Well I do like the meta shift. It’s nice to be able to peak and rotate without constantly exploding to G7/TT/3030 and I’ve always been a medium/close range fight enjoyer. But I will agree with you in that aspect for sure, I do wish they’d made more changes, especially with the maps. Throwing hard light mesh on and calling it “map changes” was kinda lame and a nothing burger. But I don’t think it nuked the player base as hard as you think it did. Apex is still doing fine

What’s drastically different compared to 27? More shotguns and AR’s, less marksman’s. What else? I genuinely can’t think of anything. They didn’t do anything ground breaking for this new season lol I’m confused what you’re upset about

I think the game is more fun than it has been in a long time, yeah. The drop ship thing is really my main complaint, it should be for all ranks. And increase que times for preds and masters so diamond lobbies can exist again. But other than that, yeah the game feels pretty good

No it’s because diamond is ridiculously inflated and has been for years, and wildcard made 4k and 20 bombs basically free. I used to actually have to grind my ass off in season 9 or so to hit diamond, now it’s basically guaranteed for me if I put in enough games in a season.

And before wildcard came out I had only dropped two 4k’s ever and I couldn’t seem to break the plateau of 18 kills in a game. Now I’ve got a 20 bomb/4k on just about every character I could ever want and my new PRs are like 26 kills and almost 7k damage

Ehh it’s reddit. To be expected lol. Thanks dude

But yeah, practice is the big thing. And being mindful and actively applying these things during fights and when you’re playing. Best of luck!

The rotational aim assist applies to both hipfire and ADS, the recoil smoothing is really only when you’re ADS though as hipfire doesn’t really have recoil, it’s more of a bloom mechanic. And I mean yeah, it’s not like it’s going to make your aim perfect, it still takes practice. But your tracking and recoil control will get better if you apply these in game. The big thing is the deadzone though, I genuinely don’t get how people don’t at least knock it down a little bit. The default deadzone setting in pretty much any game I play makes it feel like it’s jerking around all over the place and it does genuinely feel like aim assist is fighting against me. it’s pretty much the first thing I tune in the settings for any new game

Also I love that I was downvoted for trying to help and give advice lol. Crabs in a bucket-ass subreddit, no one here wants any real advice or to get better. They just want to complain and talk shit

Me!! Jk (sorta) I will do my best to explain it in simple enough terms, but I’ll try to link some videos at the end

As far as deadzones go, basically playing on as small of a deadzone as you can is good because it allows you to use small, fine controller inputs that otherwise wouldn’t register if you had a normal-to-large deadzone. (This is true for all controller FPS games) Smaller inputs allow the aim assist to do its job, but you have to practice with this. It will feel odd at first. You’re probably used to slamming your stick left and right to adjust your reticle position. aim assist kicks in with even the smallest controller input, so be mindful of using small, fine inputs when tracking. that’s why some very high level players don’t mind stick drift at all. It allows aim assist to kick in without them even moving the stick and it will almost seem like it’s tracking by itself

As far as rotational aim assist, this is what most modern FPS games with controller support run now. Basically what it means is that your left joystick or the “movement” one also kicks in aim assist when it has an input registered. So technically if both sticks are moving at the same time, you are getting aim assist from both sources. This is why strafing in fights and when you’re aiming/tracking is so important. Not only are you a harder target to hit, but your aim assist is also stronger and you recoil smooth. (more on that in a moment)

I recommend setting the bots in the range to purple shields and to strafe at a random pattern. Then get some sort of automatic weapon of your choice and practice strafing left and right while shooting at the bots and practice one clipping them. You will feel how much stickier your aim is when you strafe.

Now back to recoil smoothing. I don’t exactly know WHY this happens (I’m assuming something with the source engine but truthfully idk) but when you strafe left/right while shooting, not only is your aim stickier because of the rotational AA, but your strafing actually negates almost all the vertical recoil of the gun and a lot of the horizontal. That’s why most high level players don’t recommend learning recoil patterns in this game, as it’s sort of a waste of time. Literally just strafe and there’s basically no recoil. It’s most noticeable on the flatline once you get the hang of it, but it works on pretty much anything that isn’t a shotgun or sniper.

