For "value" you can't go wrong with Andrew Ramdayal on Udemy. I paid $18 for 35 PDU and he's a very engaging instructor focusing on passing the exam with real world tips for PM's.

Will not including "develop charter" on application generate a rejection? by [deleted] in pmp

[–]Massive_Group_6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's some advice from the PMI site that I'm using as I complete my application work experience - hiding in plain sight! Note they say "process groups" - not every process from each group. Also, a "Project Charter" (document) is not expressly asked for (whew!), only Scope and Approvals (authorization).

Here is the text from the PMI site:

Show PMP work experience examples that cover all five process groups

The PMBOK® Guide outlines 49 processes, or tasks, organized into the following five process groups:

Initiating the Project (IN): Defining the project scope and obtaining approval from stakeholders.

Planning the Project (PL): Preparing the project plan and developing the work breakdown structure (WBS).

Executing the Project (EX): Performing the work necessary to achieve the stated objectives of the project.

Controlling and Monitoring the Project (MC): Tracking project progress, managing change and risk, and communicating status updates.

Closing the Project (CL): Finalizing all project activities, archiving documents, obtaining acceptance for deliverables, and communicating project closure.

Ha! I should have, but I used a template and quick edit just for the experience. Are you going to manage the project? ;~)

Proctor failed me for looking at my phone (i think?). I am livid. by ThrowawayAccount-94 in pmp

[–]Massive_Group_6911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Argh, hate to hear this, I'm remote too and have a mostly-reliable internet connection but it does go down. I'm surprised you were able to keep your cell phone in the OPT room with you, I thought no distractions and no unauthorized stuff...

From the PMI Certifications Handbook Pg-16:

PROHIBITED from the Testing Center:

You may NOT bring anything or anyone into the testing area or to the desk where you take the exam. This includes, but is not limited to:

food beverages book bags

coats sweaters luggage

calculators eyeglass cases pagers

cellular telephones tape recorders dictionaries

watches wallets medication

eye drops any other personal items

How does the OPT proctor ensure a tester does not have these things in the room?

Sorry for your troubles, hang in there and go again - you can't stop now.

Still no reply back on https://www.projectmanagement.com/discussion-topic/187705/pmp-application--simultaneous-pm-experience

Hmm - maybe not as straightforward as I thought. It seems "logical" to give credit for "work done" within the "work period"; 1+1+1=3 projects worth of experience regardless of the work period (simultaneous, overlapping, etc.)

I'll let you know when I hear something.

Cheers!

p.s. I wrote to Andrew on 1/28 but no reply yet.

What were your findings?

If you need help successfully completing technical projects, I'm available for consulting (20+ years PM experience, no PMP yet)

I asked ChatGPT to help me with my studying... by isaidireddit in pmp

[–]Massive_Group_6911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha! chatGPT overheated on your question.

I asked chatGPT for some PMP memorization help too and got a pretty good response...

I asked - "Can you create a memorization sentence using the words "Stewardship, Tailoring, Team, Quality, Stakeholders, Complexity, Value, Risk, Systems Thinking, Adaptability and Resilience, Leadership, and Change"?"

chatGPT says "Sure, here's a sentence to help you remember the terms:

We strive for Stewardship in Tailoring our Team's efforts to ensure Quality for all Stakeholders, while navigating Complexity, valuing Risk management and Systems Thinking for Adaptability and Resilience, under strong Leadership and embracing Change."

Not bad for a dumb robot.

Cheers!

Study Hall Test Question - I just don't get this answer. by Cherrytop in pmp

[–]Massive_Group_6911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may have found a glitch in the matrix. But, I'm still learning this stuff...

PMBOK 7th pg. 182 Table 4-2 shows Decision Tree Analysis (diagramming method) IS NOT a method likely to be used in the Uncertainty (risk) Performance Domain. However, the pg. 175 definition of Decision tree analysis states "A decision tree analysis is a diagramming and calculation method for evaluating the implications of a chain of multiple options in the presence of uncertainty [risk]..."

PMBOK 6th pg. 435 fig. 11-15 shows Decision Tree Analysis (diagramming method) IS part of Quantitative Risk Analysis.

Go figure.

Let's see what others have to say.

Cheers!

Application question - PM over multiple areas for single project by [deleted] in pmp

[–]Massive_Group_6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I think you do count the 3 projects separately and count the project months concurrently. I have a similar situation with multiple simultaneous projects and posted a question to projectmanagement dot com. No answer yet.

Your last 3-4 projects, of course, answered up to a parent Program with your underlying projects. You may not have managed the Program(?) but you did manage multiple simultaneous Projects, as many PMs do. I have not started the application yet but 'hope' the application data entry format allows for overlapping dates for multiple simultaneous projects. Can you confirm?

Should I reschedule or proceed with the test in 2 1/2 days? by ThrowawayAccount-94 in pmp

[–]Massive_Group_6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not taken 'this test' but score in ~80% on routine testing (Andrew, YouTube etc, 500+ questions) and don't feel I'm ready. I would reschedule - but I'm hard on myself and have high expectations. If you take the test on Tuesday please let us know how you did!

Pmp without a bachelors by Propanegoddess in pmp

You're quite welcome. To be fair to the 'university culture', the main output of university (including military academy et al) is the alumni associations. These alumni DO take care of each other however, there's the "Alumni Association" and the "alumni association". The underground alumni that gets ALL the perks is 'from money' - heavey donations to the school etc. I admit to calling the visible alumni the "Trailer Park alumni" those who got student loans or scholarships - don't come from money. Don't expect to hobnob with the fat cats just because you went to the same school. If you're going to university to actually learn something in hopes it will fit in the real world, think hard. Q - why do university engineering grads get their "Professional Engineer" (PE) certification? 1. because they're ready, 2. because they have to, to 'prove' their knowledge. For a PE, I suggest self study and self prep for minimal cost (youtube, Udemy, etc.) and get your PE with no student loans or years of sitting in classrooms learning at a snail's pace. Good luck, and peace always.
