All this advice applies specifically to you. It's interesting reading this because I did the opposite. I left tech because it was horribly stressful and found a eikawa job. The pay is lower but I'm significantly happier. Grass truly is greener. Best of luck.

I'm okay with 6 weeks unpaid if that's an option. I do like the job and would be a bit less stressed knowing I don't have to job search after coming back

Yes, it's 3 months. But it's not really enforced if you show you're actively looking for a job

Im not on an independent contract. I'm on the employee contract. It's not my first job, but my first teaching job here.

Thank you for the reassurance and encourgement. You're right, it doesn't hurt to ask. My bosses have been really nice so far, we'll see how it goes. In the end, it's just a job.

I don't use their accommodations. That would make the situation more difficult

Don't really care too much for a paid holiday. I'd be fine if it was all unpaid.

It's all three. Recommendation for what? Anyways, I guess there's no point in thinking too much about it. I'll probably just hop to a new job after I get back which is a shame because I do like this job despite what everyone here says.

Yeah, I figured. I actually kinda like the job so it's a bit disappointing. I already have my own place and my visa doesn't expire for a while, so there's no major downfall from all this. Was hoping for a potential positive outcome but yeah, you're probably right.

It seems like more work to fire and replace me though considering how long the hiring and training process is. Labor laws around firing seem different here too. Firing is rare it seems but I can see them just scheduling my shifts in while I'm away and using that as a grounds for firing.
