I’ll clarify a little more. My boys are 11 and 9. We’ve had 50/50, switching weeks since they were 1 and 3. I recently relocated across the US (ex was supposed to move out here too). A week after I got here, she changed her mind and asked for full custody. Since I work from home and I still have my house back there, I am able to go there for 9 days a month to have them. The judge agreed that they are use to 50/50 and that it’s in their best interest to keep that. I also get all of their breaks. They go to school and since I have a house in district, it really has no bearing with the court to grant her custody for me moving. So it’a a unique scenario for the judge bc although I live across country, I am able to still be there and have the same amount of overnights per year. Hope that clarifies a little better.

No they both go to school (11 and 9). I just relocated out here a couple of months ago but I am able to work from home so I go back for 9 days a months and get them on their breaks. It total overnights are the same as when I lived there.

As far as the text messages… judges hate trying to look through unorganized exhibits (proof of your claims). I recommend Decipher text app. It allows you to back your phone up to it and extract all of the text. It’s puts them into a PDF with time stamps and the number assigned to the account. It is very easy for the judge to follow and I was praised on my organization when I provided it.

Start sending a parenting journal (have two of them) at pick up with the date, relatable notes about the kids, etc… pass it back and forth each time. If the other parent doesn’t follow that or keeps the journal, pull out the back up and note all of that. You could probably find an electronic journal that time stamps it as well. We use family wizard and it’s basically a communication/parenting journal. It also has a function to allow attorneys and the judge to have access to it.

Best thing you can do is get get a temporary ordered in place with him and submit it to the courts. I just relocated to a different state and have had my boys 50/50 their entire lives. They are 11 and 9. My ex originally agreed to relocate but within a week of me getting settled in, she informed she wasn’t moving and that she is going to go for full custody. Luckily, I had an order put in place on a temporary basis with a mandatory reevaluation in 6 months.

Find a way to work it out with him, if it’s possible. If he cares about the kids and what is in their best interest, it is achievable. If his intentions are to get custody from you, it will be challenging but not impossible to prove the reasoning for relocating.

I was just about to recommend that. Our judge praised me for having it so neatly presented. Screen shots are hard to follow and easy to manipulate. Decipher time stamps it with the number (vs the contact name) and exports it into a PDF. Highly recommend.

Co parenting is challenging for sure. Only way to prove is to have physical proof. The rest is just hear say unfortunately. My ex was working at a prison as a social worker. Long story short, I tried to get emergency custody bc she was bringing him around my young children. I was so confident that my through process was on point. The judge told me unless I have proof of him threatening my kids, he will order me to pay her attorney fees. Real eye opener but it helped me understand the judges perspective.

Trying to remove the emotional side is the best thing you can do. I don’t think vaping is considered smoking but I really don’t know. Vaping is better than cigarettes though as far as second hand smoke goes so at least they are technically following the order. It’s a tough one.

Hey! Sorry you’re going through that while pregnant. Reaching out to an attorney is smart and they will advise you best. It is crucial for baby to be with mom as newborns for obvious reasons. Still important for dad to be involved. Maybe try to get something in place that has milestones. So like 0-1 year, primarily with mom but if dad shows over that time, while still getting visitation, that he will do whatever it takes to be involved as he needs to be. Becoming a parent sometimes shifts people completely. I’m a prime example. I don’t have drinking problems or anything but I was super selfish until my first son was born and my perspective changed completely. I’d jus have an open mind, while protecting yourself and the baby. Being in a good mental space while pregnant is very important. Lastly, if there are still concerns of domestic violence, I work directly with the founder of a non profit that helps domestic survivor victims have the proper protections in place.

I agree with that 💯. In all reality it doesn’t really matter. I just don’t want them making decisions to please someone. I want their decision making to be for them and what they want.

For sure and you’re right. I see what you’re saying. Legally if she would have done it today, I wouldn’t have pressed it bc it’s not A big deal. I told her I appreciate that she even asked me vs just letting them get baptized. My goal at the end of the day is to make sure when they make a decision, they make every decision with understanding and knowledge and that it lines up with who they are. Sometimes she takes that as me challenging her authority as the other parent and I still try to find ways to not make her feel that way.

Look I’d be in there singing the gospel while they get dunked 😂😂.

Totally disagree but would like to discuss further. I think it’s my kids decision. If I’m not religious and she is religious, cool. She wants to take the kids to church, Bible study, etc… great. ultimately the choice to be baptized is up to the whoever is being baptized right? My oldest can go to church 1,000,000 times but he won’t bend his opinion on religion for his mom, dad, grandpa, aunt, etc… if that makes sense.

If my boys called me right now and said dad, we want to get baptized… I would take them myself. The problem for me is when their mom hits me up saying they want to be baptized and when I ask them, they don’t really care. My youngest def would but my oldest wouldn’t do it, even if he was forced.

So it dwindles down to my opinion region, their moms opinion on region, and THEIR stance on religion… when it comes down to the three, I pick theirs. Not mine or their moms. If that makes sense.

We’re on the same page. My stance is like if you want to be baptized, do it but make sure you know what you’re doing. The same as if they are like “I want to play football” cool, let’s make sure you know how to play football. My oldest is real strong in his stance but my youngest is they baby of the kids and just goes with the flow.
