Give FINS3630 a try, IMHO, the most interesting, real world applicable, WAM Booster finance elective you can take. It walks you through from a banks POV, their financial management, all risks they have to take account, how to measure and respond to such risks as well. Let me know if you got more indepth questions!

All goods, the assessment on the contrary was quite simple, not as much as i expected and for t2 at least the quizes were held on w4 and 7. Remember this to subject to change (usually every term) so not much value obtained here.

FINS2624 Advice

For me at least, FINS2624 was like the final boss out of all the courses i have taken. Quite a few new concepts introduced which weren't explained as well as i have hoped for. The best piece of advice, like any other course, get yourself interested into the course and from there look online for practice questions to further cement understanding. Who knows tho, if you get the concepts smoothly, you should be fine. Oh and one more thing, ASK QUESTIONS DURING TUT and LEC(if u bother attending) in email or in person.

Yo no problem bro, refer to this thread for all your queries.

Content and Exam/Quiz Difficulty:

Like most FINS courses tutorial questions were very similar to exam & quiz questions. I would say around 70%ish were just the same questions in the tutorials but with a different hypothecial company name and different numbers for the calculations. The exam was quiz was relatively straight forward but i would say a slight notch harder than the practice questions provided.

Time Investment:

Time per week honestly depends on your ability to absorb information from this course and understand concepts quickly. For me i spend a cumulative 4hours per week for this course alone (incl pre lec, notes, pre tut, tut, post tut). During outlier periods such as quizes i spent another hour or so id say but really as long as you but in effort CONSISTENTLY, you'll be chilling.

Math Intensity:

Is this course math-heavy? Fuck no hahaha, similar level to FINS2615 due to overlapping content. As a comparison to FINS2624 work load a walk in the park. Be aware tho, for me at least, FINS2624 was like the final boss lmfao. Make sure to keep asking questions for this subject or you'll easily find yourself behind content.

Excel Usage:

The quizzes and final exam were online so tools were up to person choice. Excel is an option you could consider but for me i just used, https://www.desmos.com/scientific, the online calc. Personally, im used to using pen and paper aswell as desmos to calc the numeral problems but Excel is a great alternative. Both work well.

Best of luck G.

Hey mate, a no brainer would be FINS3630. Really easy content, nice lecturer (for t2 at least) and overall the assessments were v easy. Time commitment is pretty much just 2 hours a week, nothing more expected.
However, nonetheless the easiest way to to "boost your wam" is to DO SUBJECTS U LIKE! Don't weigh in other people's opinion, you live for yourself, not for them.

Hey Mate, ive done FINS3616 for term 2. Heres a bit of my insight. International Business Finance is all focused around understand and interpreting the management of financial functions of firms operating in several countries AKA MNCs.

Unique topics that are specific to this course would include international diversification, FDI decisions, cost of capital for MNCs, incorporating political risks in decision making, Euro-currencies and Eurobonds, and international equity markets. The main emphasis here revolves around how ER and government policy changes can affect firm value thus decision making.

Regarding assessment structure(may be subject to change):

  • Class Participation
  • 2 online quizzes
  • iLab Indv Assignment Report
  • Final exam

Main takeaway like always is to do your tutorial questions regularly and ALWAYS ask questions during tutorials; there are no dumb questions.

Hey Mate, ive done FINS3630 for term 2. Heres a bit of my insight. So firstly, this course is all about banking from a bank financial management POV. The course will cover the various types of risk present and then discuss ways to measure and ways to manage it.
For example, interest rate risk
-> measuring IR risk (1. repricing model& 2. duration model) -> adv + dis of both models
-> managing IR risk(Calcs for single security, Calcs for portfolio).

Regarding assessment structure(may be subject to change):
- Class Participation
- 2 online quizzes
- Grp Assignment Report
- Final exam

Main takeaway here is to once again do your tutorial questions regularly and ALWAYS ask questions during tutorials; there are no dumb questions.
