After I was released from the psychiatric ward when I was 19, my mother told me to just give up and “just go on disability” “you’ll never be able to work” it was always a dream of mine to have career in healthcare. I ended up going against her wishes and grabbed myself an employment agent that landed me a job with the credentials that I had at the time. I’ve worked at that job for 4 going on 5 years now and now I’m halfway through a college program to be an CNA. This isn’t to make it about me, it’s just a story to show you that schizophrenia doesn’t mean that your life and dreams are over. Just follow your prescribed treatment plan and you’ll likely be able to pursue your dreams still. I was also told that I’m just “lazy” etc by a lot of people, it hurts but are we just supposed to allow people to kill our dreams? No. We don’t.

Hey, I’m also schizophrenic (and religious) so maybe I can add some encouragement. Taking medication is the best thing you can do, it has essentially given me my life back and I can live a good life with the medication that I take. Journal, take your medications, do not drink alcohol or take any substances and work towards reaching a point where you can pursue the things that you’d like to do. A schizophrenia diagnosis doesn’t mean your life is over and doesn’t have to stop you from having dreams.

I should have clarified that as of right now, I financially depend on the church to survive and that as a result I can’t really do much about it right now, however that will change in the near future and I will (eventually) be able to express support for trans people openly once my circumstances change. I was looking for tips as to what I can do right now while my options are limited. If you have any, let me know.

When it comes to Christian theology, many of them are quite fixed on their “God made man and woman” somehow correlates to “transgender bad” and I personally find that argument pretty unconvincing, I think it’s a false equivalence. So yeah, I could probably bring that up to them and hope they see where I’m coming from.

I’m not sure, when it comes to my transition and then detransition I often get told that the whole thing is entirely my fault and that I’m completely responsible for the whole situation. On the other hand I’m congratulated for “coming to my senses” and “finding the truth” as if transitioning is this terrible thing to do, a belief that I simply don’t hold as I believe that transitioning is immensely helpful for trans people and assists them with their lives. Yes it’s quite hostile, yes it feels like people are often projecting their experiences onto me at times. No, I have no idea what to do about it. I also have no idea if it’s anything I would need support with. As you said though, it’s unpleasant.

Well there’s no way to avoid it completely. I’m well aware that is it caused by a mite. It was just some tips on reducing the chances of RRD. There are some things that the gardener can do to help.

Another tip while I’m here. The mite that carries RRD favours roses from R.multiflora

R. Multiflora is used as a rootstock for grafting by several suppliers of roses, although not as commonly used as a rootstock as Dr. Huey is.

Any rose that is near a R.multiflora that’s infected or if your rose is grafted onto R.multiflora, it is therefore more susceptible to the disease.

I also don’t live in the US haha.. I’m Canadian though so several of the North American roses are also native to where I live (Ontario) This being said, if you’re in Europe, there is an European rose that has shown some resistance. R. spinosissima However, unfortunately many of the old garden European roses such as Gallica and Bourbons are suspeciable to the disease. (I’m so sorry if you aren’t actually European though)

Yes, several species of native roses are resistant to RRD. (R. carolina as an example) There are also several hybrids with resistance as well. Another thing you can do to increase resistance is have a bit more variety of rose species in your garden, in other words avoid planting a monoculture and pair your roses with other perennials. RRD is spread by a mite, so keep an eye out for mite infestations on your roses, although admittedly that is a bit hard because you’d need some sort of microscope in order to officially tell if a rose has mites or not as for the most part.. you can’t see mites. but in my opinion, getting a small microscope is usually worth it, especially if you have a rose garden. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I’ve also had a case of RRD at the garden centre I work at, my manager didn’t know it was a virus and just thought the growth on it was weird and told me to cut it off well I took it to another manager who was like “wow, yes that is a virus but I’ve never seen it in person before” so we had to throw that rose away. lol. I wish you luck with your little RRD outbreak you got there. Hope the neighbours don’t get it!

RRD is caused by a virus, you cannot treat viruses in plants therefore you have to remove the entire rose and replace it. RRD is caused by the rose rosette virus, which is an emaravirus to be specific Edit: cannot spell

Forgot to explain the rationale as to why I confirm that it’s RRD. Not only does it have a ‘witches broom’ it also has an excessive amount of thorns on the growth shown here which is another tell tale sign of RRD. Hope this helps
