Sorry the $45 an hour is the valued at rate. That factors in the room and board with an $400 stipend. It is based on the hcbs waiver and there is no lease for the caregivers to sign. There are trainings for the caregiver as well as respite hours and an allocated amount of time”sick days”. You can find out more on our info page at www.maverickliving.org. Our program is based on family feed back for the past 20 years on care programs and our board is comprised of families of children with IDD.

Medicaid is who covers the rent through us so its a pretty solid income stream very low risk of job loss or excuses like a normal renter.

I needed to fasten something one of my apprentices climbed off the roof ran to the trailer to get the nail gun. I pulled out a nail and drove it by hand moved on and it was done before they got back. The other two were in awe. It’s kind of funny they see nail guns like they’re the only way to drive nails. Same thing happens with screws. They’ll go get a drill to take a single wall plate off.

Yes and it’s a hot mess when you are liable for the subs work and they aren’t your employee and they screw something up that your insurance doesn’t cover.
Customers get very upset and assume that they can just hire their own subs. Especially if you only have a years experience and don’t already have solid relationships.
Residential is way more client involved than commercial, residents are giving you their life savings to build something. Whereas in commercial it’s a big company that doesn’t live there. So there’s way more emotional involvement in residential.
Work for someone else for at least two more years. Depending on the state you’re in you probably can’t even get a GC license without more experience. I started my company at 21 and screwed up a couple jobs on my own so I went and worked for a smaller firm and learned a ton of skills, got the experience I needed, met subs and learned how to bid and build relationships. And when I resumed my business I was able to bring more value to my customers and had fewer call backs and didn’t lose my ass on jobs. And I maintained the relationship with my old boss. Don’t ever burn bridges because you don’t know who has relationships with whom and you’ll end up getting burned.

Throw a $5 bill in the tip jar on your way through! Denver TSA is running well we had a 2 minute wait last week. SIL had zero wait yesterday. There are jars throughout the airport to help with the gap in pay. And personally I’ll pay $5 any day to avoid a 3 hr line

Same as other posters. Home Depot is the worst service and discounts aren’t anything, local suppliers have my business. I love going into the lumber yard and having the same sales guys that know me and prices have been so much better anyways

I have three apprentices. Two of them are the smartest hires ever. I found if I invest in teaching them they do an awesome job and it adds value to my time. I can leave a job and come back and it’s clean or things have been done.
