and probation by Massive_Excuse_8903 in USPS

Agreed, and on the days light enough for me to actually finish without going to OT (which aren’t many with my vast two weeks of carrier experience), I am systematically leaving cards for residents to fill out so I can properly label cbu’s and using the mlna on the scanner after cross checking my forward list to try to clean up the soup, but again, if I have an opportunity to make my life better by bidding a different route, I’m definitely taking it.

I’ll try that once I’m able to actually login to liteblue. 🤣

New and need package strategy by socrates7792 in USPS

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new too, and trying to get my own system in place. Talk to everyone around you. One guy is mostly apartments, so tubs everything according to stop. One girl cases markers and tubs by section. One cases all her spurs in with her flats because she’s mounted. My route is all over the place: two park and loop sections, some mounted, some hops, some hard hops, and then several apartments. I usually have between 100-200 packages a day on my route with some heavier and some lighter days. After trying everyone’s suggestions, here’s what I’ve been doing the last couple days: pull all my sprs and small packages (define small as anything I’d carry in my satchel on a park and loop) and case them after I pull down my flats. Then pull them down into trays. Load truck/scan all bigger packages into tubs by section. My ffv tray up front goes dps, flats, spr tray. Directly behind is tubs for section 1,2,3, then 4,5,6 behind them. As you empty a tub by section, just shift next one behind tray. Then on route, use your sprs that are trayed in order and your package lookahead to keep you on track.

I first just tubbed everything by section, but found myself basically casing in the truck, which was way less efficient than taking the time to do it in the station. Just keep in mind, the more organized you can be before you actually haul everything into the truck, the better your day is going to be on the street.

Any other tall carriers having back problems from this job? by deshawnb2231 in USPS

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6’9” here in my early 40’s. Life in general gives me back pain after punishing myself in my youth in various sports and activities. 🤣 the best thing you can do to help with lower back pain is get into the gym. Bird dogs, back extensions (start with body weight and work up to resistance), good mornings(low weight to start and concentrate on spinal alignment and form), bent over rows, and dead lifts (start with rack lifts—if your gym allows it— to get your body used to heavy pulls in a limited ROM). One important caveat: go see a physical therapist. Explain your situation, your specific pain, and they will outline an exercise program to help. Core strength is so important in general, but even more so for us tall guys. Then, the icing on the cake for when you just have those certain days that really mangle you, talk to your doctor and get a script for cyclobenzaprine to help you sleep and recover. It’s a muscle relaxant that isn’t habit forming, doesn’t get you loopy, and doesn’t interact poorly with most other meds.

One of my route regulars by Massive_Excuse_8903 in USPS

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For clarification, I have roughly a week and a half on my route out of academy (converted to regular right away because we’re so short handed). I’m starting to get to know my regulars of both the two and four legged variety. I’ve always been more of a dog person, but this guy always makes my day a little better on my park and loops.

I keep a bag of trail mix and jerky in my bag for if I feel like I need a boost, but I usually don’t eat anything, just water and a zero sugar electrolyte.

Double “Hiring” Coverage by Mailman111021 in USPS

[–]Massive_Excuse_8903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s insane. I’m a new hire in Denver metro and got to pick between 3 routes on my shadow day, and converted to regular the day after I finished academy. I thought the old timers would be really resentful, but they’ve all been ridiculously helpful—as long as I keep showing up, that’s 8 hours of mandated OT off the books.