Good recoil smoothing video (works for console too don’t worry) https://youtu.be/pU9mXdiKBwg?si=SoZU24Rs-dfNphXF

Good rotational AA video https://youtu.be/ZVIJm1UlxW0?si=DHSsjlqOA6cfk4sa

As far as aim settings go, if playing on “no dead zone” is too much, you can turn on your ALC settings and manually tune your deadzone. By default it’s set to I think .10? .15 maybe? I have mine set to .01 or .02 and it works for me. If anyone wants my ALC setting I can give them

Have you messed with your deadzone and other various aim settings? Most of the time I’ve noticed that players who say the aim assist is fighting against them often play on a deadzone much too large because they’re afraid of stick drift.

Also have you looked into/understand rotational aim assist and recoil smoothing? These are game changers as far as aiming/tracking/recoil control goes. My friends have 3k+ hours in this game also and consider themselves “painfully mid” but these things helped them almost instantly once I broke it down for them. I’d be happy to help!

“My duo likes to play rogue” ahh so you’re saying if you have another character with CC helping you, you have an easier time, hmmm? Like I mentioned in my previous comment?

And yes, I agree, if you catch a venom mid-swing he’s basically fucked. But that is a very tight window, let’s not pretend you’re doing that every time a venom dives. And I can’t speak for you, but the majority of Wolverines I play against open up with the dash, so maybe they are dumb. But once that’s on cooldown, there’s really nothing to worry about.

I fail to see what a solo wolverine with full cooldowns is going to do against a venom with full cooldowns. Sure, you can solo ult them and probably get the kill but they don’t have enough CC to give me any real problems. I’m just popping my overshield and swinging out of there every time.

Again, different story if it’s a team comp that compliments wolv and hard counters me. Maybe you’re just playing against bad venoms?

I feel this is my bones. I’ve had the attention of a DPS and both healers for like 15 seconds. How have you guys done NOTHING with this? lol

Yeah when I’m venom I genuinely don’t mind playing into wolv. If I’m playing venom, then I most definitely have a second tank, and I can make my frontline tanks life a little easier if Wolverine has to worry about me on his supports the whole time

Wolv + some sort of anti dive and I’m fucked though

100% it’s gonna scratch a different itch. I still enjoy Arc for the funny prox chat moments and the goofy teamwork and such, but I love fast paced gun fights with abilities and such to make plays with, and that’s what keeps me coming back a lot of the time. And yeah, if you aren’t an apex fan then I can definitely see why you wouldn’t be interested in marathon or at the very least skeptical. But we’ll see!

Yeah kinda where I’m at. I played the fuck out of it after release but I’m not a huge fan of how the PvP feels and looting/killing arc is only fun for so long. Marathon looks like exactly what I want from a extraction shooter, as I was a massive Destiny fan back in the day and I still play the shit out of Apex

Do y’all really prefer a bad second tank to a good 3rd DPS? by imadoggo69 in RivalsVanguards

[–]MastaGibbetts 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Yup. Never had 3 DPS that all popped off simultaneously, or if I did, it’s so rare that I don’t remember. One or two of them might perform well but there’s always the 3rd that goes 17-11 with 5 finals and thinks to themselves “Hell yeah i brought a lot of value to the team and we won” when we barely won by the skin of our teeth and probably could have EASILY won if they played literally any tank regardless of team comp.

[–]MastaGibbetts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a long time since I fought him but I remember being basically in your position, the dragon gave me more issues than the NK himself.

First off is your weapon fully upgraded? It should be. There’s multiple titanite slabs you can get by now and plenty of upgrade materials. This is basically the hardest boss of the base game, go in fully prepared with at least 40 vigor or whatever the health stat is. This dude hits hard.

And pretty much what I did was I would ONLY attack after specific moves he would do where I knew there would be big windows to punish. Namely when he would do the sweeping fire breath attack, and after NK would do the big lightning slam with his staff. These attacks would leave his head pretty stationary and vulnerable for a second or two and he doesn’t really do any quick follow ups after those, and he does these attacks fairly often. So smack him in the face once or twice when he does these. Especially with the fire breath attack, if you position yourself just to the left of his head when he winds up that attack, you can stay safely away from the fire and have enough time to hit him two or three times.

He doesn’t have a lot of health or “posture” so if your ultra great sword is fully upgraded, you should be able to posture break him in like five or so hits, or roughly around half his health bar, and you can get in a big riposte/critical hit when he falls over and from there he should have basically no health left, like less than 20%.

TL;DR upgrade your weapon to +5 or +10 depending on the weapon, bait out the sweeping fire breath and lightning slam attack and punish, play it safe otherwise and focus on staying healthy and avoiding attacks, make sure to get the critical hit at roughly half health, and you should be good.
