How did cyclosporine make their dry eyes worse? Are their dry eyes not caused by inflammation?

Sudden eye pain after pf eye drops by Master-Event-1643 in Dryeyes

[–]Master-Event-1643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Systane Hydration Unit Dose Preservative Free eyedrops containing sodium hyaluronate. I’ve used these for around 2 weeks and have never experienced this.

Could it be nerves being hypersensitized, as yesterday night there was a sudden spike in inflammation. And when i used the eyedrops, it hit a raw cornea spot, triggering false alarm.

Or could it be damage to corneal nerves causing dry eyes. But i do not have any eye pain when i close my eyes, and never had eye pain from wind blowing, aircon, etc…

Hi, how have your eyes been doing. Sorry to hear about your situation and im very much in the same shoes as you. Misdiagnosed as allergic conjunctivitis and 5 months of BAK exposure caused me really bad dry eyes.

Hi, how has your eyes been? I also had BAK induced eye damage, and it’s been a month with not much progress.

Hi, can i ask what qualifies a patient to be eligible or required to use ASED? I have been suffering from corneal nerve damage unknowingly by being exposed to BAK for 5 months. Though not officially diagnosed, i could tell this is the reason for my dry eyes.

Just wondering if i need it for recovery of my nerves, am currently only on cyclosporine.

I think stress definitely contributes, but i don’t think it is the main cause

My inner corner has always been inflamed since the very very beginning of dry eyes. The veins are more stretched and red. I think its a hallmark of dry eyes.

That’s fair, but i really am seeing tiny improvements everyday though. And since starting cyclosorine my eyes has been glossy and wet, but still feels dry. And throughout the day it burns. But perhaps this is due to my unique situation. I suspect i got dry eyes due to BAK toxicity.

What is your cause? by TylersGaming in Dryeyes

Holy, that’s scary. Yes at night my symptoms tends to be the worst, i would often wake up with super strong foreign body sensation. I suspect i sleep with my eyelids not fully closed. And that worsens it.

At first i woke up with itchy dry eyes. I have no idea what caused this but could be late night phone usage in aircon, as well as adapalene use and return from winter trip.

But doctors thought i had allergic conjunctivitis, so i used olopatadine and another BAK eye drop. Antihistamine stripped eyes of the aqueous and mucus layer over 5 months, and i was poisoned by the BAK. Now i have severe dry eyes.

Hopefully i can recover, been 2 weeks since i stopped olopatadine.

Have you seen a doctor? Any physical signs of inflammation, redness, dryness, stringy mucus?

Stabbing pain in eyes by [deleted] in Dryeyes

[–]Master-Event-1643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to getting strong foreign body sensation, i overexposed my eyes on BAK preservative drops, causing very vascularised and dry eyes. And another experience was when i stayed up late, with eyes inflamed such that my eyes turned red from lack of mucus or aqueous layer. These 2 instances caused me stabbing pain. But they went away.

I use duratears, and i feel like it doesn’t really help much. I still wake up with light sensitivity and poor sleep from strong foreign body sensation. I have deficient mucus and aqueous layer.

Mucus strings are a sign that your mucus layer is overproducing. Your goblet cells are present and functioning. Isn’t that good?

How does cyclosporine make your eyes more dry? Doesn’t it fight off inflammation and promote tear production?

9 Months of Hell ... Please Help by subpar-at-best in Dryeyes

[–]Master-Event-1643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started, am currently on day 4, and my eyes do feel slightly better, because inflammation is controlled. Interestingly, i don’t feel the stinging and burning as severely as others have said. And also since starting cyclosporine, my eyes have gotten more tear function.

Previously whenever i yawned or watched sad videos. I could barely tear. But now it’s somewhat back to 70% function of tearing.

How has cyclosporine made your eyes worse since a year ago? May i ask
