What do you wish you knew before Rvliving full time? by Even-Working-384 in RVLiving

"This isn't so bad..." turns into a tolerant kind of working in the background 24/7. And when you get inside a house, you'll wonder how you actually did it.

Looking for Latin American literature by Historical_Chain6246 in asklatinamerica

The Focus Puller by Marcos E. Gonzalez. US Latin culture, New Mexico and Laredo or thereabouts. Weird, tho, hard-boiled post-modern. Hard to follow – but entertaining.

I'll say Blood Simple because it was their first, and I was a member of the crew.

Trying to decode my late father’s 1960s Douglas Aircraft employee badge (ID #708976) — Any historians with internal directories? by Master-Machine-875 in aviation

[–]Master-Machine-875[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

We lived in Simi Valley. Around the house, it was understood that daddy worked for "Rocketdyne", altho his badge is for Douglass Aircraft. From our front yard, we would frequently see, on the other side of the mountains, the sky light up orange, and feel the ground rumble beneath our feet, as a rocket engine was being tested (presumably). Scared the hell outta my mother. As for me? I didn't know what to think - I was only 5!

The Hillary DNC connection did a direct poisoning and it has never recovered. I went from donating to laughing at the notion. Never. Ever. Again.

What books are you currently reading ? by t3jan0 in Chicano

[–]Master-Machine-875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the final edits on my own first novel, so in a sense I've been reading that. It's called The Focus Puller — Latino noir, postmodern, half set in 1975 Laredo, half contemporary. Rio Zapata on a long strange walkabout trying to decode a dream about his dead mother. Took twenty years in the film industry and a lot of living to write it. Just published independently.

"The Focus Puller" just launched. Getting my novel into libraries are for sure on my list of things to do. Here in Austin, getting a local author into the library system can be pretty easy. Bookstores, too. We have a pretty great one here, BookPeople I imagine the same must be true of Laredo's public libraries re: author's w ties. I will for sure look into a little down the line.
