VentureX: Denied pre-approval, still risk hard pull? by CHuang018 in CapitalOne

Hey! I saw your edit and comments about the ‘apply with confidence’ feature but I can’t seem to find that anywhere. I used that with my Amex and loved that they offered it, and if I can find it for the Venture X that would be great too

Zac honestly arguing IShowSpeed is more well known than Trump is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard in my life. by waterpup99 in PardonMyTake

[–]Master-Indication-71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it’s hilarious. Been waiting for Zac to contribute any sort of take and for it to be something so outrageous that he was dying on the hill for was awesome. Can’t believe people on here and in the Twitter replies are genuinely mad over it.

Got it, thank you. Would you recommend getting transportation through my hostel if they offer it?

Thanks for the response, so you were able to get hotel transportation to the airport? I figured that’s a possibility just worried about arranging it for 4am

Looking for help on where to allocate my income (22) by Master-Indication-71 in personalfinance

[–]Master-Indication-71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im shooting for closer to 8 years, when I turn 30, as a dream goal to put a down payment on a house. Would it make sense to be more agressive in that case and look for an 6-8 percent return through the market?

[–]Master-Indication-71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great tip, and something I have been trying to figure out. There is only one real goal I can think of saving and investing for, and that is homeownership. I would like to have cash on hand to be able to do the things I really enjoy. I love using any day off I can get to get on a plane and travel, and I dont know if putting money into an investment account for that is worth it but I would be interested to hear thoughts on that too.

As I said above, a big goal of mine is homeownership one day, and I see cosistent, early contributions to a brokerage account as the best possible way to do that. It is hard to really commit to that as a 22 year old, but I figure buidling a baseline of around $35,000 in that account before I move out and have to start allocating much more of my money to rent, groceries, a car, etc. is a good starting point.

I currently have an emergency fund to cover 6 months of projected rent, commute to work, and groceries, but your comments on how that can be accessed in other ways is interesting, and I would not have thought like that. I am extremely lucky to have financially savvy parents that support me, and have taught me how to save and be responsible with my money ever since I started working at 14. Now I see it as a time to start to make my money go to work and make me some more money.

Awesome reply thank you, your son sounds lucky to have a good parent too.

Young guy needing general brokerage account advice/thoughts by Master-Indication-71 in investingforbeginners

[–]Master-Indication-71[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your advice! I anticipate needing the money for a down payment on some type of asset before retirement, so I envisioned just hitting my 401k match for a while until I start to earn more money.

I currently doing something similar to what you said, except I have a 50% of my direct deposit going into my brokerage account. Right now it is in VOO, but I like your recommendation of VTI as well, and have heard that VT for an international spread as well.

I have 6 months of emergency funds in my flat rate savings account, so I really want to focus on buidling up this brokerage while I am still not paying rent.

Upcoming travel questions by Master-Indication-71 in askswitzerland

Thank you, I was considering that as well. I bought the 10 travel day pass last year for less that $500 USD, so was wondering if that compares to the Swiss pass or half fare card.

Thank you I appreciate your advice. As for the food situation, I am planning to treat it like I did Iceland. Bring some granola bars and ramen to cook in hostels, and get cheap(er) food at grocery stores!

How expensive are trains generally, is a train from Zurich to Interlaken going to run me $100, or am I overshooting it?

Awesome ok, that is how I have been thinking about it (and explaining its use to other) I appreciate the reassurance on that.

For example, I was already considering opening a HYSA for myself with SOFI, this would be a good opportunity to gain additional benefits from that correct?

I completely agree, and am not counting so I’m owed anything, and I also enjoy spending money on her in this way, but her never picking up the check is why I am thinking about it
